Oak Drive in Oakvale, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at Harmony House in
Lerona. Born June 12, 1923 in Oakvale, she was the daughter
of the late Ollie and Ida Kidwell Akers. She was a homemaker and a member of
the Johnston's Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton. Mrs. Broyles loved her
church and was a faithful member and attended church until recently when her
health curtailed her activities. She was a lifelong resident of the Oakvale
area and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her husband, Junior Broyles of
Oakvale; two daughters, Patsy Harvey and husband Jack of Lindside, and Sandra
Lewis of Princeton; one son, Mark Broyles and wife Eugenia of Princeton;
seven grandchildren, Jill Ballard and husband Mick of Peterstown, April
Harvey and Wendy Cantrell and husband Jonathan all of Christiansburg, Va.,
Jessica Machnic and husband Troy of Princeton, Clinton Lewis and wife Tiffany
of Hodgenville, Ky., and Jared Broyles and Travis Broyles both of Princeton;
and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.,
Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service
in Oakvale with Pastor John King officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m.
until 8:00 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the

October 22, - There were two funerals at Elgood church Wednesday afternoon. General Akers, 59,
an aged resident, succumbed to heart disease Monday evening, after a
lingering illness. He moved to this community about 40 years ago, from Floyd
County, Virginia. He brought with him his young bride, Virginia Dobbins, who
preceded him to the grave by several years. At the time of his death Mr.
Akers was making his home with his sister, Mrs. N. B. Nash, of Elgood. He leaves
five brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Nash, Mrs. Emaline Boothe, of Princeton;
Walter Akers, of Speedway; Joe Akers, of Oakvale; Noah Akers, of Elgood, and
Humphrey and Floyd Akers, of Floyd county. The funeral was conducted by the

(src: Find A Grave) Ralph W. Akers, 90, of the Athens Road, Princeton,
died peacefully in his sleep, early Tuesday morning, December 20, 2011 at his
home. Born March 22, 1921, at Elgood, he was the son of the late Nathan C.
Akers and Luona Beatrice Easter Akers. Ralph was educated in Mercer County;
he was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He was awarded
the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater
Ribbon, the WW II Victory Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Ralph was a
retired machinist for Princeton Machinery on the Athens Road in Princeton
after many years of loyal service. He was a member of Mt. View Community
Church at Elgood and had attended Immanuel Baptist Church on the New Hope
Road in Princeton. He was an avid NASCAR fan and truly loved to grow flowers
and work in his garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife Gertrude Betty Edwards Akers, along with four siblings; Harry Lee
Akers, Faye Blankenship, Ruby Mann and Ona Mae Cox. Those left to cherish his
memory, three sisters, Evelyn Bauguess and Alma Sizemore both of Princeton.
Edna Roberts of Glenwood. Brother in laws, Clarence Edwards and Freddie Cox
both of Princeton. Sister in law, Louise Moses. Special friends, Sammy &
Vickie White and Jackie Bovier. And a host of nieces and nephews who loved
him dearly. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December
22,2011 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the
Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Terry Easter officiating. Burial will
follow in Elgood Cemetery in Elgood. Friends are invited to visit with the
family Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home. Serving as
pallbearers will be Sammy White, Jackie Bovier, Bucky Bauguess, Bobby
Marshall, Roger Roberts and Gary Edwards. Friends wishing to contact the
family will find them at the home Ralph Akers on the Athens Road in

8-27-2009 Richmond City, VA. RICHMOND, Va. Major Lawrence Akers, 99, of
Richmond, Va., formerly of Dublin, Va. died August 27, 2009 in Richmond. Born
January 3, 1910 in Elgood, W.Va. he was the son of the late Noah and Roena
Hylton Akers. Mr. Akers retired from the Allied Chemical Plant in Dublin, Va.
and was a faithful and active member of the Dublin United Methodist
Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Maggie Meadows Akers and was the last surviving member of
his immediate family. Survivors include one daughter with whom he made
his home for the past four years, Anna Sylvadean Hurst and her husband John
S. Hurst, III of Richmond; four grandchildren, John S. Hurst, IV of Richmond,
Va., Deborah K. Krupp of Chester, Va., Larry Akers and his wife Linda of
Draper, Va. and Judy Knicely and her husband Dale of Spotsylvania, Va.; seven
great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on
Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Dublin United Methodist Church. Interment
followed at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Dublin. Information submitted by

Road Dublin, died Saturday evening in the Radford Community Hospital. Born May 17,1908 in Mercer County, W.Va., she was
the daughter of the late James Alfred Meadows and Victoria Annabell Foley
Meadows. She was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Major Lawrence
Akers; one daughter, Mrs. John (Sylvadean) Hurst III, Richmond; one son,
Carlos Whitfield Akers, Dublin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and one sister. Violet Foley, Mullins, W.Va. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the
Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles W. Lockerby officiating.
Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will
be anytime today with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
