Belle Reed Hicks. Sister to my grandfather Sam Reed. d/o Sigler and Susan Salyer Morgan Reed. Was married three times.

Belle Reed Tiffany --By request of the Family I will try to write an obituary of Belle Reed Tiffany, the daughter of Sigler Reed and Susan Morgan Reed, both who preceded her in death.

Sister Belle was born October 19, 1878 and deceased this life April 6, 1967, being 88 years of age, but we feel according to her testimony that she has passed on into the eternal rest of God. Sister Belle married John Shepherd, and unto this marriage three children were born; Virgie Hicks, deceased; two still living Susie Conley of Peebles, Ohio, and Ora Hicks of David, Ky. She then married Edd Tiffany, who also preceded her in death, during 1935. Four sisters preceded Belle in death; Rosie Shepherd, Lula Huffvine, Jennie Kremer , and Millie Lafferty, one sister survives; Sallie Case of Garrett, Ky. Three brothers preceded Belle in death; Ruben Reed, Gold Reed, and Sam Reed. One brother survives: Goble Reed of Hippo, Ky. According to record Belle had 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grand-children and 3 great-great-grandchildren. After the death of her husband Edd Tiffany in 1935, sister Belle spent practically all of her remaining life in the home of her daughter Ora Hicks, wife of Earnest Hicks of David, Ky. Sister Ora although afflicted herself, cared for and looked after her dear mother, Belle with patience and kindness. Sister Belle joined the United Baptist Church approximately 15,years ago, and lived a faithful life on through her remaining stay here on earth. I have known sister Belle for several years and everywhere I saw her she had a friendly handshake, and I can remember her kind soft spoken words. Sister Belle had a stroke during December5, 1966 and had been sick since. I am sure that her relatives, grandchildren, and friends can remember kind words and good advice that sister Belle has given to them and we hope all of her relatives and friends, if they haven't made peace with God already, will consider their ways and turn to God while life and opportunity is before them, that they may meet her in that Eternal Rest, where we feel and believe she is gone to. I know sister Ora and all will miss dear Mother, but God saw reason to call her home where trouble , sorrow and affliction and pain will all fade away. So we might say as the verse I love so dearly says: Safely Home.

Roger Reed Sr., 89, of Hueysville, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born June 8, 1914, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Gold and Sarah Patton Reed. He was a disabled coal miner and a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olvie Vanderpool Reed. Survivors include three sons, Roger Reed Jr. of Hueysville, Jerry Reed of Lexington, and Gary E. Reed of Eastern; a daughter, Priscilla Tussey of Hueysville; two brothers, Kelly Reed of Mousie, and John Reed of Hueysville; two sisters, Virgie Vanderpool of Garrett, and Myrtle Vanderpool of Greenwich, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Reed; two daughters, Pamra Reed and Janice Reed; five brothers, Norman Reed, Gold (Chuck) Reed Jr., Jessie Reed, A.J. Reed, and Claude Reed; three sisters, Clarice Pickett, Gail Dedmon, and Sadie Chadwick; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 22, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Rev. Ondie Wireman and Bill Tussey Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Reed Family Cemetery at Salyers Branch in Hueysville.

Edna Perkins, 84, of Greenwich, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 after a short illness. She was born October 3, 1926 in Floyd, Kentucky to Sam and Laura (Shepherd). Edna moved to the Greenwich area in the mid 1960's. 

She was a member of the Greenwich First Baptist Church. 

Edna is survived by her children, Terry Perkins of Warsaw, Ruth Perkins of Greenwich, Carl Perkins of Milan, Steve Perkins of Willard, Pat Sexton, John Perkins and Mary Poll all of Greenwich; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and siblings, Shirley and Lonie R. both of Willard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon J. Perkins; daughters, Ethel Duff and Shirley Perkins and stepson, Jerry Perkins. 

Visitation will be held Friday, July 22nd from 6-9 p.m. at the Greenwich First Baptist Church, 96 Townsend Street, Greenwich where services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven.

She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Hippo, for 37 years. w/o Goble Reed, Survivors include three sons, Goble Reed Jr. of Boaz, Alabama, Carl Reed of Hippo, Jimmy Reed of Prestonsburg; five daughters, Thelma Stephens of Harold, Gertrude Goble, Elva Prater, Edith Maggard, and Carol Sue Prater all of Hippo. Burial will be in the Reed Family Cemetery in Hippo.

Danny R. Reed, 74, of Amherst, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at New Life Hospice Center of Lorain, following a brief illness. Dan was born September 3, 1939 in Wayland, Kentucky, before moving to Lorain. Amherst has been his home since 1977.

Dan graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. Degree in Biology and went on to Central Michigan University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He began his career as the Administrative Director of Laboratories at St. Joseph Hospital for 20 years. After that, Dan worked for the Lorain County Health Department as a sanitation for 14 years.

He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army state side as a laboratory technologist at William Beaumont Army Hospital, El Paso, Texas. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including fishing, hunting, boating, and flying. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church for 32 year where he served in a variety of ministries. In grateful response to the free gift of salvation offered through the gift of God’s Son, Dan could always be found serving in some capacity at whatever church he was attending at the time whether it be as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, usher, song leader, or committee member. He was truly humbled by God’s hand upon his life and took every opportunity to share with those he came in contact that God loved the world so much that He sent His Son to pay the penalty for our sin and that we could join Him in Heaven some day if we only by faith accepted this free gift.

Of all the works given to Dan by God to invest in nothing was more important to him than the roles he fulfilled as husband, father and grandfather. He treasured his time spent growing his sons into godly men and being a mentor to his grandchildren whom he loved very much. He especially loved spending time in his retirement years traveling with the love of his life Nancy, on adventures out west and to Southern states.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Nancy Reed (nee Casper) I; his sons, Daniel B. (Roshanee) Reed of Ashland and Scott A. (Juliet) Reed of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; and his brother, Ralph (Barbara) Reed of Lorain.

Dan was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Cole Reed; and his parents,Virgil and Helen Reed (nee Lyons).

Friends may call Monday, April 28, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Faith Baptist Church, 440 N. Lake St., Amherst. The Rev. Michael Plog and Rev. Michael Weaver will co-officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Ess Ell Reed, 85, of Martin, widower of Corine Smith Reed I, died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, in Prestonsburg.

Born October 25, 1926, at Tram, to the late Andy and Thursa Davis Reed.

He was a retired groundskeeper for Floyd County Board of Education, a U.S. veteran and a member of Faith Bible Church, in Martin.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane Reed, of Morehead, a brother, Clifford Reed, of Charleston, WV., two sisters, Virginia Hopkins, of Prestonsburg, and Patty Hopkins, of Grayson, two grandchildren, Amie Owens and Paige Planck, both of Morehead, and two great-grandchildren, Madison Owens and Colton Owens, both of Morehead.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Bobby Wireman officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Pattie Lee Reed Duncan, 85 of Willis, was called home Thursday, November 15, 2012. She was born March 10, 1927, to the late Homer & Ollie Duncan Reed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Duncan; one sister, Amanda Reed, of Floyd; three brothers, Robert Reed, of Alexandria, Paul Reed and Walter Reed, both of Floyd. She is survived by two sons, Larry Duncan and wife, Linda, of Roanoke, Buster Duncan and friend, Sherry, of Radford; two daughters, Brenda Hurd and husband, Carlos, of Pilot, Sandra Dollar and husband, Delmar, of Bristol Tenn., one sister, Virgie Sutphin, of Floyd, seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Skyline Nursing and Rehab for the care Mrs. Duncan received.
Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment to follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Walter Arnold Reed, 76, of Floyd, passed away on Friday February 24, 2006, giving up his 14 year battle with thyroid cancer and when the Lord called, "Come on home", he answered his call. He put aside his fiddle and bow along with the other instruments he so enjoyed, to be passed on to his children to carry on our musical heritage. His loving care and support of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson was above measure. His love and care for his pets and all animals gave him great comfort and study of wildlife was also favorite tasks in his everyday life. He has passed on his Christian love for others, his musical talents and love for life and family and friends. Music was a driving force in his life and his family. It was enjoyment and fun, but also praise through the many wonderful songs of love. It was therapy for us and others who were musician friends. The ones we played for in the nursing homes always were so appreciative and loving. A legacy of love, caring, music, giving and wonderful memories sustain us now. A vicious killer crept in our lives, but he fought a good fight with the help of so many others. Now with aching hearts, this agonizing battle is finished, but we will go on knowing everything is in God's hands and in his time. His care is now committed to his loving Lord, where he awaits us to follow. God gave us so much for which we all are so thankful. We want to thank so many who have helped us through this. There are so many friends, family, healthcare professionals, and many others much too numerous to name. They are all so precious to us and know who they are.

Walter was born on Jan 18, 1930 to Homer and Ollie Duncan Reed, who had gone on to await him. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Ava Noel Conner; brothers Robert Reed and Paul Reed; sister Amanda Reed. He is survived by his wife of 51 ½ years, Erma Phillips Reed; his son Phillip Reed and wife Susan of Catawba, Va.; his daughters Sharon and Donnie Cox of Willis, Donna and John Wikstrom of Christiansburg; granddaughters, Amanda and Greg Conner of Willis, Alicia and Jason Slaughter of Radford. A step grandson Chris Wikstrom of Christiansburg. Also, his great-grandson, Luke Conner of Willis; two sisters, Pattie and Edsel Duncan and Virgie Sutphin all of Floyd; many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle very much, and will miss him, also. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday February 27, 2006 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating with military service by Floyd VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. This tribute was written by his Son.... Our Father spent his entire life thinking only of how he could help his family and friends. He always put others first, with no regard for himself or his own comfort. He was the most selfless person I have ever known.
