of Floyd, Va., beloved husband, father, grandfather and lifelong Floyd
resident, died Friday, December 26, 2008, in Lewis Gale Hospital. Born in
Christiansburg, Va., he was the son of the late Moyer E. and Myrtle Bower
Agee. Having worked for his father in the Blue Ridge Cafe from an early age
until volunteering for service in the United States Navy, Lester Agee was a
WWII veteran serving from 1942 - 1945, on the battleship USS Indiana. After
running Agee's Store in Floyd with his father from 1946 to 1959, he became
postmaster at Floyd from 1959 to 1983. Lester set an example by being
completely dedicated to his family and his family's farm. He was preceded in
death by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Nester Agee; by brothers, Morris and
Marvin Agee; and his sister, Virginia Agee Burwell. He leaves one son Barry
Agee, of Greenville, S.C.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Agee and
Michael Maslaney, of Floyd, Margaret and Lynn Long, of Hickory, N.C., Janet
and Leon Moran, of Christiansburg, and Lisa and Alan Belcher, of Ararat,
N.C.; seven grandchildren, Aerea and Graham Long, Emily and Ashton Moran, and
Malory, Isaac and Brenna Belcher; sister-in-law, Barbara Agee, of Floyd and
his nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at the Court of Roanoke
(Retirement Center) for providing care during the last year. There will be a
graveside service conducted by the Rev. Roy Turpin at Jacksonville Cemetery,
Floyd, on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at 3 p.m. with military honors by Floyd
V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. The family will receive
visitors on Sunday December 28, 2008, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Maberry Funeral
Home, Floyd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Floyd Rescue Squad.

of Floyd, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2007. He was
born September 26, 1925, son of the late Moyer Edkar Agee and Myrtle Bower
Agee. He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Helms Agee; one sister,
Virginia Agee Burwell; and a brother, Marvin Harless Agee. Morris served
during World War II in the United States Navy as a Signalman First Class. His
twenty five years of banking service was with the Bank of Floyd where he also
held a position on the board of directors. Upon retirement from banking, he
enjoyed a part-time postal carrier route, farming, building and construction
projects along with pine harvesting. He was a long time member, deacon and
Sunday school teacher at the Floyd Baptist Church. He was also a member of
the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Chapter and Gideon's International.
Survivors are his son and spouse, Michael and Debbie Agee, of Roanoke;
daughter, Susan Yazdani, of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Ellen Agee, of
Christiansburg; daughter and spouse, Anita and Glen Altizer, of Riner;
brother, Lester Agee; grandchildren, Abe and Tracey Agee, Natalie and
Jonathon Tidwell, Heidi Yazdani, Kati Agee, Sydney Yazdani, Bryce Altizer and
Hannah Altizer; and great-granddaughter, Caroline Agee. A graveside service
will be held at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, Va., on Wednesday, January 2,
2008, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dave Holladay and the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating.
The family will receive friends at Floyd Baptist Church on Tuesday, January
1, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, or donations may be
made to Floyd Baptist Church or Gideons International. Arrangements by Wood

Agee, 89, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, June 19, 2008. Strickler was a
member of Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg and served two years
in the United States Navy. He was the son to the late Everette Early and
Aleene Strickler Agee. He was also preceded in death by his daughter,
Caroline Agee Hauck; grandson, Trenton Strickler Agee; sister, Cecil Agee
Woolwine; and brother, Thomas F. Agee. He is survived by his wife, Illa Wade
Agee; son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Becky Agee; daughter, Peggy
Benedict; stepchildren, Mavis Reed, Barry Shepherd and Teddy Shepherd;
grandchildren, Scott and Trevor Agee, and Melanie Benedict; step
grandchildren, Angie Barton and Michael Krupey, Tyler and Derek Baker, Gina
Stike, Michael Poff, Brian Poff, Eddie and Dwayne Shepherd, Joshua Shepherd,
and Matthew and Sarah Shepherd; step greatgrandchildren, Ashley and Taylor
Chambers, K.G. Barton, Jack Krupey, Natasha Poston, Amber Stike, Kayla Poff,
Jeffrey and Brian Shepherd, Emaline Agee, mother of Peggy, and Caroline and
Everett. He is also survived by his nephews, Wayne Woolwine and Tommy

will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the Horne
Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008,
from the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating.
Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that memorial contributions be made to Main Street Baptist

Bishop and Bertie Agee Lovell; and four brothers, Wilson Agee, Eslie Agee,
John Agee and Lance Agee. She retired after
working as a private duty nurse for 25 years. She was a member of First
Baptist Church in Martinsville and was a member of the church's senior
citizen group. Surviving are two grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were
conducted Monday, December 23, 2002, at Community Funeral Services chapel by
the Rev. Calvin Holdren. Burial was in the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church
cemetery in Meadows of Dan. 2002

native was born Dec. 16, 1888 to Everett Agee and Minerva Sweeney. When
she was only three years old, both of her parents died. She was then raised
by her grandparents, the Agees. Her sister,
Ella, now deceased, was raised by another family about six miles away.
According to information Boothe had told her granddaughter and a friend at
the Skyline Manor Nursing Home, Boothe picked chestnuts, dried apples, and
peaches to use for income for the family during her childhood days.
After her grandparents died, she went to live with her cousin and his wife. Boothe attended the
County Line School until she was about 14 years old. She and her first
husband Elmer Smith lived in Illinois, Ohio and West Virginia during their
marriage. Although a homemaker most of her life, she worked shucking
corn and in canning factories during her stay in Illinois. Her husband
Elmer was killed in a West Virginia coal mining accident. Boothe's second
marriage was to Flenore Strickler. Her last husband, L.
A. Boothe, died in 1976. A friend at the
nursing home said Boothe loved to read, and during Boothe's first marriage,
she told the friend, she and her husband passed the time at night by reading
to each other. Boothe also enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a
member of the Methodist church. Boothe is survived by:
two sons, R. V. (Bobby) Smith of Riner, Clifton Smith of Floyd; a
stepdaughter, Alice Kingrea of Floyd; a stepdaughter-in-law , Elzada Boothe
of Floyd; seven grandchildren, Faith Radford, Nila Spence, both of Floyd,
Betty Tucker of Callaway, Robert C. Smith, Barbara Saul, both of Riner,
Dandra Gay Grim, Debbie Young, both of Christiansburg; twelve
great-grandchildren, Danil Vernon Smith, Robert Anderson Smith, Chris Saul,
Kellie Young, Brandon Young, Amy Ingram, Beth Grim, Aaron Grim, all of
Christiansburg, Rosie Henninger, Roanoke, Johnny Radford, Kristy Bowman, Gary
Spence, all of Floyd; three great great
grandchildren, Holly Henninger of Roanoke, Amber Radford, Kayla Radford, both
of Floyd; five step grandchildren; twelve step great grandchildren; and four
step great-great grandchildren. Funeral services
Wednesday were held at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Barry
Lell officiating. Interment was in the Wilson Cemetery. 1990
