Charlotte County Will of John Hundley Rutledge Submitted by: Linda Lawson 1-23-00 JOHN HUNDLEY RUTLEDGE Will Book 3, Pg. 178 I, John Hundley Rutledge of the County of Charlotte, State of Virginia, being of sound and deposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament, in manner and form as follows: Hereby all wills heretofore made by me. 1st. I will that all my just debts be paid. 2nd. That after my just_____ are paid, I will to my nephew, Willis Henry Rutledge all the estate, both real and personal of which I may die possessed. Will of James Gilliam of Charlotte County - WB 2:50 In the name of God Amen I James Gilliam of the county of Charlotte being of sound mind and memory do make constitute and order in this my last will and testament in manner and form following (to wit) I lend unto my beloved wife Martha Gilliam one third part of my estate both real and personal during her natural life or widowhood then to be equally divided amongst my following sons (to wit) John Gilliam William Gilliam Thomas Gilliam and Harrison Gilliam to them their heirs and assigns forever I give & bequath (sic) to my son Robert Gilliam one hundred acres of my land lying on the Southside of Twitties creek adjoining the lines of Joseph Friend and Edward Keeling to be closed by one strait (sic) line also one negro man by the name of Dennis and also one feather bed which he has now in possession to thim his heirs and assigns forever I give and bequath to my son Allen Gilliam two hundred acres of my land on the South side of Twitties creek adjoining the lines of Godfrey Jones and the estate of Japheth Fowler to be included by one strait line also one negroe boy by the name of George also one feather bed to him his heirs and assignes forever I give and bequath to my daughter Amey Gilliam one negro girl by the name of Ciss one bed and also one horse and saddle to her her heirs and assigns forever when she arrives to the age of twenty years or marriage I give and bequath to the rest of my sons (to wit) Jno Gilliam Wm Gilliam Thos Gilliam and Harrison Gilliam and (sic) equal part of all the rest of my land & slaves and stock of all kind and house hold furniture to them their heirs and assigns forever as they shall arrive to the age of twenty years and my will & desire is that what I have given to by daughter Elizabeth May and my daughter Salley Theweat (sic) which they have in each of their possession they may keep unmolested & lastly I appoint Joseph Friend Wm Theweat & Stephen May Exors of this my last will & Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my and and seal this thirteenth day of October 1792 James Gilliam L S Witnesses his Sherwood + Vaughan George Hundley mark James Johnston At a Court held for Charlotte County the 2d day of June 1794 The last will and testament of James Gilliam decd was presented in Court by Jos Friend Stephn May & Wm Theweat the exors herein named and the same was proved by the oarth of Sherwood Vaughn George Hundley & Jas Johnston the witnesses hereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded & on the motion of the said Stepn May & Wm Theweat who made oath according to law certificate is granted for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form they given security where upon they together with Jos Friend and Thos Chaffin their securities intered (sic) into their bond according to law for that purpose the said Jos Friend having first renounced in open court the burthen (sic) of execution of the said will Truly (recorded?) Elizabeth Pettus (not sister of above - possibly aunt) Harrison Gilliam not known to have married. The three above moved to Tennessee. Harrison died in Rutherford County, TN c. 1808. Thomas (my ancestor) settled in Maury County, TN and had 13 or 14 children. William was in Maury County for several years, but appears to have moved on. In the name of God Amen, I James Loggins of Charlotte County being sick in body but of sound and perfect memory calling to mind the certainty of death and the great uncertainty when it may please God to call me out of this present world and for the better settling of all my worldly affairs do make constitute and desire that this be my last Will and Testament in form and manner followeth, first and principally I give and bequeath my love to God who first gave it me. My Body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and in for all my worldly goods the has been pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath in the manner as followeth
Item. I give to my beloved wife Ann Loggins the use of all my estate both real and personal during of her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage thence I give and bequeath all my land lying the North side of the creek to my son Reuben Loggins and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my land lying the south side of the creek where I now live to my son William Loggins and his hears forever. The main creek to be the dividing line between them.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Dixon Loggins one shilling sterling money.
Item I give to my son Martin Loggins one shilling sterling money.
Item I give to my grandaughter Anne Rutlidge one S--- with all its future increase in leu of my daughter Sarah Rutledge's part.
Item I given and bequeath all the remaining part of my estate not already given, to the ------ of my five children (that is) Anne Loggins, Milly Loggins, Hannah Loggins, and Rheuben and William Loggins to them and their heirs forever. I do hereby appoint my beloved friend Thomas Redman Executor to this my last Will and Testament revoking and amending all other will or Wills, Testament or Testaments by me heretofore made do make or ordain this to be my last. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 17 day of August 1797.

In the name of God Amen, I Michael Gill the twelfth day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety six being of sound memory, calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty when it may please God to call me out of the world and for the better settling of all my worldly affairs do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in form and manner following. First and principally I give and bequeath my soul to God who first gave it me, my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Mitchell Gill all my land to him and his heirs forever
Item I give and bequeath to my son Mitchell Gill one negro woman Lilly and tow negro children Jane and Judith they and their future increase to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Susanna Gill one negro woman Nan and one negro girl Patty and their future increase to her and her heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Tabby Perkinson my feather bed and furniture with all that she has heretofore had of my estate, that much and no more to her and her heirs forever
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally May all the estate she has already received to her and her heirs forever that much and no more
Item Its my will and desire that all the remains part of my estate not already given shall be equally divided between my two children Mitchell Gill and Susanna Gill, appointing my son Mitchell Gill and my friend John Petty my executors to this my last Will and Testament revoking and dis----- all other wills by me heretofore made, do ordain this to be my last will and Testament. This Last Will and Testament of Michael Gill dec. was presented in Court by Mitchell Gill one of the executors therein named and the same was proven by the oath of James Connelly, Jenny Milam and Lucretia Rutledge the witness hereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded on the motion of the said executor who mad oath according to law certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form he giving security. Whereupon he with William Dupree his security entered into and acknowledged their bond according to law for that purpose - reserving liberty to John Petty the other executor to join in the probate thereof when he shall think fit.
