Charlotte County Circuit Court Will Book 2, p. 256.

In the name of God Amen. I George Carter of the County of Charlotte being of
sound mind and memory as usual, do make and ordain the following as my last
will and Testament. When I die I hope through the merit of Christ to obtain
eternal life and Salvation. I direct my Executors hereinafter named to bury
my body decently with respect to my estate with which I have been [?]. My
will and desire is that it may be disposed of in the following manner, viz,
I direct and it is my will and desire that my wife Mary should have and
enjoy during her life one third part of the tract of land whereon I now
live, and also one third part of my personal property of every kind for her
support and maintenance. I give and devise unto my son Richard Carter to him
and his heirs forever, the other two thirds of the tract of land whereon I
now live, and the other two thirds part of it which I have herein before
given to my wife during her life, that also after her death. I give and
devise to my son Richard and his heirs forever and the rest and residue of
my personal estate together with that part of it after my wife's death
whereto I have given to her during her life. I give and bequeath unto my son
Richard and my son in Law Ely Roby and their heirs forever to be equally
divided between them. I appoint my son Richard Carter and Eli Roby my son in
Law Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. As Witness my hand and
seal this twenty seventh day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and three.

This Last will & Testament of George Carter dec'd was presented in Court &
the same was proved by the oath of Clement Read and Coleman Carter two of
the Witnesses hereto subscribed &ordered to be recorded

At a Court held for Charlotte County the 7th day of November 1803.
On the motion of Richard Carter and Eli Roby the executors herein named who
made oath according to Law Certificate is granted them for obtaining a
probate of the said will in due form they giving Security. Whereupon they
with James [?] and Edward Dun their Securities entered into & acknowledged
their bond according to Law for that purpose. Test
