Courier-Times, The (Roxboro, NC) - Wednesday,

The word around Tate Street is that Electro has
died.
Electro — blues guitarist, Air Force veteran, Tate Street denizen, hippie,
a "dose of wildness" —was born Harry Wilton Perkins Jr. in 1947.
He died a week ago Sunday at a Durham hospital. He was 70.
In between was a life well lived.
My time on Tate Street — the commercial strip that runs alongside UNCG —
was very brief and very casual and way back in the mid 1990s when I moved
to town. I didn't know Electro, but I knew of Electro. Everybody did. He
had been around Tate Street a long, long time by that point.
I don't have an Electro story, but lots of others do.
Here's one from 1993 by former N&R columnist Bill Morris on the Great
Mural Controversy. (I remember the mural, which was on Walker Avenue
opposite of New York Pizza. But someone painted over it long ago, and I
can't find a picture of it.)
The late Jim Clark of UNCG called Electro "Tate Street's last hippie."
He mentions Electro (and the mural) in this 2016 story for O. Henry
Magazine on the Tate Street music scene:
"Ah yes, Electro, the Tate Street bluesman who twenty-three years ago
was literally supposed to be the face of Tate Street music and as a result
has become the center of one of Greensboro's longest running urban legends."
Jordan Green at Triad City Beat wrote the definitive profile of Electro a
year ago:
"For at least 30 years, Electro was perhaps Tate Street's most
ubiquitous presence. If his history … seems murky, it's probably because by
his and others' accounts, he was always coming and going, hopping trains in
and out of Greensboro, camping by the tracks or crashing on friends'
couches. Electro's tenure is so long that it's difficult to fix him in a
particular period, and his many acquaintances retain different pieces of
his story."
Green also went to Electro's wake on Sunday at College Hill Sundries.
Here's his report.
Electro's obituary is here. Services will be Dec. 9 in Roxboro, where he
had been living for the past several years.

"Harve" Sutphin
burial. Yes, Harve is buried there. This was
confirmed by a daughter. Harvey Walker Sutphin, born October 1878, died
ca. 1920. His first wife was Orlena Phillips, born 28 Nov. 1880,
died 14 June 1917. It is assumed Orlena is buried here also, one of the
reasons Harvey was taken to Indian Valley from Montgomery County for
burial.
Harvey was the son of James and
Juretta Reynolds Sutphin of Carroll
County, The family was living in Floyd County in 1904/5 when Juretta Sutphin died. I suspect Juretta Reynolds Sutphin is another of the
unmarked graves in this cemetery.
