Bailey, Norman - Urbana Daily Citizen, Thursday, 4
January 2007 Norman Bailey, 75, of Urbana passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday,
Jan 3, 2007 in Community Hospital, Springfield. He was born in Miami County on
Dec. 19, 1931. He was the son of Forrest M. and Ruth (Motter) Bailey of Conover.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of St. Paris and retired in 1994 from
Hobart Brothers, Troy, Ohio after 39 years. Also retired as an honorary member
of the Johnson St. Paris Fire department. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie (Wilkins)
Bailey, and two daughters Kathy Bailey of Urbana and Kristy Fourman; son-in-law,
Bruce Fourman and four grandchildren, Heather, Michal (sic), Holly and Sarah
Fourman of Urbana; a close friend Bruce Lee of Springfield; two step-sisters,
Sharon Christian of St. Paris and Sara Bloedow of Troy. Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Charlene and an
infant son Johnnie Ray. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 6, 2007
in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana with Rev. James VanZile and Rev.
George Riddell IV officiating. Friends and family may call 4 to 8 p.m. Friday,

Paris, OH 43072. Bailey, Pearl Levon – Urbana Daily Citizen, Wednesday, 29
August 2007 Pearl Levon Bailey, 78, of Urbana, passed away Tuesday,
August 28, 2007 in his residence. He was born January 20, 1929 in Rosewood the
son of the late Foster L. & Leota Belle (McIntire) Bailey. Levon was a farmer all of his life. He farmed in Champaign &
Logan Counties. He was the first dairy farmer to milk over 100 cows in Champaign
County. He was a member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau and a 4-H advisor
for several years. Levon brought to Champaign County the Miniature Rex rabbits
from Florida and introduced them to 4-H members. Levon loved the outdoors when he was in good health. He
especially enjoyed coon hunting and fishing. He also was fortunate to spend 18
winters in Florida and made many friends there. He is survived by his wife who he married October 8, 1946,
Violet “Scott” Bailey, his daughter Anita Onnalee (Philips) Evilsizor, his
daughter-in-law, Nancy “Taylor” Bailey all of Urbana, his grandchildren, Scott
(Michelle) Bailey, Sarah (Tim) Longworth, Susan Bailey, Christi (Jake) Haulman &
Noel Evilsizor, 10 great grandchildren, his brothers, Carrol (Mary Lou) Bailey &
Vincent (Marilyn) Bailey, his sister-in-law, Christine Bailey, his foster
sister, Polly Overholser, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives
of several generations. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jerry Bailey
who died, February 2, 2006 & his brother, Merlyn Bailey. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday,
August 31, 2007 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 in the funeral home with the
Rev. Wayne Engle officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, Urbana. Bailey, Vivian Stahr – Urbana Daily Citizen, Thursday, 29
November 2007 Vivian Stahr Bailey, 84, of Urbana, passed away Tuesday,
November 27, 2007 in Green Hills Retirement Community. She was born January 15, 1923 in Lena, Ohio, the daughter of
Charles and Iva (Weatherhead) Davis. Vivian was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church. Vivian loved to cook and bake especially, her noodles,
cookies and peanut butter fudge. She was always willing to make whatever was
needed for any special event. Everyone was always welcomed at her home and she
always had plenty on hand to feed them. Holiday tradition was to get to go to
grandma’s and help bake cookies, candy, peanut butter fudge or make noodles to
prepare for the Holiday season. She enjoyed spending time with her family and
friends or going to see her grandchildren in their activities. Her talents were
greatly appreciated and she will be sadly missed. She is survived by daughters, Marcella (Michael) Malesko,
Chloe (Steve) Kelsey; son, Charles “Butch” (Deborah) Bailey; grandchildren,
Shari (Matt) Rowe, Angie (Yancy) Dunham, Robin (Steve) Murphy, Stephanie (Mike)
Reed, Lesley (Noel) Neeld, Ryan (Lisa) Kelsey, Adam Bailey, Evan Elizabeth
Bailey; great grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan & Seth Reed, Bailey & Gabriel Dillick,
Troy, Brandon & Avery Murphy, Kirby, Garrett & Holden Dunham and Cameron Kelsey;

August 2007 Jason Ralph Bair, III, 48, of St. Paris, died at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, August 17, 2007, at his residence. He was born January 15, 1959 in Urbana, a son of the late
Jason Bair Jr. and Elizabeth Archer Bair of Urbana. Relatives include mother Elizabeth Bair of Urbana; father
Jason Bair Jr. (deceased); son Ty Allen (deceased); daughters Misty Bair of
Huber Heights, OH and Krystal Bair of Conover; step-daughters Jennifer Thompson
of Urbana and Emily Henry of St. Paris; infant brother Donald Bair (deceased);
brother and sister-in-law Ronald (Debi) Bair of St. Paris; sisters KimAnnette
Barnes of Urbana; Sandra Funderburgh (deceased) and Lucinda Current (deceased);
sisters and brothers-in-law Shirley (Mike) Dallas of Talbott, Tenn, Patricia
(Wade) Current of Conover; Janet (Jon) Cain of Urbana and DeAnne (Tim) Armstrong
of Urbana; and grandchildren Zachary and Klloey (sic) of Huber Heights. Mr. Bair was retired from KTH in January 2007 and was a die
maintenance supervisor. He was a 1977 graduate of Graham High School. He married Vicki Ervin on June 29, 1996 in DeGraff and she

08 February 2007 Enona Gene (Dickhart) Baker, 81, of Saint Paris, Ohio passed
away at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 in her residence. She married Howard "Marvin" Baker April 14, 1950 and he preceded her in death
on Feb. 13, 2006. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Steven and
Brenda Baker of Casstown, Timothy and Becky Baker of Crossville, TN., and
daughter and son-in-law: Terry and Richard Mobley of Huber Heights; her
grandchildren: Steven (Amy) Baker, Bob (Cheri) Baker, Jonathan (Faith) Baker all
of Saint Paris, Melody (Michael) Ouzts of N. Carolina. Scott Mobley of Huber
Heights, Benjamin Proffitt of Rapid City, SD; great-grandchildren: Nathan,
Nicholas, and Noah Baker, Amanda, Andrew, Isaac, Mariah and Makayla Baker, Tyler
and Emily Baker, all of Saint Paris and Olivia Ouzts of N. Carolina. Enona Gene
graduated from Piqua High School in 1943, and received an associate's degree
from Indiana Wesleyan. She is a member of the Saint Paris Community Church of
the Nazarene and played the organ for the church for many years. She was also
the church Treasurer for 20 years and sang with "The Singing Grandmothers."
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. ion the St.

2007 Harold W. Baker, 78, of St. Paris died Tuesday, October 9,
2007, in Holiday, Florida. He was born December 22, 1928, to the late Clement and Helen
(Wiant) Baker. He was a farmer, an avid bowler, a vegetable gardener and
loved to hunt mushrooms. Survivors include his loving wife, Joann B. (Pencil) Baker of
57 years, two sons, Dan (Erna) Baker and William Baker, three daughters, Sally
Baker, Kathy (Dow) Smith and Judy (Ted) Judd, 10 grandchildren, Jeanette (Tim)
Fletcher, Todd, Brett Baker, Julie (Andy) Maurice, Nick, Stephanie and Ashlee
Smith, Jim, Kelly Castle, Tiffany (Brad) Hammer, six great-grandchildren, Annie,
Zachary, Mitchell Fletcher, Hailey, Morgan Baker, Payton Maurice, one brother,

Elbert – Urbana Daily Citizen, Thursday, 6 September 2007 John Elbert Baker, 79, of 13240 Shanley Road, Quincy, Ohio,
passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 3 a.m. at his residence. He was born on March 6, 1928, in Shelby County, Ohio, the son
of the late Charles Baker and Ruby Dormire. On March 16, 1947 he married Ruth Ellen Gilfillen and she
survives along with three children, Larry Baker and his wife Jane of
Springfield, Ohio, Mrs. Lindsay( Joylyn) Baker Finch of Galion, Ohio, and Samuel
Baker of Sidney, Ohio. Four grandchildren, Melanie Elaine Baker, Alex Jay Baker,
Elaine Kay Finch and John Louis Finch, also survive. One brother, Luther Baker, preceded him in death in 1966. John was a former member of New Hope Grange. He had a
lifelong love of athletics and sports, also his grandchildren and their
activities, and loved his dogs Bowser and Shadow. Mr. Baker was a retired farmer and a truck driver for U. S.
Expediting. John was a member of Greenview United Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the
Cromes Funeral Home with Pastor John Leighty officiating. Burial will be at
Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Ohio. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at
the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. The family would like to extend
special heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fair Haven and The Dorothy Love

Harry D. BAKER, 57, of Urbana, died at Springfield City hospital Monday night
at 6:45. He had been in failing health for some time and was taken to the
hospital Sunday night for an emergency operation.
He was a brother-in-law to Mrs. Leo URBAN, St. Paris, and is survived by
his wife Anna; two daughters Corrinne and Dorothy, and a son Thomas J. of
Urbana.
Funeral services were conducted this morning (Thursday) at 10:00 o'clock
from an Urbana funeral home.

Mrs. Hettie BAKER, 60 years old, wife of Du BAKER died suddenly at their
home south of Conover Monday morning at 2 o'clock with hear trouble.
Mrs. BAKER was a native of Virginia, her maiden name being GRASS. She has
two sisters and one brother living in that State. Besides these she is survived
by her husband and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Maymie BAKER.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Honey
Creek Church with burial by Bert Richeson, in Casstown Cemetery.

John A. BAKER, 89 year-old retired decorator and a former Christiansburg
resident died Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry
STOKER of Dayton.
Surviving are his widow Margaret, another daughter, Mrs. N. O. OTTENBERGER
of Springfield, and two sisters, Mrs. Sallie BARNHART of Troy and Mrs. Mary
LEFFEL of Springfield rural route.
The body was brought to the Bert Richeson funeral home and will be taken
Sunday noon to the Christiansburg Christian church where it will lie in state
until funeral services at 2;30 P.M. Burial will be in Honey Creek cemetery.
Baker, Kenneth Dale – Urbana
Daily Citizen, Thursday, 27 May 2010 Kenneth Dale Baker, age 82, of Urbana formerly of Terre Haute passed away at
9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in the Mercy McAuley Center. He was born in Champaign County, Ohio on January 10, 1928 the son of the late
Clarence and Lola (Zerkle) Baker. He married Elinor Ann Race on July 27, 1950
and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2002. Five children survive Kenny:
Dale (Joyce) Baker of Urbana, Dean (Teresa) Baker of West Liberty, Beverly
(Eddie) Williams of Terre Haute, Nancy (Tim) Colchin of Terre Haute and Vickie
Grube of Muncie, Indiana. He was a loving grandfather to 5 grandchildren and 4
great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Cecil Baker of
Springfield. In addition to his parents and wife, one grandson, Curtis Dale
Baker and two sisters preceded him in death. Kenny worked as a farmer for all of his life. He was a member of the Terre
Haute United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday at noon in the Atkins-Shively Funeral
Home, 216 South Springfield Street, St. Paris with Pastor Frank Kampel
presiding. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held before the funeral service
from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Association of Clark and
Champaign County, P. O. Box 38125, Urbana, Ohio 43078. Envelopes will be

BAKER -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, 12 Jan 1933
Nancy Regina BAKER, wife of John BAKER, died at her home on East Poplar Street
Wednesday evening at 4:35 o'clock. Mrs. BAKER had been ill only a few days
and her death was the result of heart failure.
Mrs. BAKER was born in St. Paris May 8, 1864, being 68 years of age. She
was the daughter of Lewis and Lydia KESSLER DESH. Her entire life was spent
here, where she was united in marriage to John BAKER.
The husband and the following children survive: Miss Ethel BAKER, at home;
Walter BAKER, Benton Harbor Mich.; Mrs. Mary PRINCE, of Columbus; Herman
BAKER, Ontario Calif., and Albert BAKER, Charlestown, W. Va. One sister,
Mrs. G. W. WALBORN of Urbana, Route 6, is also living.
For many years Mrs. BAKER was a member of the Reformed Church and was active
in the Ladies' Aid Society and other Phases of church work. Mrs. BAKER was
an unusually industrious woman, and was ever devoted to the interests of
her family. Her passing will be lamented by a wide circle of friends.
The funeral services will be conducted from the residence by Rev. H. Edward
Hamme of the Lutheran Church on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment
will take place in Evergreen Cemetery by Bert Richeson, funeral director.
BAKER -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. June 4, 1942
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Congregational
Christian church in Christiansburg for Samuel BAKER , 82, who died Friday
afternoon in University hospital, Columbus, where he had ben a patient for
the past two weeks. Burial was in Newson Chapel cemetery in charge of Bert
Richeson funeral director. Pallbearers were O. M. SHEPARD, Delbert DAVIDSON,
George BROWN, Herman HOLLIS, Asa HARVEY and Earl FURROW.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Grace HUSSEY and a son, Allen BAKER both
living in Dayton.
BAKER -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. 31 January 1936
Mrs. Simon BAKER, 27, popular young mother of Terre Haute, passed away at
the Champaign County Hospital at Urbana at 3 o'clock this morning of burns
suffered yesterday morning at her home when her clothes became ignited as
the result of a mishap while cooking. Both Mr. and Mrs. BAKER were removed
to the hospital for treatment, the mother being more severely burned.
Mrs. BAKER's wounds were inflicted while she was cooking meat on a kerosene
stove. When it boiled over onto the stove burner the flames spread rapidly
throughout the room due to the heavy content of grease, and in her attemp
to extinguish the blaze her clothes became ignited. Every shred of clothing
had been burned from her body when she and her husband were removed from
the burning residence by neighbors. Both were lying on the kitchen floor
amid the flames in a semi-conscious condition when found. Mr. Baker is reported
today has having a fair chance for recovery.
Mrs. BAKER was a member of the "Westville Methodist Church" and was wlll
known throughout this section, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason BAIR
of Westville.
Surviving her are her husband, one son, Homer, 6, and a daughter, Helen,
5, in addition to her parents, two sister, Mrs. Edwin DAVIS, Springfield,
and Miss Ruth BAIR, Urbana, and four brothers, A. J. BAIR, Jason Jr., Marvin
and Raymond.
Funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Westville
Methodist Church, the Rev. Fields of Terre Haute officiating. Rev. Charles
FURROW, Urbana will assist. Interment will be made in the Honey Creek Cemetery
by Frank & Barger, funeral directors.

William D. BAKER died Tuesday at 4:40 a.m. at his home, three miles southeast
of St. Paris on his 79th birthday.
Survivors include his widow, Rose; four daughter, Mrs. Delbert DAVIDSON
Christiansburg; Mrs. Walter WIANT, St. Paris rural route; Mrs. Cletus EVILSIZOR,
Dayton rural route; and Mrs. Sterly ARCHER, Chillicothe; five sons, Clement
and A. J. BAKER, Urbana rural route; Charles, Springfield; Delbert and Maynard,
St. Paris rural route, and two brothers, Jacob, Urbana, and Irvin,
Christiansburg; and a sister, Mrs. Charles PENCE, St. Paris.
The body was brought to the Bert Richeson funeral home where it remained
for funeral services which were held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 p.m.
with Rev. Charles Crammer, pastor of the Dialton Methodist church in charge.
Burial was in Tremont City cemetery.
BALMUT --Urbana Daily Citizen March 30, 2001 BARGER Hela Breuer – Urbana Daily Citizen, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 Hela Barger, 88, died Friday, January 22 in her home. She was born April 23,
1921 in Bremerhaven, Germany, moving to the United States with her family in
1930 at age 8. They soon moved to the Kizer farm near St. Paris where her father was a farm
manager. After graduating from St. Paris High School, Hela returned to Germany
with her family in 1940. Soon after securing a job as an interpreter with the German high command in
Berlin, it became impossible to leave due to the escalating war effort forcing
her to endure World War II in Berlin. At the conclusion of the war she took a position with U. S. Military
Government which she held until returning to the U. S. in 1949. After working
briefly in New York she returned to the St. Paris area marrying Laurel Barger in
1950. From that time forward she completely dedicated herself to the tasks of being
a farm wife and mother with the same efficiency that she practiced in an office
environment. Much of the success of the family farm can be attributed to the dedication,
hard work, love and devotion she gave to her family. In addition to her deep love of family and farm Hela also was an enthusiastic
patron of the arts and loved to travel. She is survived by two sons, Jim (Michelle) Barger of St. Paris and Tim
(Colleen) Barger of Bellbrook, four grandchildren, Teryan Barger of
Mechanicsburg, Jeremy Barger of St. Paris and Sydney and Courtney Barger of
Bellbrook and close friend and caregiver, Gail Gordon. Hela was preceded in death by her father and mother, Theodor and Helena
Breuer and husband Laurel Barger. The family will receive friends 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2010
in the Walter & Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana with funeral
services following at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Michael L. Poole, Jr. officiating.

probably be buried there also. Barger, Nikki Jean - Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, 02 April
2007 Nikki Jean Barger, age 35, of Springfield passed away at
Miami Valley Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile
accident, which occurred on March 30, 2007 in Miami County. She was born
November 2, 1971 in St. Mary's, Ohio, daughter of Keith Elston and Jean (Wilks)
Barger. Nikki is survived by her son Stewart Hicks, age 6, of
Vandalia; her parents Keith and Judy Barger of St. Paris; sisters April Barger
of Christiansburg (daughter of Keith Elston Barger and Sharon Ann Spriggs);
Julie (Ray) Bigelow of St. Mary's; brothers Jeff (Denise) Slife of Kettlersville;
Matt (Julie) Grimes of St. Paris; and Chris (Rikki) Grimes of Springfield.
Special aunts and friends, Cassie (Ed) Spreher of Christiansburg and Lisa (John)
Stewart of Troy, and friend Arthur Schmidt of Sidney also survive. She will be remembered by many other special friends and
family members. Nikki was a 1971 graduate of Graham High School, Saint Paris.
She was a member of Friends of AmVets Post 88 of Troy. Her mother, Jean Gephart; two sisters, Kim (Slife) Chaney and
Kelly Slife; her maternal grandparents, Hilda and Paul Makenbaugh; and paternal
grandparents, Nina Pond and Elston Barger preceded Nikki in death. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at
7 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint
Paris, Ohio with Past or Roger Childres of Friends Fellowship of Urbana
presiding. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 p.m. until the
time of service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at

Henry (Hank) Balmut, 84, of 421 E. Main St., St. Paris, OH, passed peacefully
in his home at 2:40 p.m. Thursday,. March 29, 2001. Henry was born Feb. 12,
1917, in Cleveland, OH, son of Louis and Kathryn Marenczak Balmut. He
enlisted in the U.S.Army Air Corps in March, 1941, and was assigned to the
390th Bomp Group of the Eighth Air Force in May, 1943 as a Master Sergeant,
serving his country during World War II in England until 1945. Mr. Balmut
married the former Margery Zerkle of St. Paris, Aug. 19, 1945, in the St.
Paris First Baptist Church. He was employed at the Directorate of All Weather
Testing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, until his retirement
as Production Controler with the 4950th Test Wing, Aeronautical Systems Division.
Mr. Balmut participated in the 1951 Atomic Tests in Kwajalein Atolls in the
Marshall Islands, the 1956 Hydrogen Bomb Tests in Eniwetok Atoll and numerous
space projects, including Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and many others. From 1962
to 1970 , he participated in tests with NASA in the indoctrination and training
of astronauts in Zero G and the testing of lunar vehicles. He served as Crew
Chief of a modified KC-135 jet tanker which performed as a Zero G test bed
for NASA, United States Navy, Air Forces and industrial laboratories.
Mr. Balmut was a local elected official and active in the community for 34
years. He was a member of the St. Paris Village Council for 12 years and
served on the St. Paris Board of Public Affairs for 11 years. Mr. Balmut
was a craftsman, building his home in St. Paris and the former Farm View
Meats Grocery. Mr. Balmut was a Charter member of the 390th Veteran's Association
and the 390th Memorial Museum Foundation in Tucson, AZ. He was a charter
and life member of the Philip Grieser Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7645
and a member of the Keith Cretors American Legion Post #148.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, ever mindful of his duty
to family and country.He is survived by his loving wife, Margery, of 57 years,
and was a beloved father and grandfather to two daughters, Marcia (Greg)
Ward and DiAnne (Andy) Doss, both of Urbana; five grandchildren , Katherine
(Katie) Ward Setty (Steve) of Elmore, Vincent Ward of Cincinnati, Anthony
Ward, Joseph Doss and Peter Doss, all of Urbana; and one great-grandson,
Anders Stephen Henryk Setty of Elmore. He was preceded in death by his parents
and two brothers, Edward and Julius.
Funeral services will be held ant 11 a.m. on Monday in the St. Paris First
Baptist Church with the Rev. C. Franklin James, Pastor of the Westville United
Methodist Church, officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted
by Phillip Greiser Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7645 and Keith Cretors American
Legion Post 148. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Paris. Pallbearers
will be Greg Ward, Andy Doss, Steve Setty, Joseph Doss, Vincent Ward, Peter
Doss, Anthony Ward and Burl Barnes.

2007 Frank Lane Beatty, 89, of Urbana passed away at the
Wellington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, March 18, 2007. Mr. Beatty was born on May 19, 1917 in Champaign County the
son of Waldo and Lucy (Snyder) Beatty. Frank was a lifelong Champaign County Resident. In 1947 Frank
and his brother Byron opened the Paint Pot Store. In 1954 Frank opened the
Beatty Paints and remained active until his death. Frank enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. In 1997 he
became a member of the “Hole in One Club.” He was a charter member of the Esquire Club of Urbana
College. Frank was the 18th President of the Urbana Rotary
Club serving as president in 1973-1974. He had 47 years of perfect attendance.
He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Dorothy (Hart) Beatty, whom he
married on March 29, 1954; children and their spouses Gary (Jeannie) Beatty of
Urbana, Sherry Ann (Rev. Wr’near) Wilcox of California, and Tim (Leah Foradori)
Jordan of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren Bruce and Jessica Hall, Donna
Hall-Franco, Lisa Hall, Karma Wilcox, Marshall Wilcox and Vanessa Longacre, Chad
and Amy Jordan, Matt Jordan, Alex Jordan and Anna Jordan; great-grandchildren,
Ashley Franco, Spencer and Duffy Cleland and Derrick and Angela Hall and their
children, Brayden and Dekota Jo as well as numerous nieces and nephews of
several generations. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers V. L., Bill

Mrs. Mary Angeline BEATY , 74, wife of Daniel BEATY , died at 1 p.m. Tuesday
in her home following an illness of seven months.
Born October 19, 1874 in Mad River Township, Mrs. BEATY was a daughter of
James and Rebecca ZERKLE KESSLER. Surviving besides her husband are three
sons, Clyde, New Carlisle; James, St. Paris and Robert, Fenton, Ind.; a daughter,
Mrs. Charles SPRIGGS, St. Paris, and a number of grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Richeson-Wickham funeral home, to remain for services
at 2 p.m. today in charge of the Rev. Rex VAN COURT, pastor of the St. Paris
Baptist church of which she was a member. Burial will be in Myrtle Tree Cemetery.
Beightol, Margaret Kite Gorman – Urbana Daily Citizen,
Tuesday, 30 October 2007 Margaret Gorman Beightol, age 87, of Ruskin, Florida and St.
Paris, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 27, 2007 in Florida. Margaret was born on April 10, 1920 in Champaign County,
Ohio, daughter of the late Warder and Nina (Kite) Stevens. She married Donald D. Gorman on August 6, 1942 and he
preceded her in death on January 29, 1988. On February 3, 1990 Margaret married
Vincent Beightol and he died on December 28, 1998. Margaret is survived by three daughters: Sharon (Bruce)
Springer of St. Paris, Shirley (Bruce) Carman of St. Paris, and Bev (Alan)
Huizenga of Bradenton, Florida. She is also survived by eight grandchildren:
Michelle (Mike) Stevens of Springfield, Kyle (Juli) Springer of St. Paris, Kathy
(Joe) Murry of Springfield, Kimberly (Michael) Blair of West Liberty, Kristine
(David) Young of New Carlisle, Bradley (Lisa) Pine of Mechanicsburg, Ryan
(Tracy) Pine of Rosewood, Rebecca Pine of St. Paris, and fifteen great
grandchildren. One sister, Miriam Jenkins of Urbana and a sister-in-law, Maxine
Stevens of St. Paris also survive. Additional survivors include three
stepchildren; James (Joyce) Beightol of Kennedy, NY, Leon (Barb) Beightol of
Falconer, NY, Darlene (Mike) Mendrick of Jamestown, NY, one step-son-in-law,
Lennie Max Starr of Falconer, NY, eleven step grandchildren and numerous step
great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded
in death by a brother, Roderick Stevens, a brother-in-law, Bill Jenkins and a
step-daughter Linda Starr. Margaret was a 1938 graduate of Christiansburg-Jackson High School and a
member of the Grafton United Methodist Church, St. Paris. She attended Bliss
Business College in Columbus, Ohio and formerly employed by Graham Local Schools
at Graham South as a secretary until her retirement in 1982. Funeral services
will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Atkins-Shively Funeral
Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverends Mark Atterhold

John Earl BEATTY, the four-mouth-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon BEATTY who
live southeast of St. Paris died on Friday night from pneumonia.
In addition to his parents he leaves two sisters, the maternal grandparents,
Mrs. and Mr. L. W. RUNKLE, and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Harley BEATTY,
all of the St. Paris community.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at 10:oo A.M. from the Bert Richeson
funeral home with Rev. E. E. CRAMER in charge. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

Lauren Daniel BERRY , youngest son of Elizha and Sarah BERRY , was born near
St. Paris, O., May 18, 1884 and closed his eyes to all that is of earth,
and his spirit passed to the dawn of a brighter day, January 7, 1908, aged
23 years, 7 months, and 19 days. He was united in marriage with Florence
PIPER, September 26th, 1907, in Richmond, Ind., Rev. J. A. WADE, officiating.
The tender ties of friendship, the sacred bonds of loving hearts have had
their prospects shattered in the morning of life. In their brief married
life, what joyful anticipations were had of the future. Alas! How soon summoned
the beloved one to go hence. We tender to all the mourning relatives from
many hearts, the most profound sympathy in this their hour of deepest sorrow,
and direct them all to the Savior, the great burden bearer and sorrow sharer.
A cheering thought comes to us, that those are faithful, some sweet day,
sometime we will meet again, our loved ones, never more to be parted.
Reunion is certain, not under winter sky, but in eternal spring-tide. The
funeral service was held in the Baptist church and was very largely attended,
Friday, Jan. 10, at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. STITH, Rev. D. M.
HORNER and Rev. E. S. WEAVER were present.

Mrs. Nettie BERRY , 53, of Marion, died Friday at 11:45 p. m. at Jane Case
Sanatorium in Delaware after an illness of four years.
She was born March 14, 1891, to Mr. and Mrs. George SWEIGER in Champaign
county. Sept. 12, 1912 she married W.J. BERRY . They have lived in Marion
25 years having gone there from St. Paris. Mr. BERRY now lives at the Kumfort
hotel in Marion. Mrs. BERRY was a member of Fite Memorial Baptist church.
Surviving with the husband are two sons, Kenneth W., with the Navy stationed
overseas, Richard A., of Camp Cooke, Cal., two brothers, Ernest SWEIGER of
Cleveland and Homer, address unknown, and one grandchild. One son preceded
her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday and burial was made in Marion cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Viola BERRY, 78,
who was found dead at her home on Springfield street Saturday morning. Rev.
A.O. Long officiated and burial was in Myrtle Tree cemetery. Rites were held
in the Richeson funeral home.
Coroner Richard BRAND pronounced death due to natural causes, disclosing
that she had died of a heart attack while listening to the radio in the living
room of her home Friday night. A light was burning and the radio was turned
on in the room where she was found lying on the davenport. She lived alone.
Survivors are a son, Floyd BERRY, Urbana Route 2; and four sisters, Mrs.
Mattie BATDORF, St. paris Route 2; Mrs. Ella KITE, St. Paris Route 2; Mrs.
Emma WARD, Urbana Rural, and Mrs. Jennie BATDORF, Columbus.

March 2007 Helen V. Black, 90, of Urbana went to be with the Lord at
1:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 in McAuley Center, Urbana, Ohio. She was born
September 12, 1916 in Champaign County, the daughter of Reuben and Alta
(Russell) Randall. Helen was a 1935 graduate of Salem High School. She was a member of the Urbana United Methodist and where she
taught Sunday School for many years. She retired from Grimes Manufacturing in
1978 after 37 years of service. Survivors include her husband, Roger Black, whom she married
in December 1951; sister-in-law, Mildred Randall: nieces and nephews Margaret
Ann Ropp, George L. Randall, Robert E. (Ruth Ann) Randall, Mary Jane (Dan)

Henry L. and Nellie May (Brandon) Baughman. Martha retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1972
after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist
Church, Olivet Chapter of O. E. s. 58, Christiansburg, Daughter of the Nile
Azizah 57 Temple, Dayton, OH, and Fairborn White Shrine 62. Survivors include a daughter; Lou Ann Blose of Troy, OH,
three sons, Wayne (Betty) Blose of Payette, ID, James (Kathryn) H. Blose of
Canton, GA, and Charles W. Blose Jr. of Dayton, OH, several grandchildren and

BLAZER -- SPRINGFIELD DAILY NEWS, Thursday, 17 October 1963
Mechanicsburg--Mrs. Jennie BLAZER, 78, of 71 S. Main st. died at noon Wednesday
in Doctor's Hospital, Columbus, where she had been a patient for six days.
She was the widow of John BLAZER who died in 1920.
Mrs. BLAZER was born in Union Township, Champaign County, March 14, 1885,
and was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Mutual and the Faith Council
of the Daughters of America in Urbana. Survivors include a son, Lloyd of
near Urbana, and a daughter, Mildred BLAZER in whose home she lived. In addition
there are a grandson and a granddaughter.
The body was taken to the Skillman funeral home where friends may call and
will be taken to Grace Methodist Church in Mutual at 12:30 p.m. where it
will lie in state until 2 p.m. at which time services will be conducted by
the Rev. Alfred CHAPMAN. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual.
BLUE -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. 17 August 1939
Mrs. Sarah Jane BLUE , 67, was found dead last Saturday morning at the home
of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John EATON, near North Lewisburg.
Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mrs. BLUE had apparently been in
the best of health and with the Eaton family had attended the Champaign County
Fair on Friday.
The deceased was a sister of three Urbana men who have died in the recent
past from heart attacks. These were Lewis, Thomas and Edward HILTIBRAN. Both
Lewis and Thomas died of heart attacks, one while visiting a physician's
office and the other while unloading a load of coal. Edward, the most recent
death of the brothers, occurred May 15 when he was found dead in bed.
Survivors include four children, who are: Mrs. Wallace CLEM, St. Paris; John
BLUE , Urbana; Harvey BLUE , Rosewood, and Mrs. John EATON at whose home
she died. She also leaves four brothers, Fred, John and Joseph, all of Urbana,
and Isaac.

Daniel BODEY, an esteemed extownsman, died of consumption Thursday at the
age of 56 years, 2 months and 13 days. He leaves a wife and daughter and
many sorrowing relatives and host of sympathetic friends.
His funeral took place from the Millerstown Reformed church Saturday and
was conducted under the honors of war, he being a veteran of the late Rebellion
and a member of the H. C. Scott Post, which was represented at the funeral.

2010 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 1, 1956 in Urbana, OH the son of Laurel and Shirley
(Werner) Bodey. Keith was a 1974 graduate of Graham High School and was employed at Honeywell
for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and boating on Indian Lake and was a
member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He is survived by his loving companion, Tondra Anderson; his mother, Shirley
Bodey of Urbana; his children, Stacy (Steve) Ferguson of Springfield and Scott
(Kristina) Bodey of Kenton; five grandchildren, Tyler Powell, Jacob Cambers,
Steven Ferguson Jr., Noah Ferguson and Lane Bodey; one brother, Dale (Rita)
Bodey of Strongsville; two sisters, Diane (David) Burkhart of Troy and Jenni

BODEY, Russell E. – Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, 1 March 2010 Russell E. Bodey, 81, of Urbana, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 in
his son’s residence in Wellston, Ohio. He was born March 14, 1928 in Concord, Ohio, the son of Paul and Anna May
(Kiser) Bodey. He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict, spending time
in Japan. He retired in 1981 from International Harvester after 36 years of
service. Russell, also known as Duke loved farming with his sons and his
father-in-law, Garnard Zerkle. Russell recently accepted Christ as his Lord and
Savior. Russell is survived by his daughter, Gloria (Brack) Houchens of Gallipolis,
Ohio; sons, Brian Bodey of Urbana, Ohio, Gary (Vicki) Bodey of Wellston, Ohio;
thirteen grandchildren: Dorothy, Perry, Tyson, Hannah, Landon, Levi, Billy,

Mrs. Naomi BODEY, widow of the late Christian BODEY, died at her home in
this village Wednesday morning at 3 o'clock. The deceased was born in Coshocton
County, Ohio, October 18, 1832. When about eighteen years of age she came
to this county where she lived almost coutinually the balance of her life.
She was united in marriage to James McALEXANDER, who died during the Civil
War, leaving two children, Wm. E. McALEXANDER and Miss Lodina who made her
home with her mother. Christian BODEY became her second husband, who died
in December, 1907. To this union three children were born, E. L. BODEY and
Samuel O. BODEY, of Urbana, and Perry BODEY, of Spencerville, Ohio. Mrs.
BODEY was a most estimable lady and loved by a wide circle of friends.
The funeral will be held tomorrow, Friday, in the Lutheran church at this
place at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the Rev. HAMILTON, of Rosewood, officiating.

BOLLINGER, ALVA C. Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, September

- Alva C. BOLLINGER, 90, an attorney at St. Paris for many years, died Sunday
at 2 p.m. at a Dayton Rest Home. BOLLINGER had been at the rest home for
the last six months. He retired 10 years ago and left St. Paris three years
ago to live with a son in Dayton. He was a native of Champaign County and
was a member of the St. Paris Lions Club.Bollinger was the son of George
and Maggie LEWIS BOLLINGER. Surviving are one son Donald of Dayton; two
grandchildren; three great grandchildren, two brothers, James of St. Paris
and Freeman of Delphos and one sister, Mrs. Sam White of Lena. Services will
be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 23) at the Richeson-Wickham Funeral Home

Mrs. Blanch K. BOLLINGER, 80, wife of A. C. BOLLINGER, retired St. Paris
attorney, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday en route to Piqua Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bollinger is a native of Ohio and a member of the St. Paris Lutheran
Church. Surviving besides her husband are a son Roderick WALBORN of Toledo;
a grandson, William WALBORN of Worthington; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the
Richeson–Wickham funeral home by the Rev. Wilho W. PAANANEN. Burial

Mrs. Dora Belle BOLLINGER, 97, formerly of Christiansburg, died at 1:30 a.m.
Sunday (December 19) in the Belle Manor Rest Home in New Carlisle.Mrs.BOLLINGER
had been a patient there for 11 years and seriously ill for the past two
years. Born in Champaign County, April 7, 1874, she was the daughter of Chance
and Alice Smith GABRIEL and was a member of the Christiansburg United Methodist
Church. A nephew, Harold GABRIEL of Fairborn, is the sole survivor. Her husband
Isaac, preceded her in death. Friends may call at the Richeson-Wickham Funeral
home in St. Paris after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Wednesday (December 21) in the funeral home by the Rev. Edward
Stilzel.

DEATH OF EPHRAIM BOLLINGER
Ephraim Bollinger died Sunday (Jan. 29) at his home, near Neosho Rapids. He had suffered for some time with a cancerous growth, and his death was not unexpected. His wife and five of his children were with him. Ephraim Bollinger was born in Maryland, December 26, 1836. When a boy he moved with his parents to Ohio, and was married there to Miss MARTHA JANE JORDON (sic) in September 1865. When a young man Mr. Bollinger united with the Dunkard church of St. Paris, Ohio. In 1869 the family moved to Kansas, settling on a farm near Neosho Rapids, where they have continued to live. Upon coming to Kansas Mr. Bollinger joined the Dunkard church of Madison; and was a most faithful member of that organization. Besides his wife he leaves six children. they are Mrs. MARY L. CARPENTER and Mrs. CORA E. COWEN of Emporia; Mrs. ELLA M. ALMAN, of Needles, Calif.; WILLIAM F. BOLLINGER, JOHN L. BOLLINGER and Miss(sic) *ORA BOLLINGER, of Neosho Rapids. *Ora Bollinger was a son.

BOLLINGER 95, former resident of the Christiansburg community, died in his
home, southeast of Sidney, at 1:15 a.m. Monday, following a short illness.Born
near St. Paris, December 27, 1850 (sic) (bible entry 27 Dec 1851) he was
the last of a family of eight children. He was twice married. His first wife
was Emmaline KIRBY, to whom he was married in 1873. She died 41 years ago.
In 1910, he was married to Dora GABRIEL, who survives with two children by
his first marriage. They are Mrs. Mary A. DAVIS of St. Paris and Emanuel
BOLLINGER of Wapakoneta; also four grandchildren. Funeral services
are to be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Honey Creek Baptist Church, north
of Christiansburg. Burial to be made in Honey Creek cemetery. Friends may
call at the residence Tuesday and Wednesday (August 28) until time for the
service.

1865. Mrs. Bollinger is survived by six children; *Miss(sic) Ora E. BOLLINGER,
W.F. BOLLINGER, and J.L. BOLLINGER, of Neosho Rapids; Mrs. Mary L. CARPENTER
and Mrs. Cora COWEN, of Emporia; and Mrs. Ella M. ALMAN, of Los Angeles,
Calif. Twenty-one grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.

1942--O.E. BOLLINGER DEAD--Ora E. Bollinger, 822 Merchant, a retired carpenter
and contractor, died at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening (November 24, 1942) the
Newman Memorial County hospital. He was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning.
Mr. Bollinger followed the carpenter trade for 45 years. He was BORN
in ST. PARIS, Ohio, June 7, 1868, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. EPHRIAM
BOLLINGER and came to Lyon county in early childhood. He moved to Emporia
18 years ago.Mr. Bollinger MARRIED Louie E. Hamilton in Neosho Rapids on
MARCH 12, 1889. Mrs. Bollinger survives him. Besides his wife, he leaves
six sons, HARRY BOLLINGER, Topeka; WAYNE BOLLINGER, Emporia; WILLIAM BOLLINGER,
Atlanta, Ga.; VERN BOLLINGER, of Lottie, La.; HUBERT BOLLINGER, DeSoto, and
FLOYD(SIC) LLOYD intended) BOLLINGER, Topeka, and two daughters MRS. HATTIE
DAVIS, Reading, and MRS. LENA MARSHINSKY, Emporia. Surviving him also are
two brothers, WILLIAM BOLLINGER, Emporia, and JOHN L. BOLLINGER, Neosho Rapids;
three sisters, MRS. MARY CARPENTER, Emporia; MRS. ELLA ALLMAN, Oakland, Calif.;
and MRS. CORA COWEN, Emporia; five grand-daughters, six grandsons, and one
great-grandchild. A son, CHARLES, died in 1928. Mr. Bollinger was a member
of the Modern Woodmen lodge.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Roberts-Blue Funeral home
for O.E. Bollinger, 822 Merchant, who died Tuesday. Rev. Orio Choguill, pastor
of the First Presbyterian church, conducted the services. E.J. Roberts and
L.W. Raynolds sang, accompanied by Mrs. Glenn A. Blue. The pallbearers were
five sons of Mr. Bollinger, HARRY, WAYNE, WILLIAM, HUBERT and LLOYD BOLLINGER,
and a brother JOHN BOLLINGER. Burial was in the Neosho Rapids
cemetery

son ISAAC until he arrives at the age of twenty one or intermarries.

October 2007 Harold R. “Pete” Borror, Sr., aged 69, of Saint Paris, passed away at 3:30
a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 in his residence. Pete was born on Nov. 15, 1937 in
Briggsdale, Ohio, the son of the late Harold D. and Dorothy (Jungkurth) Borror.
He married Patricia Kaiser, on April 26, 1958 and she survives in Saint Paris.
Harold is survived by two sons and two daughters: Tom (Suprena) Davis of Urbana,
Harold “Bob” Borror Jr. of Saint Paris, Donna Akers of Conover and Karen (Greg)
Barger of Saint Paris, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include one brother: Carl (Mary Anne) Borror of Orient,
Ohio, one sister: Mary Jane Breeze of Pickering, Ohio, and many nieces and
nephews. Two brothers: Orville and Charles Borror and two sisters: Freda Landon
and Donna Borror preceded him in death. Harold retired from RT Bundy, Urbana,
where he was a supervisor and truck driver. He was a former member of the Kiser
Lake Sportsman Club. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Oct. 11, 2007 at
1 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint
Paris, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and
friends will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral

ROBERT E. BORST 82, of 1010 North Main Street, Urbana, died at 11:33 a.m.
Wednesday, March 1, 1989 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. He was born
July 24, 1906 in Woodstock, Ohio, a son of Harry and Grace (HINTON) BORST.
He retired in 1968 after 27 years service with the Ohio Steel Foundry. He
managed the Econowash Laundry Mat in Urbana from 1959 to 1986. He was a member
of the Urbana United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 979
of Urbana, and Moose Lodge 1215 of Urbana of which he was the oldest member.
He is survived by his wife, Viola E. (PERRY) BORST, whom he married April
13, 1938 in Urbana; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Wilma) HUFFMAN of Urbana; a
son and daughter-in-law, Roger L. and Joyce BORST Sr. of Urbana; six
grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Florence CONFER of
Springfield; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister,
Helen WARNER; a brother, R. M. BORST. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana with Rev. James R.
Hartland officiating. Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery. Family will receive

Sidney and had worked earlier at Howard Paper Mill. He is survived by his wife Ruth A. (Brown) whom he married
Nov. 10, 1956, daughter Gloria Branson of Urbana; son, Brian Branson;
grandchildren Justin, Joshua, Francisca, Betsy, Ridge and Brouke; and sister
Eileen Clemens. Preceded in death by children Denis, Rickie, Michael, and
Crystal and a sister Carolyn Renshaw and a brother Marvin Branson. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

four other children, Berry Ann, Audrey, Stanley and Madeline BRANN at home;
her father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Morris THOMAS of Belleview, Ky.; two sisters
and four brothers.

November 2007 Mary Heaton Britton, 83, formerly of Prospect, died Monday,
November 26th at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Dalton, Ohio, where she
had resided for the past four years. Mary was born on February 16th,
1924, in Springfield, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Anna (Fick)
Heaton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers,
Clarence, Robert, Harry, Herman, and Donald Heaton, and by her sister, Doris
(Heaton) Dean. Mary graduated from Springfield High School in 1942 and was
married to the late Donald Britton on November 11th, 1942, in
Springfield, Ohio. Besides rasing five children, Mary worked as an executive
secretary, primarily in the Alumni Relations Office of Ohio Wesleyan University
in Delaware, and in the office of Abbott and Company in Prospect. She was a
member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prospect and was active in community
organizations of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Wayne) Hastings of
Urbana, and Barbara (Michael) Moses of Dalton; three sons, Donald Britton of
Englewood, Florida, Jeffrey (Bunny) Britton of Marion, and David (Rhonda)
Britton of Prospect; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Prospect with Rev. Russell Makant officiating. Burial will
follow at 3 p.m. in Rose Hill Burial Park, Springfield. Friencs may cann from 6

of William and Catherine DEATON, pioneer residents. She leaves a grandson,
Charles BRIGHT of Dayton, and several nieces and nephews. Two sons preceded
her in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist church in
Christiansburg of which she was a member. Rev. Lester Schlechty of Troy,
conducted the rites, followed by interment in the Honey creek cemetery in
charge of the Richeson funeral service.

Mrs. Geneva BROWN 63 years of age, wife of J. W. BROWN of Thackery died Saturday
evening at the Springfield City hospital following an operation she underwent
for abdominal trouble two weeks ago.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Wid STURGEON, Mrs. Sam
GABRIEL and one son, Ed BROWN . Her mother, Mrs. Ellen NEESE of Terre Haute,
three brothers, Tulley and Murray NEESE, St. Paris R. F. D., Robert of Terre

Mrs. BROWN was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John NEESE and was born March
22, 1867. Her entire life was spent in this same community.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home in
charge of Rev. Carl D. KAMMERYER, pastor of the Lutheran church in Thackery
of which Mrs. BROWN had been a member for a number of years. Burial
was made in Terre Haute cemetery by Bert Richeson, funeral director.

Sam BROWN, of Cromwell, Ind., died Tuesday at his home. he was born in St.
Paris seventy-eight years ago, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi BROWN.
He grew to manhood here and was first married to Christine BRIDLESTETTER.
One son George BROWN of Jackson Township, was born to them. he was married
a second time to Susan MILLER, who died about two years ago. Four sons, Alonzo,
Odis, Dewey and one whose name could not be learned, and one daughter, Goldie
survive. They all live in the vicinity of Cromwell.
Mr. BROWN was a brother of Mrs. Rachel BERRY and Mrs. F. C. GATDORF of this
place and Mrs. Katherine MARSHALL of Columbus. The funeral services were
held today at Cromwell.

Mrs Arlena Buck Dies at age 77 Mrs Arlena A Buck, 77, died suddenly at 12:15
P.M. Friday at her home three miles west of West Liberty in Harrison Township.
Death was due to a heart attack. Mrs BUCK was born near Sidney in Shelby
County and was formerly Miss Arlena BARKER. Her husband was the late Joseph
BUCK, who died in July, 1926. Mr and Mrs BUCK moved from Shelby County to
Champaign county 24 years ago. Deceased was a member of the West Liberty
Christian Church. She had made her home for several years with two sons,
Emmett and Roy. Surviving are six children. Five sons, Staley, Charles ,
Emmet and Roy, West Liberty, and Ralph, DeGraff; one daughter Mrs Thurzie
KAUFFMAN, West Liberty; two brothers, Isaac R BARKER, Fulton, Ind and Lancaster
C BARKER, Rochester, Ind, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be
conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday from the family home with Rev Robert E Wearley
officiating. interment will be in Fairview Cemetery by Troyer and Lynn, funeral
service.

BUCK--Urbana Citizen Tuesday, August 24, 1926
Mrs Arena BUCK, widow of Edward BUCK, died Sunday morning at the home of
a daughter, Mrs Margaret ROE, in West Liberty. She was 85 years of age and
death was due to a complication of diseases. Surviving are the daughter at
whose home she died, and one son, George BUCK of DeGraff. Another son, Dr
BUCK of Urbana died several years ago. There are also a number of grandchildren
surviving. Funeral services will be held from the Christian Church in West
Liberty, of which she was long a member. Tuesday afternoon at 2 P.M., Rev
R E Wearley, pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will be made
in West Liberty Cemetery by J L Troyer, village funeral director. Author

BUCK--Urbana Citizen, Friday, July 23, 1926
Well known farmer Succumbs After Long Illness-Funeral Friday Joseph BUCK,
aged about 68 years and a long time resident of West Liberty vicinity, died
at his home three miles west of that village Wednesday at 3 P.M. after a
prolonged illness from hardening of the arteries. He was a farmer by occupation
and will known and highly respected. He is survived by his widow and six
children, all of whom with the exception of Ralph, living at DeGraff, reside
in the home or in the near vicinity. These are Staley, Mrs Thomas KAUFFMAN,
Charles , Emmett, and Roy BUCK. Funeral services in charge of Rev Robert
E Wearley, West Liberty, will be held in the home Friday at 2 P.M. Burial
arrangements are in charge of J L Troyer, West Liberty, undertaker, and interment
will be made in West Liberty

BUCK--Urbana Citizen, Saturday, July 5, 1958 Roy BUCK dies at Mary Rutan Roy BUCK, 59, West Liberty, route two, died at 3:45 P.M. Thursday at the Mary Rutan hospital in Bellefontaine where he had been admitted at 2:15 the same day. He was born September 27, 1898, Adams township. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Arleny (BARKER) BUCK. The operator of the Cotrell Pool Hall in West Liberty, he was a member of the Congregation Christian Church, member of the IOOF Lodge and Masonic Lodge in West Liberty. Surviving are four brothers, Staley BUCK, West Liberty, Charles BUCK, West Liberty, route one, Emmett BUCK, West Liberty route two, and Ralph BUCK, DeGraff route two; one sister, Mrs Thursie KAUFFMAN, West Liberty route two; three nephews and one niece. One sister preceded him in death. Services will be held at the Hosteter Memorial Home in West Liberty at 2 P.M. Sunday with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. The Rev Homer Knabel, will be in charge of t! he service Sunday.

BURNS
HEZEKIAH MONROE BURNS (Died 5 January 1917) Undated obit from an unnamed

When H. M. Burns reached the end of life's journey a long and eventful life
came to its close. He was born in Bath, Virginia, on May the 22nd,
1830. His father and mother, Peter and Elizabeth Burns, reared a family of
thirteen children. His early life was spent on his father's farm. On May
the 26th, 1853, he was married to Miss Louise Bradshaw at Cumberland, Md.
In 1859 Mr. And Mrs. Burns moved to Ohio and settled in Harrison township,
Champaign county. In keeping with the mode of travel of that day they came
through the country by private conveyance. In the early Sixties Brother Burns
answered the call of his country and joined the army, serving in the Co.
B, 134th O. V. I. After the war he became an active factor in the religious
and civic life of his community. He served for two years as justice of the
peace of Springhill village. Brother Burns was converted early in life
and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. He was a Methodist of the old
type, serving in the capacity of Class Leader, Exhorter and Local Preacher
for many years. In the passing of this life a link between an interesting
past and the present was broken. In his early manhood Brother Burns was
associated with Bishop Taylor who was serving his first charge on the circuit
where the family were members. In those days their home as a haven of rest
for many pioneer preachers whose names still live. About twenty years
ago Brother and Sister Burns moved to a small farm near St. Paris where they
resided until failing health caused them to move near their children.
Brother and Sister Burns lived in happy wedlock almost sixty-four years.
Their home was blessed with three children, who with their mother still survive
him. The children are Mrs. J. E. Piatt of Springhills, Mrs. Jno. E. Kite
and C. V. Burns, of St. Paris.

June 2007 Marilyn S. (Brown) Butts, age 72, of Rosewood, Ohio died in
her residence of 60-plus years at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007. Marilyn was born on July 31, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio, the only
daughter of the late Henry and Lena (Coverstone) Brown. She is survived by her
husband of 53 years, Floyd R. Butts, of Rosewood, whom she married on September
26, 1953. Four children and their spouses also survive her: Susan and
Kurt Traylor of Rosewood, Jane and Michael Ludlow of Rosewood, David and Dana
Butts of Union, KY, and Linda and Dick Jenkins of Saint Paris. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother, and she was “Nana” to
11 gr4andchildren: Amy (Terry) Kimball, Ben (Tiffany) Ludlow, Molly Traylor,
Mark (Amy) Traylor, Steve (Carrie) Traylor, Zach (Beth) Traylor, Betsy (Brook)
Cupps, Ty Jenkins and fiancé’ Maggie Edgar, Adam Jenkins and special friend
Krystal Bair, Sara Butts, Frasier Butts; eight great-grandchildren: Andrew
Kimball, Grace, Jacob and Samuel Ludlow, Lexi and Mia Traylor and Ally and Gabe
Cupps. Marilyn was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church
and a 1952 graduate of Adams Township High School. She worked in the family
business, X-Cel Feed Mill, Inc. of Rosewood as a secretary and bookkeeper.
Marilyn loved music and in high school she participated in many vocal music
contests and won many awards. She continued to sing as a soloist in church and
for numerous weddings throughout the years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the
Rosewood United Methodist Church with Reverend Beverly Avers presiding. Burial
will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held
on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield
Street, Saint Paris, Ohio from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be
made to Cancer Association of Champaign County, P. O. Box 38125, Urbana, Ohio,

Hezekiah Monroe Burns died at the home of his son, C. V. Burns, on last Friday
afternoon at the age of 87 years. For several weeks he had been in a critical
condition, having become helpless for some time before his death. When his
health commenced to fall, he and his wife left their home on Plum street
and went to live with their son.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M.
E. church. Rev. W. C. Nash officiated and was assisted by Rev. N. Y. Mathews.
The services were in charge of W. A. Brand Post No. 98, G. A. R., of Urbana,
Col. Todd being present to take part in the burial ceremony. Interment was
made in Evergreen cemetery. Among those from out of town to attend
the funeral were Geo. Lockridge, a nephew of Williamsville, Va., Wm. Mowen,
of Urbana; Mrs. John Dudleston, of Columbus; Otto Clark and family, of Rosewood;
Samuel Miley and family of Crayon; Thomas Speece, Jr. and Thomas Speece,
Sr. of Springhills.
