QUERY:
Looking for John Fendall Bell (Beall), son of John (Fendall?) Bell or Beall, born in Fluvanna County, VA. Virginia Historic Marriage Register lists John Bell married Sally A. Strange on 30 Oct. 1811, married by William Baskett. The son married Jane Adie of Stafford County, VA around 1831, had several kids including Sally Fendall Bell (Beall),
born 1832, married Henry Milstead of Prince William County, VA in 1849. She, husband, and all children buried
in Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, VA.
I would like to come there to check your records, where are they located?
SURNAME: Pettit
DATE: 26 November 2000
NAME: LlorracBee@aol.com
QUERY: I've attempted to e-mail Connie Flinchum via her link on the surname index at
connie.flin@cwix.com. Twice the "server rejected the address" and returned
my mail.
I'm researching my Pettit family from Fluvanna County. I have a copy of the
graves listed in the Huckstep/Pettit Cemetery near Columbia. I asked Connie
is she could shed any light on the link between the two families?
The 1880 census lists Fanny S. Pettit, 74, living with her daughter Mary E.,
37. Charles Huckstep, 18, was listed as "farm manager". I suspect "Fanny"
is the same Frances Pettit, who appears with her husband, Samuel M. Pettit,
in the 1850 and 1860 census. I believe Samuel died in 1867. I wondered if
Charles Huckstep could have been a relative of Fanny/Frances?
I believe Cynthia C. Pettit, 1842--1897, who is buried in the old cemetery is
my great-grandmother. My great-grandfather was William James Pettit. A
William J. Pettit is listed as buried there--with no dates--only his CSA
service noted. According to his second wife's widow's pension application,
he died on October 6, 1921.
Do you have any more info on those buried in that cemetery or can you tell me
how I might contact Connie Flinchum? Thanks.

SURNAME: Maxey
DATE: 27 September 2000
NAME: Ray
QUERY:
I happen to know of a fellow by the name of Ed Maxey who now lives in Silver Spring Maryland. He is about 85 years old. He owns some small islands off the James River and may have had relatives related to the pirate Captain Kidd. He is a really cheerful and wonderful guy. He recently, well, 11 years ago remarried.
I speak with him about once a week. He has such a history and I was wondering if you knew him or of his family. Since they date back quit sometime ago and are from your area.
I have been trying to convince them to get a computer but they are somewhat skeptic.
Do you have any access to something that might impress him in terms of history?

SURNAME: FORD & ENGLAND
DATE: 2 June 2000
NAME: Glynda Ford Ellman
QUERY: My name is Glynda Ford Ellman and I live in Texas. Have been busy researching and finding some of my family but no significant research so far in Virginia, so I'm trying to begin AGAIN.
My 3rd great-grandfather, JOHN FORD SR., was born in Albermarle County, however he married in Fluvanna County. His wife, ELIZABETH ENGLAND, was born in Fluvanna County according to information copied from the Ford Bible belonging to this John Ford Sr. born Dec. 1762.
Most of my research has been in Eastern TN. and AR. on the Ford. It was listed on John Ford Sr.'s Rev. Pension papers that the date of his marriage was taken from his family's Bible, however I do not have the Bible and we believe it burned up in an ancestor's home in the late 1900s; that is if John Sr. had it with him when he moved there by 1801/02. If not, there is
the possibility this Bible may still be in the possession of one of the Ford descendants still living in Virginia...oh what a find!
Another tidbit of information that I have is taken from an obituary on one of John Sr.'s grandchildren, who died in 1914 and that is that this man, an Indian fighter in Oregon and born in 1835, was born about 20 miles from Richmond, VA. While several of us researching this line believe this obituary is somewhat misleading, the obituary may be instead THAT HIS FAMILY
WAS ORIGINALLY from the Richmond area of VA. (One reason we find it unlikely is because this man's father traveled in the wagon train as an infant (or was born while on the trail) but all later censuses show him born in VA., and he is accounted for in the 1830 & 1840 censuses of Tenn with all of his family there.)
Want to make contact with anyone researching these lines and will gladly share.
