QUERY: I am looking for descendants of David Porter SMITH (1836 - ?) of Tisbury, MA and perhaps Fork Union, VA. He had at least two children by an unknown spouse: (1) Marion E. SMITH (probably born before 1888) who married George A. PAGE before December 1905, and was living in Fork Union, Virginia on that date. (2) Jessie E. SMITH (probably born before 1888) was also living in Fork Union, Virginia in December 1905. Both daughters were still believed to be living in July 1919, although a letter mailed to them at Staunton, Virginia in August 1918 was returned stamped "not known."

QUERY: Seeking information concerning the family of my great great grandparents Hugh Lewis and Frances (SUTHERLAND) BRAGG who married in 1814, Fluvanna County, Virginia.  They had quite a large family.  By 1840, they had migrated to Ross County, OH and the census shows a total of 12 living in their household.  By the time they appear on the 1850 census of Moultrie Co., IL, there are only 5 children then living in their household, plus Sarah SUTHERLAND, an aged blind female who is thought to be Mrs. BRAGG's mother.  I am seeking the date and place of death for Hugh Lewis & Frances BRAGG (still living in 1860), and Sarah SUTHERLAND.  I am unable to locate the death record of burial site for either of them in Moultrie County, IL. This family might possibly have gone to Missouri sometime after 1860.  I am also unable to find any information concerning the two youngest sons of Hugh Lewis & Frances BRAGG.  Does anyone know what ever happened to Thomas, b. ca. 1839, OH, and Henry, b. ca. 1840, OH?  Contact: DOROTHY D. We are searching for the ancestors of John Harris ( m. Delila Shores 1799 Fluvanna). They had the following children: Sarah Jane (Mrs. George Sage); Frances (Mrs. Thomas Patterson); Nancy Rice (Mrs. Samuel McKinley); Thomas Randall Harris who married Eliza Frye Foreman; Elizabeth (Mrs. Andrew Wright) and John C. Harris. John Harris,Sr. died in 1813, and , in 1815 Delila moved the family to Bourbon County, Ky. where she, in 1818, married Reuben Lewis. Delila Shores' parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Shores. Thomas died in 1815 at the home of his son by his first wife, Thomas Shores, Jr. It is probable that Thomas Shores' first wife was Martha Cocke. Thomas Shores, Sr. appears in several land transactions in Albemarle and Fluvanna Counties as well in the tax lists of Powhatan and Fluvanna Counties. He also may be the Thomas Shores who was a member of the vestry in Hanover Co. in about 1765. Thomas Shores' second wife was Elizabeth Johnson, probably the daughter of John Johnson of Albemarle and Fluvanna Counties.

One known brother was RICHARD MANLY (m. Sarah "Sallie" RANDLE of NC) born in VA abt. 1782, died in Henry Co., TN after 1850. I've found one JOHN MANLEY in FLUVANNA COUNTY, VA listed in VA Heads of Families in 1782. It shows there were six white souls in his household. Could this be Rev. John's father? I've also found an ISAAC MANLEY in VA to TN to TX where the line settled. There are also Manly/Manley's in Dinwiddie, Nottoway, Brunswick and other VA counties. QUERY: I am looking for any information on a Myrtilia S. MORRIS, daughter of John Lea MORRIS and Emily Jane LASLEY. Myrtilia was born on 16 Mar 1847. Her mother died when she was 5; her father when she was 8. After the death of her father in 1855, she appears in the household of her aunt and uncle, Hardenia LASLEY and Ashley J. BELL (this according to the 1860 Census for Fluvanna County). At the time of the 1860 census, Myrtilia was 13 years old. By the time of the 1870 Census, she has disappeared from the BELL household and would have been 23, old enough to have been married. Does anyone have a Myrtilia S. MORRIS married into their family? I would love to know what happened to her. (Please note that she is recorded as Matilda in the 1850 census, but our family Bible records her as Myrtilia.)

Benjamin Martin, Revolutionary war ancester, was born on the Martin Plantation, on the Chickahominy River, April 8,1746 and died in Wilkes County, North Carolina, October 31,1821. County Order Book of Fluvanna County shows that Benjamin Martin was appointed Ensign and sworn into office on September 4,1777. His brother, Henry Martin was appointed First Lieutenant, and two other brothers, John and William were also recommended on September 4, 1777, as Second Lieutenants. The Federal Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina show Benjamin had 10 children. Benjamin moved from Fluvanna County to Wilkes County, North Carolina in 1782.

QUERY: I just found out that I may have ancestors from Fluvanna Co. All I have is John HANCOCK married Elizabeth MADDOX. They possibly had these 2 children: 1. Nancy Hancock. b. Jan. 17, 1763 in Cunningham, Fluvanna Co. She married Jesse CORN on either Feb. 18 , 1780 or Feb. 21, 1780. They lived in Patrick Co. Va. After her husband died, Nancy went to Franklin Co. TN where she died in 1848.
2. Benjamin Hancock married Anna Corn ( sister of Jesse?) in 1781 in Fluvanna Co.

QUERY: The Lucy Riley you mentioned was my great, great, great grandmother, and Dennis Riley was my great, great, great grandfather (I got my middle name Dennis from him). I have been doing research, and I think that Abraham Riley was Dennis Riley's father -- and it appears that Abraham's wife was Sarah -- they lived somewhere in Fluvanna shortly after 1800. I haven't pursued the Civil War connection yet--but it is distinctly possible that Robert Samuel Campbell was a half-brother of my great grandfather, John Dennis Campbell.

He was the son of John and Mary Hemingway of K&Q; County, both known in Essex County records. Daniel married a Spotsylvania county girl of some standing but she died young. On one side of my Fluvanna lines, I am a third cousin to Michele Thomas (well, actually to her husband), so my lines on that side are much the same as her's -- Kidd, Tilman, Duncan, Snead, Hill, Moon & Morris. The other side of my Fluvanna lines are from eastern Fluvanna and they blend over into Goochland & Louisa. Those Fluvanna surnames are -- Richardson, Kennon, Payne, Barrett, Fleming, Woodson & Bowles.

Terease E. GLASS, 20 Nov 1869 in Rockingham Co., VA, they settle in Augusta Co., VA about the same time and show up in the 1860 Augusta Co., census. James M. BISHOP was a shoemaker and it is believed his father was also in the trade as a Tanner.
