Each month, we feature a biographical sketch drawn from records available right here on our USGenWeb county site! These sketches bring local history to life by highlighting the stories of individuals who lived, worked, and served in our community—whether they were early settlers, teachers, farmers, veterans, or public servants. Our sketches may be based on a variety of historical sources: a military veteran whose service is documented in War of 1812 or Civil War pension files; a community member pieced together through census records and occupational listings; or a forgotten name recovered from a cemetery transcription. Each profile is intended to show how everyday records can help us reconstruct the lives of those who shaped Dinwiddie County’s past. Check back monthly for new stories—and if you have a record or life story you’d like to see featured, we’d love to hear from you!
