The Dinwiddie County VAGenWeb Project is part of the USGenWeb Project, a nationwide network of volunteers working to provide free online genealogical resources for every U.S. county and state. Our mission is to make historical and genealogical records accessible to all who are researching their family history in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.
A Brief History of Dinwiddie County
Dinwiddie County was formed in 1752 from Prince George County and named after Robert Dinwiddie, then-Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. The county has a rich history that includes Revolutionary War activity, Civil War battles (including Five Forks and Petersburg Campaign sites), and deep agricultural roots. The county seat is Dinwiddie.
This site is a collaboration of many contributors, past and present, who have donated time and materials to preserve the heritage of the region. We are deeply grateful for these efforts and encourage others to share records, photographs, or documents that may help others in their genealogical research.
