Dixie County is a county located in the Big Bend region of the northern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,422. Its county seat is Cross City. Dixie County was created in 1921 from the southern portion of Lafayette County and named for "Dixie", the common nickname for the southern United States. Since Dixie County wasn't created until 1921, and created from the southern portion of Lafayette County, you may also want to search Lafayette County records. I could not find any history to pull from other out-of-copyright books so far. This county will need records abstracted from the census, birth, deaths, marriages and other church records that may be found on the FamilySearch website and databases. You can create a free login at their site which will be beneficial in searching for your ancestors in this area of Florida.
If you have information and/or data to contribute, please contact the county coordinator. If there is no county coordinator, please feel free to contact the state coordinator whose email is linked above.
