Randolph Thompson, age 75, passed away peacefully at home with his family
by his side on Friday morning, May 8, 2015. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Hassell and Judith Thompson, and two sisters, Jean Peters and Judy
Miller.
He is
survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Louise G. Thompson; four children
and their spouses: daughter Lisa (Steve) Helms; son Travis (Cheryl) Thompson;
son Tater (Robin) Thompson; and daughter Jackie (Barthel) Padgett. He was
also blessed with his precious grandchildren: Brian (Shelia) Helms, Jarrad
(Megan) Helms, Jordan Helms, Victoria Helms, Stephanie Helms, John Kiker, Matt (Tressa) Kiker,
Amber Thompson, Jacqueline Thompson, Dustin Thompson, Jacob Thompson, and
Carly Thompson.
More
blessings include his 4 great-grandchildren: Matthew, Hunter, Ethan, and
Tucker Helms.
Other
survivors include a niece, Jennifer Eggers; nephews, Frankie Peters, Davie
Peters, Stevie Peters, and John Miller; and a special aunt, Aleen T. Wade.
Lewis was owner and operator of Simmons Grocery for thirty-five years and
spent the past four years as a bus driver for Floyd County Public Schools.
He was a Virginia Tech graduate and an avid supporter of the Floyd County
sports program. His enthusiasm and passion were evident as he showed up to
cheer for his Buffaloes. Lewis loved watching his grandkids play sports and
could somehow manage to show up for three games in different locations at
the same time. He enjoyed bluegrass music and also loved spending time
working in his yard and garden, generously sharing the fruits of his labors
with his friends and neighbors.
He loved the Lord and his church family, and we take comfort in knowing
that Lewis is in the presence of his Heavenly Father, as His Word assures
us, “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”
A celebration of Lewis’ life will be held at Pleasant Valley Church of the
Brethren, 3883 Alum Ridge Road, Floyd, on Monday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. with
Pastors Roy Turpin and Frankie Peters officiating. Interment will follow at
the Thompson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on
Sunday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
