258 I, being of sound mind & memory & knowing
the certainty of death & wishing to dispose of the property I have been
blessed with, do make this my last will and testament revoking all others. 1st I want my body decently buried without
any extravagant expenditures. 2nd I want my wife N. THOMPSON to have
a home at the place where we now live & is to be comfortably supported by
SON GEORGE THOMPSON her life time & she is in additon
to have the proceeds of ten cattle, which I have lately sold to G. Dobbins -
a black mare a milch cow & the household furniture that she wants. 3rd I give to the children of my daughter
ANGALINE SHELOR Dec, four hundred and seventy dollars to be equally divided
between the three excepting the youngest who is to have fifteen dollars more
than either of the others. This four hundred and seventy dollars is to
be paid withinn six years after my death. If
I do not pay it & take receipts before my death. 4th I give to my daughter MARY THOMPSONS
children five hundred dollars four hundred & forty having been paid to
them in land on which MARY THOMPSON now lives & the remaining sixty
dollars are to be paid within six years at the discretion of my
Executor unless I pay it & take a receipt for it. 5th I want my personal property equally
divided between my two SONS CHARLES H. THOMPSON & GEORGE G.
THOMPSON said property to be equally divided by three appraisers, each
one of my sons selecting one & the two selecting the other one & for
them to take it at the appraisers value without a sale. 6th I want my son GEORGE to have my real
estate lying in county of floyd. The said
GEORGE THOMPSON is to pay CHARLES H. THOMPSON fifteen hundred if GEORGE
has no trouble collecting the bonds given to his wife by Jo. C. Hall &
some bonds executed by him. If there is trouble or GEORGE fails to get them
then he is to pay CHARLES One Thousand dollars. Two hundred having been
paid & the other eight hundred dollars in four equal payments
annually. If he pays the fifteen hundred without the provision herein
set forth, then he is to pay the said CHARLES THOMPSON the thirteen
hundred due after taking out the two hundred paid in 4 annual equal
payments. This fifteeen hundred dollars being
the interest I give my son CHARLES out of my real estate - if GEORGE has no
trouble in getting his bonds & the bonds given to his wife by J. C.
Hall. If he fails to get them then CHARLES interest is One Thousand as
set forth. I hereby appoint my son
GEORGE THOMPSON my executor to carry out the provisions of this will & he
is to pay the legacies above mentioned our
of the bonds I have. Given unto my hand & seal the 6th day of Dec.

March 21 - The funeral of Mrs. Bertha Thompson Altizer, who died Wednesday
afternoon, was held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church and was
largely attended. The service was conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J.F.
Jones, assisted by Mr. James T. Troinger, prayers
being made by the Rev. Mr. Belcher and by the Rev. Mr. Warner. Interment was made
in the Dublin cemetery. Many beautiful flowers were sent in loving
remembrance of the deceased and in sympathy for the bereaved family. 1920 Burial: Dublin Cemetery, Dublin, Pulaski Co., VA.

(src: Find A Grave) Prominent Dublin Man Passes Away John
L. Thompson, prominent farmer and business man of Dublin died yesterday at
the Pulaski hospital. Mr.
Thompson was born in Floyd county and was reared at Riner. He was 64 years of
age. In
early manhood he was associated with the Stone Printing and Manufacturing
Company of Roanoke. In this capacity he traveled widely in various parts of
the United States. Mrs.
Thompson traveled extensively with him. In
1906 he was married to Miss Bessie Smith of Riner, who was the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Smith. Mr.
Thompson was the son of G. W. and Mattie Hall Thompson. He
is survived by his widow, one son, John W. Thompson, of Miami, and one
grandson, Billy Thompson, of, Dublin, two half-sisters. Mrs. Charlie Gregory
of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs. Albert Friedel of Cleveland, Ohio. Moves In 1907 In
1907 he moved to Dublin where he engaged extensively in the farming and
livestock business until 1941 when the New River Ordnance Works required his
farm as a part of the site for this plant. He was always interested in the
general welfare of the community in which he lived. He
was especially active in promoting the agricultural interests. At
11 years of age he joined the Methodist church. He was a regular attendant at
the worship services of his church and participated actively in the affairs
of the church, having served as chairman of the board of stewards and as
trustee of the Dublin Methodist church for over 20 years. During his term of
office, the Dublin church was remodeled, and Sunday school rooms added. He
was chairman of the school electoral board for several years. Funeral
Tomorrow Funeral
services will be conducted Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dublin Methodist church
with Rev. T. P. Carriger, pastor, in charge,
assisted by Rev. H. M. Wilson, pastor of the Dublin Presbyterian church.
Interment will be in the Dublin cemetery. Active pall bearers, members of
the, board of stewards of the Dublin Methodist Church are: A. C. Spotts, B. M. Anderson, W. F. Johnson, E. C. Grigsby. L.
L. Trinkle. H. R. Cecil, H. L. Jackson, and W. J. Jordan. 1943
