Burials at McNeil Cemetery,
Griffith Creek Rd, Floyd County, VA.
From Daniel’s Run Rd, turn onto Lick Ridge Rd and then right onto Griffith
Creek Rd.
This is James McNeill’s list; he
was our 3rd cousin. James
cleaned up this overgrown cemetery in 2008; he put a nice fence around it and
put up a durable sign. James visited
Uncle Johnny often in the last few years of Uncle Johnny’s life—and took him to
visit the cleaned-up cemetery. Sadly, James was killed in a horrific car wreck
at the foot of Bent Mountain on Mar 22, 2011; his daughter Dreama is
receptionist at Dr. Kuiken’s office in Floyd. NOTE: Dreama McNeill Eanes died
in 2022.
1. Rispie Muncy McNeil

James Ireson McNeil; fought for the Union in the Civil War

and China Wilson Smith; 3rd wife of Henry McNeil (Peter and China
are buried in McNeil Cemetery on Diamond Knob Rd)

(1832—1915) son of Jacob McNeil, Jr. and
Elizabeth Auldridge McNeil; brother of James Ireson McNeil; fought in Civil
War—not sure which side
7. Sarah Poff McNeil
(1850—1900) daughter of William and
Nancy Underwood Poff; wife of Samuel A. McNeil
8. Jacob William McNeil (Jake)

McNeil
10.
Elizabeth Auldridge McNeil (ca. 1800—after 1890)—No Stone—This is our great-great-grandmother. Wife of Jacob
McNeil, Jr. Daughter of William Auldridge of
Pocahontas County. She is listed in the 1890 Census of Floyd County, age 90
(compiled by Marjorie Fluor Moore).
[NOTE: I cannot understand why James Ireson McNeil, our
great-grandfather, did not erect stones for his parents. From all accounts, he
was a smart and prosperous man, for the times.]
11. Elizabeth McNeil
(7/1834--??) No Stone, but her coffin was ordered 2/10/1912 from Marion Hall.
Somewhere Dreama McNeill found the records of local coffin maker Marion Hall.

was ordered 9/13/1928 from Marion Hall.

1910 census, Floyd County.
13. Hester Muncy Austin No Stone, coffin ordered 11/4/1924 from
Marion Hall. No other information.
14. Arvil Austin No Stone, no other information
15. Samuel Furrow No Stone, no other information
16. Lola R. Furrow No Stone, no other information
17. Erwin
Flowers, Jr. No Stone but

Jacob Ireson (Buck) McNeil (huh?)
[Note—2017: Henry McNeil (#4 above)
was our great-great-uncle. He had 5 children by his 3rd wife (Mary
Smith McNeil, #5 above). One of his children was well-known Floyd County
musician, Sam McNeil; Sam was a founder of the Floyd County Ramblers. One of
his daughters was Elfreeda McNeil who married Paul Duncan, owner/founder of all
the Duncan Auto businesses in New River Valley, Roanoke Valley, and Franklin
County.]
