The following tribute is written by her son, Eric Ford:
Friday March 11, 2016 we lost our beloved Lea. Lea was a wife of almost 40 years, a mother of 2, and a grandmother of 6 beautiful grandchildren. She was a retired nurse and one of the most giving people I know. She loved her family and always, always just wanted to see them happy. She is missed terribly by us all.
Ona "Lea" Ford comes from a long line of military veterans dating back to the Revolutionary War. She is the daughter of a WWII veteran who served during the invasion of Normandy on D Day, the wife of a Vietnam Veteran, mother of a daughter who served in the Gulf War, and mother of a son who served 3 tours in Iraq and 1 tour to Afghanistan. Lea made herself very clear that when she did pass away that she did not want flowers to be sent, but instead any money that would be spent to go to an Organization that helps vets.
Lea Ford's ashes were scattered in Florida, but a memorial will be placed in the Layman Cemetery.
Some of Lea Wade Ford's ashes were placed in the grave of her baby brother Eric Wyatt Wade. No marker or memorial was placed there. (src: Find A Grave)
