Ralph was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 4th Armored Division, 12th Corp., 37th Tank Battalion having served May 1941 until October 1945. He was a member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD, and a member of the Jerry Skrivanek Post No. 8185 of Port Deposit, MD. Ralph was a retired mechanic for Aberdeen Proving Ground of Aberdeen, MD. Ralph is survived by his sons, William L. Sumpter, Gary Sumpter, Phillip Sumpter, Joseph Sumpter; son-in-law, Scott Wilson; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Morrison Sumpter; daughter, Judy Wilson; brothers, Oakley A. Sumpter, Sr., William L. Sumpter, Thomas E.
