Mrs. Ada Larue Tabb, 91, widow of the late Jim Tabb, former county commissioner, died yesterday, Jan. 26. Mrs. Tabb lived in Bay City for 77 years, in fact she and her husband lived in Bay City for two years before the city was actually founded. Mrs. Tabb is remembered for her complete devotion to youth and her church. She and her late husband had no children and devoted their living to helping the underprivileged and retarded children. It is said by her many friends that they helped many students attend college. They were instrumental in the development of the Scout House, as they worked closely with both the Girl and Boy Scouts. The Scout Lodge at Camp Pierce has been named Tabb Lodge in memory of the work they did with the scouts. According to a close friend, “Mrs. Tabb was always beside her husband in everything. Mr. Tabb was one of five founders of the Matagorda County Livestock Show and was one of the first original rice farmers of the county.” Mrs. Tabb was named as an honorary member of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of the many cakes she baked for the organization during their regular meetings. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church where she actively participated in all church activities. According to a close friend, “Summing up the character of Mrs. Tabb would be to say she was always involved in the church and with youth. She was a background person and kept out of public recognition, but many many people have benefited from her life.” The Daily Tribune, January 26, 1977 Mrs. Ada Larue Tabb Mrs. Ada Larue Tabb, 91, of Bay City died January 26, 1977 at Matagorda House in Bay City. Trobl
Ruth went
peacefully into the Lords loving
arms on Thursday, November 15,
2012.
She was the light
of our lives, the inspiration
for our deeds, our counsel when
we fell short, our coach when we
needed a push and always our
comforter when we were hurting.
She positively impacted
hundreds, perhaps thousands of
lives in her 73 years. Ruth said
what she meant and meant what
she said but always with our
best interests in mind. She
lived life to the fullest and on
her terms. If you knew her at
all then you knew the boundless
inner strength she possessed.
She cared and loved more deeply
than most of us will ever get a
glimpse of. Her great love and
tireless work for the seniors in
our community was legendary. We
loved her more than words can
say; we’ll miss her and think of
her every day until we see her
again.
Thank you Mom,
Grandma, Aunt, Wife, Sister, and
friend. As her children,
everything that is good in us
came from you, your legacy is
unconditional love and as always
forgiveness.
Ruth is following
these loved ones to the Lord’s
Kingdom: husband, Richard Trobl;
father and mother, Lester and
Loretta Elliott; oldest son,
Mark Johnson; granddaughter,
Brook Lemaster; sister, Elsie
Elliott; brother, Chuck Vanpool
and many other loved ones and
friends.
Ruth is survived
by: son and daughter-in-law,
Lester and Wendy Handley;
daughter, Jodie Youman and her
fiance David Splawn; grandson,
Dakota Goodman; granddaughters,
Lesley and Sheree Johnson;
brothers, Bill, Royce and Lester
“Bub” Elliott; her sister, Sandy
Vanpool; her nephew and
confidant, Bill Elliott; nephew,
Corey Elliott; her best friends
ever, Betty Elkins and John J.
Goodman, Jr.; plus family and
friends too numerous to list.
Memorial services
will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
November 21, 2012 in the chapel
of Green’s Mortuary with the
Rev. James Roberson officiating.
The family will greet friends at
