Searching for the name of a funeral home that would have been located in Defiance, Ohio in the 1950's. I think it might have been a family owned/operated business. The son might possibly have married a cousin of my father's. If I could locate the surname of the owners, I might be able to find a missing piece of my genealogical puzzle! Any information greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Searching for relations of the TINNEY, TROWBRIDGE, CAVERHILL lines. Addie TINNEY was born supposedly in Ohio in 1850 to John and Betsy TINNEY. This may not be her birth parents however, as I'm told Addie was adopted. The other surname given to me was TROWBRIDGE, but I don't know which is her birth name and which is adopted. She has a possible sister Mary TINNEY who married William CAVERHILL. A postcard from Defiance, Ohio in 1908 shows Addie is tending a sick sister there. The Auglaize ? and Maumee? Rivers are mentioned, so I imagine the sister lived near them. Would appreciate any info.

I am searching for any information on the HOVEY family that may have lived in Defiance County between 1820s and the present. My Great Grandfather Harry Huber HOVEY lived in Defiance until he died in 1991. I am particularly interested if a Frederick William HOVEY or his wife Catharine Wedersot are buried in Defiance County. They also lived in Henry County but are not buried anywhere in Henry County. Fred was born in 1821 in Germany and was still living in the 1900 census. Any help would be appreciated.

My g. grandfather was Joshua WILSON born in Defiance, Ohio. We have his birthdate as August 16, 1850. He died in Denver, Colorado in 1922. He married Adaline ECKERT May 11, 1876 in Defiance. They had two sons Clarence Delbert and John Henry, both born in Defiance. Also raised a Jenny TENNANT (either adopted or foster daughter). Here is my dilemma: Joshua WILSON was born to James WILSON and Mary FICKLE. Shortly before Joshua was born, James WILSON was killed in a steamboat accident down near Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. He had one, maybe two older brothers who went off to the Civil War and never returned (no names). After many years of trying to locate the history of James WILSON and Mary FICKLE, I have finally located her. We knew she had remarried John H. MADDEN. I located that marriage in Putnam County on November 5, 1857. Then I located a biography of John H. Madden in Mills County, Iowa. It listed Mary's parents as John and Rachel FICKLE of Perry County, Ohio. I have pieced together her siblings somewhat -- Eli, Joshua and John. Mary was born in 1833. That meant she was only 17 or so when Joshua was born in 1850 and one or maybe two older sons? That didn't sound logical. After digging out some old papers, letters, etc., I realized the following. Joshua claimed he was born in Defiance County and returned there from Iowa when he was grown. After examining his Colorado death certificate with a magnifying glass, his birthyear may possibly be 1856. Now that sounds more logical. Does anyone in Defiance County have access to marriage records? If so, is there a marriage in the early 1850's of a James WILSON and a Mary FICKLE (may be spelled FICKEL)? What about birth records? I need to verify Joshua WILSON's birthdate of August 16, 185? Was there a land record for a James WILSON? Does Defiance County have birth and marriage records back that far? Any help and/or info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for the Defiance County family of Oliver T. SMITH and wife Mary Catherine (Molly) BROWN. The family was living in Sullivan Twp., Illinois, at the time of the 1900 census. According to that record, Oliver T. SMITH, sometimes referred to as O. T. SMITH, was born in Ohio in December of 1861. Census data indicates that his father was born in Virginia, his mother in Ohio. Wife Mary Catherine BROWN, called Molly in both the 1900 and 1910 censuses, was born in Illinois in August of 1869. .Known children: son Ray McRinley SMITH, born Jan 1897 in Illinois; daughter Marjorie M. SMITH, born about 1903 in Illinois. Sometime between 1900 and 1910, the family moved to Ohio, the state in which Oliver was born, and were recorded in the 1910 census, Defiance County, Farmer Township, where Oliver was a farmer. Current information indicates that the family continued to live in Defiance County years after the 1910 census, and it is possible that descendants or collateral relatives still live there. Mary Catherine BROWN (Molly) was the daughter of Curtis William Brown and Manerva Price, my great-grandparents, who lived in Lovington, Moultrie County, Illinois. Thank you for your attention.
