LOCAL NEWS

Mrs. Peter HUFF, who has been ill, is reported as being some better.
Mrs Carrie LONGENECKER is improving her residence property
with a new dress of paint, the roof included.
Cement work is in progress this week on the new
basement being built under the Hugh RENZ home.
Wendell PORATH returned to his home near Pioneer Monday,
after spending a couple of weeks with his grandmother and aunt.
Dr. Geo. W. DeMUTH and family are out at their farm home on the Maumee river
on state road 24 for the summer, leaving their town home last week.
Mrs. Vinnie LaROWE, department Patriotic Instructor of the W.R.C.
and Mrs. Wilhimena VETRO of Findlay, were guests of
Mrs. M. Delle MOATS, Saturday.
Mrs Dora LAWRENCE of Findlay, and son James LAWRENCE
of Detroit, Mich., were visitors of Mrs. Lawrence's sister,
Mrs. Hattie VOSS and daughter Dorothy, from Friday until Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin WELLS of Ft. Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Walter ROLAND
of Garrett called at the A. E. LaVERGNE home Sunday.
Curtis HAVER of Toledo also spent a few days there.
Stanley MASON, who was seriously injured in an auto accident
a couple of weeks ago, was taken to his home near Farmer from
Defiance Hospital Tuesday morning in FULLERS' ambulance.
Mrs. Susannah JOHNSON, the aged sister, has been quite ill since last week.
On Monday morning for a time her condition was critical, but she seems to be
much better, though still in bed.
Jack AVEY of Keyser, W. Va. came Sunday for a short visit to the home
of Mrs. AVEY's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil MOHLEY and family.
Mrs AVEY and three sons, Jack, Jim and Joe, who had been here for some time,
returned home with him.
Decoration Day guests of Mrs. Sadie WORTHINGTON were her aunt,
Mrs. Eva MOCK; her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Earl MOCK, daughter Dessie,
and son, Huffert, all of Butler, Ind., and her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Walter MOCK,
daughter Donna, and sons Lavel and Mike of Hamilton, Ind.

OBITUARY - Mrs. ROSEBROCK Dies
Mrs. Marie ROSEBROCK, 74, widow of Christoph ROSEBROCK, died at 5 pm Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed BUECKER, route 1, Ft. Wayne, Ind., where she had been living since the early winter months. The body was brought to the FULLER undertaking parlors
here, and on  Wednesday morning was taken to her home east of the Disciple church.
Mrs. ROSEBROCK was born in Germany on August 6, 1860, coming to America in 1880
to locate in Okolona. In 1887 she moved into Delaware township. Mr. and Mrs. ROSEBROCK came to town from the farm about fifteen years ago, and it was at their home here that Mr. ROSEBROCK passed away in 1932.
Mrs. ROSEBROCK was the mother of thirteen children,
a daughter, Mrs. Alvena NAU, preceding her in death. The surviving twelve children are:
Mrs. Mary MEYER and Mrs Paul VONDEREAU of New Haven, Ind.; Mrs. Christian
RAHDERT of Ft. Wayne; Karl CHRIST and William ROSEBROCK of Sherwood; Henry ROSEBROCK of Preston, Md.; Mrs. Ed BUECHER, route 1, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Henry STALLBAUM, Toledo; Ernst ROSEBROCK of near Hicksville; George
ROSEBROCK, Sherwood; and Mrs. Edward ZARN, Toledo.
Mrs. ROSEBROCK was a pleasant, dear old lady, and was a neighbor and a friend of all.
Funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the home and at 2 o'clock
from East Mark Lutheran church, the pastor, Rev. J.W. ACKER, officiating,
with burial in the nearby cemetery.

 

OBITUARY - Death Claims Mother of R.E. FULLER
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Pleasant Mills, Ind., for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth FULLER, 79, mother of our undertaker, R.E. FULLER. She passed away Sunday at 2 a. m.

 

OBITUARY - Joseph SMITH
Joseph Nelson SMITH, son of Joseph and Mary SMITH, was born August 30, 1857,
and died May 24th, 1934, aged 76 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He was united
in marriage to Arminda J. BLAIR, April 17, 1882. To this union three children
were born. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Arminda SMITH; two sons,
Wesley SMITH of Cecil, and Elmer SMITH of Gibsonburg; one daughter, Mary
SAYLOR of Elsie, Mich.; one half-sister, Sarah HENDRICKS of Sturgis, Mich.;
5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic
order No. 620 of Sherwood and the K. of P. Lodge of Sherwood.

 

DEATHS
George J. SOLLY, 86, Civil War veteran, died Sunday in Defiance.
Funeral services and burial Wednesday afternoon.

 

Mrs. Emmett McCLELLAN of Garrett, Ind., formerly Bernice CORNELL
of Mark Center, passed away at Garrett Thursday morning. She leaves a
baby son born June 1, and was a sister of Mrs. Russell HOSLER, southwest of town.

 

Godfrey EHRAT, 74, died late Sunday afternoon in Defiance hospital, where a leg
was amputated on Saturday afternoon. Rev. Alfred GRETHER preached the funeral
service Tuesday at 2 p.m.  in the HOFFMAN-TURNER funeral home.

 

Mills DALRYMPLE, 78, who left his farm near Mark Center about six months
ago to rside with a son in Garrett, passed away there last Friday night of cancer.
Death occured in the home of his son, Don DALRYMPLE. Funeral services
were held Monday at 2:30 pm. at the Methodist church at Mark Center
with burial at Six Corners. Mrs. DALRYMPLE died in 1832.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Don, of Garrett,
Ervin and Mrs. Bertha FITZENRIDER of Mark Center, Welcome, of Dayton,
Mrs. Gladys TAYLOR of Ashtabula, and Mrs. Angie NELSON of Jefferson, Ohio.

 

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP NEWS
Verl ANKNEY, (John W.) DOUD's substitute, will carry the mail on route 2
after June 21, as DOUD's vacation period then comes on. POLLOCK's
substitute is Francis BRUNNER. POLLOCK has been a carrier since
February 1, 1913, succeeding J. S. CHAMBERLAIN, who retired at the age limit,
February 3, 1930, when route 3 was discontinued, being added to the other routes.
All these men are and have been good carriers, DOUD starting when he was 21.

Harley NOTESTINE's children are getting over the small pox,
he having recovered from his attack.
Billy UNSIKER moves from the CHAMBERLAIN house, corner Main and Jackson,
to the MOATS house on Banker's Row, vacated by E. D. WOODRUFF,
who moved back to Van Wert.
Edwin NEIDHART's little daughter, Kathryn, was taken last week
to Defiance Hospital for treatment for an infected heel, from a "cold abscess".

 

Fire Department Called to Two Small Fires
A small barn fire was destroyed by fire on the SPANGLER place,
the former KELLERMYER place, near the old tile mill,
after midnight of May 28th. The building was estimated at $75,
and with it were destroyed 360 two-weeks-old baby chicks.
The fire is supposed to have started from a brooder stove. The fire department
was called out.

Last Thursday afternoon about four o'clock an alarm of fire was turned in
from Cecil, where the Cyril AREND home was on fire. The department
responded to the call, but were stopped enroute, as the fire had been extinguished.
