LOCAL NEWS
Miss Betty Jean LANTZ spent last week with her sister, Mrs. George BAKER.
Miss Juanita SOHN has accepted temporary employment in Defiance at the office of Mr. R.R. CLYMER, county agent.
Paul VOSS, employed in an electrical shop in Detroit, was home Friday night ansdSaturday, coming home with F.H. MARLETT, the healer, on his regular monthly trip to his cottage in the Park.
Geo. MYER, North Harrison street, is improving his home with a new dress of paint.
Mr. and Mrs. George BAKER and family expect to move this week to Ney, where he is in the produce business.
Mrs. H.G. ROCK went to the country to visit with her sisters, Mrs. SHOOK and Mrs. DUNAKIN, Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Susanna JOHNSON, who has been ill about two weeks, seems just a little better, but is unable to sit up as yet.
C.M. KRETZER, principal, and Mary NEIDERHAUSER have been retained on the Delaware Hi facility. Fern LUCAS, teacher of Latin, is succeeded by Olive GRAY, of Bethel, Ohio.
Mrs. Addie BUSHONG quietly observed her 86th. birthday anniversary Wednesday, June 13th., in the home of her niece, Mrs. M. Delle MOATS, with whom she is staying.
Marshal A.L. STAILEY and wife are rejoicing over the arrival of their first grandchild. A son was born June 8th. to Mr. and Mrs. H.P. SPICER (Constance STAILEY), in Harper Hospital, Detroit, Mich. The little one has been named Hoyt Parmalee SPICER, II. Miss Frances STAILEY is in Detroit caring for her sister and the little nephew.
Floyd WARNER, Lewis HELLEMN, Taylor ENGLISH, Berton MOATS and son, Lowell, were at Detroit and Toledo, Tuesday, on a business and sight-seeing trip in both cities.
WEDDINGS
TOOLEY - ROTHHAR
Last Thursday morning, June 7, at 10:30 o'clock, Erma Marie ROTHHAR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs William ROTHHAR, became the bride of Clayton D. TOOLEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. William TOOLEY, Rawson, Ohio. The marriage was so emgized in the ROTHHAR country home north of town with Rev. Alfred GRETHER, pastor of the local Zion Reformed church, officiating, in the presence of the immediate families. WIGFIELD - LUCAS
On Tuesday, June 5th., at the Thorndike Hilson Chapel of the Chicago Theological Seminary, Miss Fern LUCAS of Paulding, Ohio and Rev. G.D. WIGFIELD of Warren, Indiana were united in marriage by Dr. Albert W. PALMER, president of the Seminary.
Mrs. WIGFIELD was graduated from Paulding High School in 1926 and from Defiance College in 1931. She taught three years in Defiance and Paulding county elementary schools; for the past three years she has taught in Delaware township High School, Sherwood, Ohio.
Mr. WIGFIELD taught in the public schools of his home county, Bedford, Pennsylvania. In 1928 he was graduated from Defiance College. He has been student pastor of Congregational Christian Church at Warren, Indiana. Both Mr. and Mrs. WIGFIELD have had graduate courses in the Chicago Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago.
They will reside in the parsonage of the Congregational Christian church at Warren, Indiana.
BROWN - HILL
Miss Gladys HILL of Columbus, Ohio and Bernard BROWN of Defiance were united in marriage Saturday morning, June 9, at 6:30 in St. Mary Catholic church, Defiance, by Rev. Cletus GATES, assistant pastor. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Donald HASSELSCHWERT.
The bride was attired in a light blue silk ensemble and grey accessories. She carried a crystal rosary, the gift of her attendant, and a bouquet of roses and peonies. Mrs. HASSELSCHWERT also wore blue and her accessories were white.
A wedding breakfast was served in the country home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred BROWN. After a visit with her parents near Columbus, they will return to Defiance to make their home. Mr. BROWN is employed at the Defiance Pressed Steel company.
OBITUARIES
I. E. SPITLER Dies Suddenly
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church at Ney for Irvin E. SPITLER, 72, Washington township farmer, who died suddenly Sunday of heart disease. Rev. Raul E. CHILES, the pastor, officiated. Mr. SPITLER passed away while lying on a couch in his home. He was found at 11:30 a. m. . He leaves his aged wife and one daughter, Mrs. Blake RICE, (of) Ney. Mr. SPITLER was a life long resident of this community, and seemed to be in good health. He was able to do his work around the farm, and it was a great shock to his wife when she went to call him to dinner and found him dead on the couch. We extend our sympathy to the wife and relatives.
Grace C. (MARLETT) LONG
Mrs.Grace C. LONG, 56, wife of F. E. LONG, 253 Bellfield avenue, Elyria, Ohio, died Sunday, June 3, 1934, at 7:35 a. m. at her home following a lingering illness. Mrs. LONG was born in Berlin Heights, Ohio, November 18, 1878. She had lived in Eliria for the past twenty-five years and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Besides her husband she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Elsie ELSTEN, three sons, Harold of Detroit, Paul of Cuyahoga Falls, and Glen of Elyria; three brothers, Frank MARLETT, Detroit, Michigan, William MARLETT of Elyria and Charles MARLETT of Middletown, Ohio and one sister, Mrs. Elsie HULL of Middletown.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the NICHOLS funeral home with Rev. E. J. BOND officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn cemetery. Grace was the daughter of Justin A. and Margaret MARLETT who for many years were located in Sherwood, Mr. MARLETT having a blacksmith shop here. The family moved to Elyria from Sherwood about twenty-five hears ago. The parents and two brothers are deceased.
Denver ERMAN
Friday afternoon relatives from here attended the funeral at the home of Ed ERMAN on the Evansport-Defiance road of a son, Denver, 18, who died from appendicitis.
Bernice (CORNELL) McCLELLAN
Bernice McCLELLAN (nee CORNELL) died Thursday morning at the Garret Hospital. Funeral was held Saturday at 2 o'clock at Garrett, and burial at Auburn cemetery. bernice was well known here, as this was formerly her home. The friends have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
Filmore LEHMAN
Funeral services for Filmore LEHMAN, a former Noble township resident, who died June 6th. at his home in Oklahoma City, Okla., were held there June 8th. Mr. LEHMAN was a brother of Mrs. E. F. PARTEE, Defiance, and George LEHMAN, Brunersburg, and an uncle of O. E. LEHMAN here.
SHADY NOOK NEWS
There were two new arrivals in this neighborhood early Monday morning. A ten pound baby girl arrived at the Chas. BURNS home, and a seven pound baby girl, Mary Louise, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Orvil BAIR in the Floyd MICK home. All parties getting along fine at this writing.
The Doctor reports a baby girl, Nancy Ann, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee FLEAGLE. Mrs. FLEAGLE was formerly Ethel LIMBAUGH. The Doctor is some busy man these days.
Chas. GUILFORD attended the annual reunion of the DOTTS family, held at Bowling Green city park, Sunday.
Dr. DeMUTH and family attended the baccalaureate sermon at Defiance College Sunday. Frank HARRISON was one of the graduates.
