1880 January 6, P. S. TRAVER was shot and killed by Mike Owens, at Candelaria, Esmeralda County. A misunderstanding in regard to a check in payment of services. Traver was County Commissioner of Esmeralda County. Owens was acquitted.

1881 April 10, Joe TURNER was shot and killed by Doc Callison, at Candelaria, Esmeralda County. Trouble over a game of cards. Callison was acquitted on the ground of self-defense.
