ALEXANDER, GARBER:
Just beginning research on two families that settled in Trenton circa 1900 from Russia: ALEXANDER and GARBER - respectively, the father (Benjamin ALEXANDER) and mother (Rose GARBER) of my father, Harold ALEXANDER, a lifelong Philadelphia resident. They were both born in 1898 and both, coincidentally, rooted in the same Russian community, Vilna, near the Western border. Rose, I am told, came here as an infant but her father, according to recently uncovered records, first arrived here in 1894 (haven't figured out how that's possible yet). Ben was born in Philadelphia, but raised in Trenton. I assume they all came here through Ellis Island but that's only a guess. And I've always been told that the name was not ALEXANDER in Russia, but was Anglicized upon arrival in USA. Rose's parents were Bernard and Bertha GARBER. Benjamin's parents were Joseph and Rachel ALEXANDER. If you can help, please contact me.
