COMPTON:
We are researching my wife's great-grandfather Ezekiel COMPTON, who apparently was born about 1838. Ezekiel was married in Princeton on July 4, 1864, to Catherine SNEDIKER, daughter of Issac J. SNEDIKER of West Windsor Township. He (Ezekiel) is listed in the 1860 Census in West Windsor Township as a farm laborer and seems to have served in the 22nd New Jersey Infantry in the Civil War. In the 1850 census, he is in Hopewell Township at age 11 living with the family of John and Mary TERHUNE. I suspect that the TERHUNEs may have been relatives of some kind. MEYER / MEYERS:
I am seeking information on Henry MEYER who lived in the Princeton area, now Mercer County. According to old family records, he served in the Revolutionary War. His daughter, Eva MEYER, married a James HOCKENBERRY (or a variation of that name ) after the war. They moved to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania (now Franklin County). Family records suggest that several brothers came to America from the Palatinate area of Germany at roughly the same time: Peter HOCKENBERRY settling in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and a Herbert HOCKENBERRY in the Princeton area. It is possible that James HOCKENBERRY who was born in the 1750s was the son or grandson of Herbert rather than Peter. A Casper HOCKENBERRY may be an intermediate generation as both James and Casper are common names in our family records for that time. I would greatly appreciate any help with one of our family "mysteries".

OLDEN, VOORHEES:
Trying to determine parents/ancestry of Elizabeth OLDEN, b. circa 1827 NJ. She married Martin VOORHEES in 1847, and they had two children: Cornelia and Martin. They are living in Princeton, Mercer County, NJ in the 1860 census. By the 1870 census, Elizabeth OLDEN VOORHEES appears to be head of household, still in Princeton. Her immediate neighbors are Charles Hart OLDEN on one side (son of Job Gardner OLDEN and Maria Brenton BOGGS; grandson of Hart OLDEN and Temperence SMITH) - and (ex) Gov. Charles Smith OLDEN (son of Hart and Temperence OLDEN.) This leads me to believe Elizabeth OLDEN VOORHEES is closely related to this OLDEN branch. Does anyone know who her parents were?

SPANEL:
SPANEL, Abram Nathaniel. Died: Princeton, NJ (Mercer County) March 30, 1985, DOB: May 15, 2001; Abe was born in Odessa, Ukraine. Obituary in: The New York Times. Tuesday, April 2, 1985. Abe's death was also profiled in: Time Magazine. Its summary is on-line. Abe bought the mini-mansion on Stockton Street in Princeton during the 1940s. By 1966, he sold it to the State of New Jersey. The current governor utilizes Drumthwacket as the offical residence. Princeton Township & Stockon Street in Mercer County has 08540 zip. I am the granddaughter of Abe SPANEL. Cross My Heart! Perhaps some of his former engineers at Playtex might recall details to Abe, or to his Ukrainian-Jewish origins. Perhaps they may share the days that Abe is said to have entertained Einstein, the German-Jewish kinsman, at Princeton. Does anybody remember the days that Abe invented the "I Can't Believe It's A Girdle!"? Perhaps some may recall the opening to the Playtex factory in Dover, Delaware. Perhaps some will remember Abe, and his parents, Hyman and Hannah SPANEL from Rochester, NY. Perhaps some may recall Princeton and Mercer County during The Depression! Live witnessess to the 1930s are welcome. Any info about Abe will be most appreciated. The person whom e-mails or corresponds with me need not be famous. I will value their memory, yes, even for people whom led humble lives around Abe. Anyone, of any age, having an interest in the SPANEL surname is encouraged to reply. You are encouraged to send me: your e-mail address, your snail--mail-address, or both. Nothing wrong with an envelope! I have Abe & Einstein's wild-wavy-hair! Update: Abram N. (A. N.) SPANEL died in Princeton on 03/30/05. He was the founder of Playtex. "The Son of Playtex," my father, David L. SPANEL, MD, also died in Princeton. Sadly I lost my dad last summer, in June 2004. Anyone whom remembers my dad or grandfather is welcome to contact me with memories or condolences. It is okay if a contact has a direct link: with Mercer County in-general, Princeton in-particular, or simply with the SPANEL surname.
