Archive.org is a free website that holds millions of documents related to almost everything, including genealogy and military service records (Revolutionary War, Civil War, and War of 1812). Note that most of the service records are microfilm files (available in different formats, including PDF), downloadable, but are very large files and not searchable.

Revolutionary War Service Records available for download.

Civil War Service Records available for download.

War of 1812 Service Records available for download.

Free to do lookups but record images and some other information may require a subscription. However, if you do not have a subscription, I do provide lookups as time permits. Contact me for assistance.

The Genealogical Research System, for GRS for short, is DAR’s online genealogical portal. Here you will find collections of databases DAR has made available online. These include our Ancestor Database, Member Database, Descendants Database, DAR Library Catalog, DAR Genealogical Records Committee database, The Revolutionary War Digital Library and corresponding index, and a couple of others.  The databases are arranged on separate tabs to make navigation easier. Tips for research are also included.

Fold3 provides convenient access to military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. It is a subscription-only service. However, if you do not have a subscription, I do provide lookups as time permits. Contact me for assistance.

The records at Fold3 help you discover and share stories about these everyday heroes, forgotten soldiers, and the families that supported them. On Fold3, you can combine records found on the site with what you have in your own albums and shoeboxes to create an online memorial for someone who served.
