If you have information on specific veteran(s), i.e., picture, biographical information, pension records, etc., you may send that to me and I will add a new page for your veteran(s). The veteran(s) must have been a part of a historical war prior to 1920 and must have a connection to Wythe County.

Below are sources for obtaining military records. As time permits, I am willing to do lookups on subscription-based Ancestry, Fold3, and MyHeritage.
The National Archives holds Federal military service records from the Revolutionary War to 1912 in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Military service records from WWI to present are held in the National Military Personnel Records Center (NPRC), in St. Louis, Missouri. See details of holdings. Visit here for Veterans Service Records and here to search by service branch.
Post-WWI regimental and unit records are primarily held at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland.
Fold3 provides convenient access to military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. It is a subscription-only service. However, if you do not have a subscription, I do provide lookups as time permits. Contact me for assistance.
The records at Fold3 help you discover and share stories about these everyday heroes, forgotten soldiers, and the families that supported them. On Fold3, you can combine records found on the site with what you have in your own albums and shoeboxes to create an online memorial for someone who served.
Archive.org is a free website that holds millions of documents related to almost everything, including genealogy and military service records (Revolutionary War, Civil War, and War of 1812). Note that most of the service records are microfilm files (available in different formats, including PDF), but are very large files and not searchable. However, I have found them very useful and you may, also.
Revolutionary War Service Records available for download.
Civil War Service Records available for download.
War of 1812 Service Records available for download.
Virginia Civil War Service Records of Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865
Ancestry.com is a subscription-based service if you require more than basic information, such as viewing document images. However, general searches are free.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has a searchable online Revolutionary War Ancestor Database. This database consists of Patriots the DAR has verified. However, there are also individuals in the database who did not serve in a military. Service records are not included but generally provide some service information.
Though the database is free to search, there is a cost for obtaining records copies of members and any supporting documentation (proof of lineage and in some cases, some type of military record).
The Ancestor Database is part of the DAR's Genealogical Research System (GRS), which is free to search.
