She was preceded in death by her mother, Lola V. "Ginny" Falls.
She is survived by her father, the Rev. Joseph P. Falls, of Floyd; two
sisters, Carol Sutphin and husband, W.J., and Cathy Cockram and husband,
the Rev. James; one niece; five nephews; and many greatnieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Gardner
Funeral Home with the Rev. John Chambers officiating.

Reverend Joseph Pleasant
Falls, 88, of Floyd, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was born on
July 28, 1925, and was the Pastor of New Haven Baptist Church from 1951
until 1991. He was the son of the late Josiah Daniel and Georgianna Gross
Falls. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Virginia Falls, one daughter, Joanna Falls, six brothers, Ted Falls, Odell
Falls, Joy Falls, Troy Falls, Winfred Falls, and Clarence Falls, and two
sisters, Betsy Williamson and Veatrice St. Clair. He is survived by two
daughters and their husbands, Carol and W.J. Sutphin and Cathy and James
Cockram; six grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Rhonda Griffith,
Tony and Sonya Griffith, Caleb and Shasta Sutphin, Tamara Sutphin Moses and
Karl Moses, Sean and Gina Cockram, Seth and Jennifer Cockram; fifteen
great-grandchildren Jacob Griffith and spouse, Brittany, Zach Griffith,
Philip Griffith, Anthony Griffith, Ethan Griffith, Easton Griffith, Case
Sutphin, Cruz Sutphin, Leah Cockram, Mya Cockram, Josiah Cockram, Ava
Cockram, Kaden Cockram, Maddix Cockram, and London Cockram; three sisters,
Shelby Gordon, Dolly Swartzel, and Elene Falls. Funeral services will be
conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at New Haven Baptist Church
with the Reverend Leon Wood officiating. Interment will follow at
Jacksonville Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Floyd
V.F.W. Post #7854 and Floyd American Legion Post #127. The family will
receive friends on Monday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at New Haven Baptist
Church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Condolences to the

daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and William Sutphin, Morganton, N.C.,
Cathy and James Cockram, Luray, Joanna Falls, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren,
Andrew Griffith, Tony Griffith, Tamara Sutphin Moses, Caleb Sutphin, Sean
Cockram and Seth Cockram; great-grandchildren, Jacob Griffith, Zachary Griffith
and Ethan Griffith; six sisters, Mildred Overstreet and Sharon Cheek, both
of Moneta, Elva Adair, Hillsville, Lena Mae Sligh, Lynchburg, Valleda
Dennis, Blue Ridge and Lucille Gergross, San Angelo, Texas. Funeral
services will be Tuesday, October 11, 19 94 at 2 p.m. at New Haven Baptist
Church, with the Rev. Leon Wood and the Rev. George Law officiating.
Interment in Jacksonville Cemetery. Mrs. Falls will lay in state at New
Haven Baptist Church from 2 p.m. Monday until service time. The family will
receive friends at the church Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Arrangements by

77, of the 4000 block of Shore Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in a
local hospital.
Born in Kenova, W.Va., he was a retired civil servant with 31 years of service
and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bayside Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, June B. Farley; three sons and their wives,
Willard W. Farley Jr. and Lee Ann S. Farley of Floyd, Va., Thomas R. Farley
and Tania I. Farley of Virginia Beach, David R. Farley and Patricia A.
Farley of Chesapeake; a sister, Betty Jean Watts of Borrego Springs,
Calif.; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church,
Floyd, Va., by Pastor Paul Pingel. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery,
Floyd. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel,
from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to one's favorite

4, 2002, at her home.
She was born on
March 27, 1912, in Woolwine, Va., and was the daughter of the late Walter
Edward Nolen and Melissie Ellen Nolen. Also preceding her in death were
her husband, E.L. Frazier; a sister, Clynda Nolen Ross; and two brothers,
Gordon Lee Nolen and Dalton Edward Nolen.
She was a graduate of Floyd High School and Radford State Teachers
College. She taught school in Virginia and North Carolina for 35 years.
A resident of Statesville since 1975, she was a member of the Bethlehem
United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Claris Nolen Roberson of Collinsville, Va.,
Alice Nolen Pilson of Hampton, Va., Clovis Nolen Gooding of Arlington,
Va., and Rose Nolen Bryant of Griffin, Va.; and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was buried at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, Va.

Joshua James Friel, 18,
of Floyd, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006.
Josh was an Honor student
at Floyd County High School. He was going to graduate this June. He
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was scheduled for deployment
in August. Josh worked with his grandfather James for the past few years
building beautiful decks. He had a passion for working with his hands and
creating beautiful things for other people to enjoy. He took pride in
everything he accomplished from schoolwork to watching his siblings to
creating decks. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, great-grandson,
uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. We all will miss him and his scientific
arguments each and every day. He was and still is greatly missed and loved
by all that knew him.
Josh was preceded in
death by his grandmother, Edith Friel. He is survived by his mother,
Colleen Wallis; sisters, Samantha Walser, Laura Friel, and "special
sister" Jamie Calabria; brothers, John Friel and Justin Kliovski;
great-grandmothers, Irene Schriefer, Sylvia Jean Huffman; grandparents,
Nancy and Ron Cross, James and Hazel (Phillips) Huffman; great-uncle and
aunt, Teddy Joe and Shelia Huffman; nephew and nieces, Rollen, Felicia, and
Nicholas, and special friend, Michael "B.J." Barrett; and
numerous extended family and friends.
A private funeral service
will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Graham Mitchell officiating with interment to follow at
Jacksonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made to Josh's mother, Colleen Wallis, 517 Rock Hill Church
Road, Floyd, VA. 24091, to cover expenses. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral
Home.
