Simon and Sarah Weddle were listed in the 1870 census in North Salem, Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. She was indicated as age 42 and Simon as as 39. There was a 13-year-old son, Joel, and two daughters, Mary, age 11, and Nancy, age 8, living with them. They were all born in Virginia.

His obituary from the November 9, 1922 Republican:

Simon P. Weddle, 91 years old of Brownsburg, died Thursday at the home of his son, Charles E. Weddle, in Indianapolis. Mr. Weddle was born in Floyd County, Virginia, May 8, 1831. He served three years with the Confederate army and moved to Indiana in 1867. He settled near North Salem and was a resident of Hendricks County until he came to Indianapolis two weeks ago. He is survived by six children: Mrs. Taswell Gill, Tokama [possibly should have been Tacoma], Nebraska; Mrs. Cassie Hunt, Montclair; B. C. Weddle, Brownsburg; Edgar W. Weddle, Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. Charles Herdrich¹ and C. E. Weddle of Indianapolis. The funeral is from the Baptist Church at Pittsboro today at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the K. of P. Cemetery at Lizton.

Information not verified but found on ancestry.com indicates that he married Sarah Thompson there on May 17, 1852 and that his parents were David and Catherine (Stigleman) Weddle.

¹ The great granddaughter of Simon and Angeline Weddle wrote to indicate that he married Angeline after his first wife died and they had a daughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Weddle, (who was her grandmother). Elizabeth's married name was Mrs. Charles Herdrich, not Hendricks (as was published in the obituary). Both Charles and Lizzie Herdrich are buried next to Simon and Angeline Weddle. Also, Amy Weddle, a cousin of Lizzie (Weddle) Herdrich's, is buried in this cemetery. 

Simon's son Joel Merrit Weddle married Amanda Reese Mahan, March 2, 1879 in Hendricks Co.,Indiana. They later moved to Richmond,Wayne Co.,IN. The 1910 census listed Joel as a widower. - MARCELLA HAMILTON MAHAN

Richmond — Simon P. Weddle, widely known local auctioneer, died suddenly early Friday morning. He resided at 1126 South Eighth street. Mr. Weddle, a resident of Richmond for 40 years, had been associated with several auction houses here. He was a native of Lizton, Indiana. 
Surviving are one son, Howard D. Weddle, Richmond; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Werts, Eaton; one brother, Woodson Weddle, Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Moorman and Miss Maude Weddle, Richmond; and two grandchildren.
He was past master of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held Sunday. Burial in Webster Cemetery.

The body of Benjamin C. Weddle, age 87, was interred, January 26, in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Brownsburg, following services from the Jones & Matthews Mortuary, there. Elder Sherman Essex officiated for the rites. He died January 24, in the Oak Park Manor Nursing Home, Lebanon, where he had been a patient for two years.

He was a retired farmer of the Brownsburg community and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Pittsboro.

Survivors include two children, Mrs. Thelma Smitha, Indianapolis, and Marion L. Weddle, Brownsburg; a brother, Edgar Weddle, Portland, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Bertha Weddle, wife of Benjamin C. Weddle, died at the Methodist hospital, Indianapolis, last Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Pittsboro, Sunday afternoon with burial at Brownsburg. Survivors with the husband are two children, Marion and Thelma Weddle, and a sister, Mrs. Effie Burns.

Thelma A. Smitha, 89, Indianapolis, passed away September 7, 2012. She was born November 1, 1922, in Brownsburg, the daughter of the late Benjamin C. and Bertha Olive (Nash) Weddle.

She married Wilbur L. Smitha on June 24, 1950, and he preceded her in passing in 1986.

She was a 1941 graduate of Brownsburg High School and continued her education at Central Business College. She was a bookkeeper for Prestolite Battery and the family business, Wilbur L. Smitha, Inc. for 50 years.

Thelma was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Michael L. (Denese) Smitha; two granddaughters, Emily Ann (Kevin) Ward and Anna Smitha (Trent) Hahn; four great grandchildren, Lexie and Allie Ward, Jake and Julia Hahn; and nephew, Melvin (Betty) Weddle.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Paul Weddle and Marion Weddle.
