I Mary Alice Reed, 52, of Christiansburg, passed away on December 22, 2008. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Clovis and Hattie Reed; and brothers: James Reed and Junior Reed. She graduated from Auburn High School. She joined White Rock Church of the Brethren on August 3, 1969.

Survived by: Significant Other Cleatis Sartin; Son Timothy Reed and Amy Begley; Daughter Kayla Reed and Fiancé Kevin Lucas; Grandchildren: Ezekiel Reed and Chloe Reed; Sister Faye West and Roderick; Niece Gina & Stuart Straub; Nephew Jason West; and other extended family.

Their Son: William Elbert "Bill" Quesenberry William Elbert "Bill" Quesenberry, age 80, formerly of Collinsville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Red Oak Manor, Rocky Mount. He was born September 21, 1933, in Montgomery County, a son of the late Toy A. and Lena Reed Quesenberry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Quesenberry, and a sister, Mary Jean McCoy. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was in the National Guard. He retired from Southland Life Insurance Co. as an agent with 30 plus years of service. Surviving are his son, William Dale Quesenberry and his wife Anita of Radford; his sister, Ann Allen of Florida, brother Donald Quesenberry of Maryland, step-children, Lisa, Donnie and Steve, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, in Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. J. D. Harmon officiating.

Their daughter Mary Jean Quesenberry Mary Jean Quesenberry McCoy Alls, of Showalter Center, left this earthly world after one of her many battles in life on October 11, 2006. She was born on February 16, 1936 in Blacksburg, Va., to the late Toy and Lena R. Quesenberry. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Joseph Quesenberry and a niece, Pamela Q. Stephenson. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and son-in-law, Rickie Jean H. and John Miller, of Christiansburg; three grandsons, Chris, Nick and Matt Hodge, all of Christiansburg; sister and brother-in-law, Ann Q. and Ronnie Allen, of Port Orange, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Linda Quesenberry, of Dale City, Va., Billy and Shelby Quesenberry, of Collinsville, Va.; and many nephews and nieces she cared for deeply. Tiberius Ulyssess Reed was born in Floyd County, Virginia, on January 27, 1884. Elta Belle Sheaffer was born on October 22, 1891, in Dallas County, Iowa. T.U., as he was called, and Elta were married on December 22, 1915, while each was studying at Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago. Four children, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren survive their passing.

In all their endeavors they worked together as a team with complete unity. T. U. was called to the Ministry of the Church of the Brethren in the Fall of 1916. He was a farmer and preached the Word of God as a volunteer. T. U. and Elta always assisted with the preaching and the work of the local church wherever they were living. T. U. was Superintendent of the Brethren Old Peoples Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, from 1925 to 1929, and served as pastor of the Iowa River Church also. T. U. served as pastor of the Indian Creek Church at Maxwell, Iowa from 1933 to 1936. While at the Indian Creek Church, Elta was called to the Ministry, was licensed, and later ordained here at the Panther Creek Church. 

Their life together ended after 54 years when T. U. passed away on Friday, February 13, 1970, followed closely by Elta on February 15, 1970, each unaware of the other's passing.

Eva York, 92, passed away peacefully August 9, 2010 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. 

Eva was born November 26, 1917 to T.U. and Elta Reed. On June 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Verle York. They were blessed with two children, Verla Jean and Verne. She was a farm wife and a friend to all. Eva loved to play cards, visit with everyone she came in contact with, and spend time with her family and friends. She was also an active member in her church.

Eva is survived by her son, Verne (Debi) of Adel; granddaughters, Susan (Murray) Ramsey of Earlham, Beth Boyle of Ankeny, Jennifer (Jon) Welker of Menlo, Jessica (Justin) Reynolds of Redfield; grandsons, Lynn (Darla) Boyle of Dexter, Doug Rex of Clive and Mike (Susan) Rex of Overland Park, KS; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Rosie Peters of Adel; brother, Walter (Dorothy) Reed of Vermillion, SD and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verle; brother, Cecil Reed; daughter, Verla Jean; and two grandsons, Keith and Brian Boyle.

Verle was born February 20, 1919, in Colfax Township in rural Adel, IA, to Fred and Ruby (Myers) York. Verle graduated from Redfield High School in 1935. On June 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Eva Reed. They were blessed with two children, Verla Jean and Verne. Verle was a self-employed cattle buyer and farmer. Most recently Verle had worked at Dahl's on EP True Parkway. He was an active member of his church. Verle loved gardening, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Verle is survived by his wife, Eva of Dallas Center; son, Verne (Debi) York of Adel; granddaughters, Susan (Murray) Ramsey of Earlham; Beth (Earl) Crouch of Des Moines; Jennifer (Jon) Welker of Dexter; Jessica (Justin) Reynolds of Redfield; grandsons, Lynn (Darla) Boyle of Dexter; Doug Rex of Des Moines; and Mike (Susan) Rex of Overland Park, KS; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carroll (Phyllis) York of Adel, IA.

Verle was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LaVerne; one sister, Marvel Deardorff; one daughter, Verla Jean; two grandsons, Keith and Brian Boyle.

Cecil L. Reed, 80, of Adel, died Friday, June 29, 2001 at Adel Acres Care Center of complications of a stroke. 

Cecil Reed was born in Poplar, Mont. He married Helen on Dec. 28, 1941 at Panther Creek Church. He lived in Osceola, Maxwell, Greene and Marshalltown,before moving to Adel over 60 years ago. He was a farmer and a cowboy, and a public relations representative for Raccoon Valley State Bank after his retirement.

He was a member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, Raccoon Valley State Bank Board of Directors, Adams Township Trustee, Rotary Club of Adel, American Quarters Horse Association, Dallas County Farm Bureau, Iowa Cattlemen's Association, past president of A-D-M school board, and a Sunday school teacher.

He rode the Mounted Iowa State Fair Patrol for over 20 years so he could blend his love of horses with his love of visiting with people.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Bonnie McElroy of West Des Moines; two sons, Bud L. Reed of Victor, Mont., and Harold Reed of Ft.Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Eva York and Rosie Peters of Adel; and one brother, Walter D. Reed of Vermillion, S.D.

Helen loved to garden and can fruits and vegetables out of her garden. Her specialty was baking pies. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Randy) McElroy of West Des Moines; sons, Bud (Marsha) Reed of Victor, MT, Harold (Pam) Reed of Ft. Collins, CO; grandsons, Matt McElroy of West Des Moines and Evan Reed; granddaughters, Shelby Reed and Kim Reed, Charmaine (Chris) Bisceglia, Caitlynne Reed; and one great- grandson, Kaden Reed all of CO.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Pearl Wagoner Bentall; and her husband, Cecil Reed.

Harvey B. Reed, 86, of Roanoke, beloved father, husband and friend died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in Roanoke, VA where he had been a resident of Brandon Oaks for the past year and a half. 

Harvey is survived by his daughter Ellen Burnett and her husband Ed Burnett of Roanoke Rapids, NC, daughter Malina Gaynor and her husband Walt Gaynor of Roanoke, son Brent Reed of Chester, SC; son Bradley Reed and his wife Vickey of Peterstown WV, brother; Harden Chrisley Reed and his wife Christine of Christiansburg, VA, and three grandsons; Clay Gaynor and his wife Becca of Washington, DC, Cody Burnett of Cape Verde, Africa and Will Gaynor of Austin, TX.

Harvey was preceded in death by his beloved wife; Lorene, daughter Dreama Lou Reed, his mother and father; Bettie and Molar Reed, his sister; Susie Reed and his brother Lincoln Reed. Harvey was a family man first and foremost. He was an accountant and comptroller in the automobile and trucking industries in the High Point and Greensboro, NC, area for more than twenty five years before moving to Seven Lakes, NC where he enjoyed a second career in real estate. 

Harvey was also a World War II army veteran; a 32nd degree Mason; a Shriner; an officer in the Order of Eastern Star; and an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed flying, boating and most of all spending time with his family and friends. 

The family will receive friends at The Horne Funeral Home, Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 12 noon till 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, in The Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Bob and Dusty Fiedler officiating. 

Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made in Harvey's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital or the Appalachia Service Project.

Henry Irvin " H.I." Moses Jr., CSM, USAR, Retired, born on 13, August 1918, passed away on 2 August 2013, at the age of 94 in Radford. CSM Moses resided in Christiansburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Irvin Moses Sr. and Mary Louise Moses; his beautiful "Peachy" of 70 years; his son, Henry Irvin Moses III; and a sister, Virginia Matherly. He is survived by his daughters, Ellen Moses Tompkins of Jacksonville, Fla., and Julia Moses Page and husband Marvin of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Russ Dudley of Fairplay, S.C., Jacqueline Dudley, of Roanoke, Henry Moses IV of Christiansburg, Joseph and Preston Tompkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Logan Collins, and Autumn, Alex, and Lily Tompkins of Jacksonville, Fla.
CSM Moses served in the 7th Army in the European Theater. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Story, then Ft. Sill, Okla., 780th Field Artillery. He served honorably and was a soldier's soldier. He retired after 49 years of service to his country from the USAR with the rank of CSM.
He maintained his military bearing all his life and was known for his positive attitude, drive, motivation, great humor and his ability to get things done. He believed where there was a will, there was a way.
He attended Virginia Tech where he met the love of his life on the tennis court. Their story was one of everlasting and true love.
CSM Moses was a role model to many and our hero. He served the Lord with all his heart, read his Bible daily, and encouraged all he came in contact with to accept Christ. He was a member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 12 noon at Christiansburg Church of Christ, with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with full military honors.

Mary Ellen Reed Moses, 89, of Christiansburg, passed away on her 70th wedding anniversary Monday, August 22, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, S.Q. and Eula James Reed; and son, Hank Moses. She is survived by her beloved husband, H. I. Moses; and daughters, Ellen Tompkins, Julia Page and husband, Marvin; grandchildren, Russ Dudley, Jacqueline Dudley, Joseph and Preston Tompkins, Henry Moses; and greatgrandchildren, Logan Collins, and Autumn and Alex Tompkins. Mary Ellen attended Milligan College and Virginia Tech, majoring in Home Economics. She was a member of the Old Guard of Virginia Tech and was a faithful member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother.
