1928 Death: 11-12-1928 Johnson Co., IA but of Lokota, Kossuth Co., IA

1928 Obits:

Abraham Lester, for so many years known by our citizens on the streets as "Uncle Abe", passed away at the hospital in Iowa City, Monday forenoon about eleven o'clock.
Our people were shocked to hear the news, but it was generally thought that Mr. Lester was in rather serious condition when he returned to the hospital the second time a week ago last Saturday. Death was due to phenomena which he contracted while under treatment at the hospital, but the deceased had suffered a great deal the past summer from kidney and bladder trouble. About two months ago he was taken to the hospital and responded to treatments and was brought home. He remained at home for three weeks during which he endured much pain and suffering. In company with his son Arthur, he again returned to the hospital where he passed away after a brave fight for life.
A figure like that of Mr. Lester who had become so familiar on our streets cannot be helped but be missed.
Of a congenial nature, he was always first to bid the passer a "good morning" and always entertained respect for his fellow man and neighbors which is a characteristic trait of our southern people.
Our "Uncle Abe" is gone. Mrs. Lester, the aged widow and all the children were present at the bedside when death came. His two sons, Art and John Lester, arrived here with the body Tuesday morning and the funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon from the M.E. church and the burial will take place in the local cemetery.

Another Funeral Obit
Abraham J. Lester, was born at Christianburg, Virginia, on April 25, 1856 and died at Iowa City on November12, 1928 having reached the age of 72 years,6 months and 27 days.
He was united in marriage to Callie Peterman in North Carolina on Feb. 27, 1873. To this union twelve children were born, six of whom have preceded him in death.
The family came to Kossuth County in 1898 and have since continued to make their home in this county, and near Lakota, with the exception of a couple of years farming in the Titonka neighborhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester retired from farming about sixteen years ago and made their home in Lakota.
The deceased leaves behind the widow, six children, Mrs. H.B. Ackers of Prole, Iowa, Clarence of Indianoia, Iowa, George of Titonka; John who makes his headquarters in Texas; and Mrs. T.C. Schaper and Arthur Lester of Lakota.

Harley & Lillie had 3 children:

Pearl May Lester, 1912-1914

Irene Lester, 1916-1983.

Harlena May Lester, 1918-1978.

Lillie married 2nd Ole Thomas Molan 2-26-1920 Algona, Kossuth Co., IA.

This is a loving memo on Ole: (src: Find A Grave)
Lillie Bishop married Harley when she was 16 yrs old. She loved him all her life. At the time, her children were 2, 4 , and 6 years old, Ole Molan convinced Lillie to marry him, because he didn't want to see her raise those little babies alone. I am proud of my grandfather because he took Harley's children and raised them like his own and is known for going to school on different occasions and telling the teachers "There are no STEPS in my family!!"- referring to his stepchildren that he never considered as such. Ole was the city Marshall of Swea City for 30 years, a religious and upstanding citizen . I mention this because Harley's people need to know that his children were LOVED!!!

He died of pneumonia. It is said that Harley was a hard worker. His last daughter was born on the day that he died. He had died before the baby was born and they didn't tell Lillie until the baby was born. The doctor named the baby Harlena and after Lillie found out that he had died she kept the name.
