William Henry Akers was in Co. H. 4th VA Reserves in the War Between the States. He and his son are buried in a field just off Daniel's Run on McNeil Hill Rd. William was married to Elizabeth Akers (Akers before her marriage. Elizabeth was born 9 June 1825 and died 6 April 1902 and is buried at the Wilson Cemetery in Floyd County, not too far from where William is buried. She is buried very near her daughter Susan Virginia Akers who was born 11 June 1857 and died 17 Jan. 1934. Susan was married to Robert Smith. Here is a list of the children from census records:

William A. J. Akers came to Texas in 1870 settling in Grayson County long enough to marry Sally Young. The couple moved to Young County in 1876, one mile west of Eliasville, Texas. This was open range, with lots of cattle and ranching interests. The Donnell brothers had extensive holdings around Eliasville. Bill Akers worked and cooked for the Donnell Brothers ranch. In 1881, Bill Akers homesteaded in the Komo Community near Tackett Mountain. In 1889, he traded his first homestead for a wagon and a load of corn, moving to Eliasville to put his children in school. Later, he homesteaded another section of land close to Tackett Mountain, and remained there until his death. To prove his claim, Mr. Akers planted a garden and cut brush to make a fence around the first claim. On the second homestead, he built a pig pen to prove his claim just in time to save it.
