Minnie L. Keeler Corse
The shade of sorrow was drawn across our community Monday and all mourn
the passing of one of our most prominent figures. No person can live in
a community twenty-two years and all that time be an important figure in
every civic work and not be missed and mourned. Minnie L. Keeler was
born in Montpelier, Vt., March 2, 1862. Seth W. Corse was born in the
northern part of the same state close to the Canadian border. Time
passed and they met, loved and were married October 15, 1885. For some
twenty years, they made their home in Montpelier and finally removed to
Collegeport where they have since resided. For forty-seven years, Minnie
and Seth have together walked the paths of life. Roses richly laden with
the perfume of joy and happiness have been plucked along the path.
Thorns have pricked at times as a reminder that life is not all
pleasure, but the path widened, flowers grew more abundantly, the
perfume of the joy and peace that comes with the fading years was theirs
in an abundant measure and so this day when Seth Corse has come to the
parting of the way, he may truly say that in the possession of this
woman and his life with her God has been lavish in His blessings. All I
can say after a friendship lasting all these years is a prayer that God
will receive into His loving care the soul of Minnie and that He will
watch over and hold close and enrich the soul of Seth who is left to
finish the journey.
This union was blessed with four children,
but two of them passed away early in life. The two daughters living are
Mrs. Charles E. Duller (Lena) of Blessing and Mrs. Major Lincoln Putman
(Pearl) of the U. S. army stationed at Manila, P. I. Ever since coming
to this community, Mrs. Corse has been an active participant in every
civic movement. She was a charter member of the Woman's Club and served
several terms as president. Past president of the County Federation of
Women's Clubs, delegate to the district conventions and delegate of the
state conventions. She was one of the women who organized the club
library and was faithful in her interest in that work until her last
day. She was also active in church and Sunday School work. Several years
ago, President Coolidge appointed her postmaster of the local office and
as such has given us splendid postal service. Always a leader in these
efforts, she was ever ready to advise with her associates and act as the
majority deemed best for the community.
With the passing of Minnie L. Corse, this
community has lost a dependable leader, so no wonder that we all mourn.
The funeral service was held in Blessing at the home of Mrs. Charles
Duller, with Reverend Ray of Palacios reading the service. The only
music was the singing of her favorite song Tennyson's "Crossing the
Bar." This was at her request. Something like forty autos brought
friends from all portions of the county and they came with hearts filled
with sorrow and sympathy. Interment was in the Palacios cemetery.
Requiscat in peace.
"Such souls
Whose sudden visitations daze the world,
Vanish like lightning, but they leave behind
A voice that in the distance far away
Wakens the slumbering ages."
--Sir H. Taylor.
Mrs. Seth W. Corse, of Collegeport, Dies
Mrs. Minnie L. Corse, age 70 years, 4 months, 23
days, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. E. Duller, at
Blessing, Texas, Monday, at 2 p. m. She is survived by her husband, Mr.
Seth W. Corse, of Collegeport, Texas, two daughters, Mrs. Chas. E.
Duller, of Blessing, Texas, and Mrs. L. F. Putman of the Philippine
Islands.
Mrs. Corse was born March 2, 1862, in Montpelier,
Vermont, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Seth W. Corse,
Oct. 15th, 1885. The family moved to Collegeport, Texas, November, 1910,
where she has since resided. She at all times took active interest in
the affairs of the community, even after her health was impaired. She
was president of the Matagorda County Federation of Women's Clubs for
two years, and an officer in her home Club numerous times.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p. m., at the
residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Duller, at Blessing. Rev. Carrol B. Ray
of Palacios, officiating, with a beautiful song service by Rev. Morrow
of Collegeport.

Boeker, M. V. Batchelder, L. E. Liggett and Jack Holsworth. Interment

Mary Frances Semingson
May 9, 1926 - November 13, 2016
Mary Frances Semingson, of
San Antonio, TX, went to heaven after a long and courageous battle with
Parkinson's disease.
Mary was born to the late
Arthur and Lila Morris, May 9, 1926 in Selma, AL. Mary graduated from
Parrish High School in 1944 as a four-year National Honor Student and
receiving a college scholarship. However, because she had met a handsome
2nd Lt. Army Air Force pilot, the late Mike Semingson and the love of
her life, who was expected to be shipped out to Africa, Mary decided to
forfeit college and obtain her Mrs. Degree by accepting his hand in
marriage. Mary assumed the role of an officer's wife with sophistication
and grace. The family including Rick, Jim and Pat enjoyed tours in
Alabama, Florida, Spain, Texas, Missouri and Turkey. Mike preceded her
in death in 1990 after 46 years of marriage.
Mary was very active as
Sunday School teacher, Scout leader, Garden Clubs, and volunteer work.
In 1967, she became an avid, accomplished golfer winning tournaments and
continued to play until rheumatoid arthritis took it's toil. She was a
veracious reader, an accomplished ballroom dancer and loved playing
Bridge.
Mary and her family traveled
extensively throughout Europe and later, after retiring in San Antonio
in 1971, she was able to take multiple cruises and trips.
Mary has been a faithful
member of Trinity Baptist Church for the past 36 years. She volunteered
in the preschool department, visiting the sick in hospitals and was an
active participant in Sunday school. Although unable to attend church
due to her debilitating disease, she continued to faithfully support her
church and watch the live web stream on the internet. Her tour of the
Holy Land, led by Trinity members, was one of the highlights and
spiritual enlightening experiences she had.
Mary's life was a miracle.
In 1962, while stationed in Madrid, Spain, she was in a very serious car
accident. She suffered critical and life threatening internal injuries
and severe facial lacerations. Although she was not expected to survive,
God's grace, many prayers and two years of surgeries resulted in her
miraculous healing and a rebirth of her spiritual life. Mary was also a
cancer survivor. She was preceded in death by, Chandler, her first
grandchild; daughters-in-law Beverly, Trisha and Teddy.
Mary embraced each holiday
with great enthusiasm and every meal a banquet including family and
friends. Her generosity of spirit, warmth and kind heart were felt by
all that came into her life. She fought the good fight of faith until
the end. Her faith never failed and she was at peace with God and
family. Her spirit now lives in heaven but her memory forever resides
with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and
grandmother. We miss her and look forward to spending eternity with her.
Well done, Mom. We love you!
Mary is survived by her
brother Tom Morris (Nadia), Meridian, MS; her sons: Rick Semingson
(Jayne), Austin, TX; Jim Semingson, Cabot, AR; daughter Pat Horner
(Gary), Kalispell, MT. Mary has passed her legacy to her surviving seven
grandchildren: Jason Spradlin, Brock Semingson, Sarah Tucker, Vanessa
and Joshua Horner, Judd Semingson, Lauren Dymna and ten great
grandchildren.
We, the family, would like
to thank all the care givers and staff at The Pavilion Great Hills and
Kindred Hospice in Austin, TX for their excellent care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on
Saturday, November 19th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Porter Loring on
McCullough with a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM in the Chapel. A Graveside
Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with her
beloved husband, Mike on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016 at 10 a.m.

JAMES WILLIAM SHUEY
James William Shuey
James William Shuey died Monday evening at
about eight o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Della Braden.
"Uncle Will," as he was known to all his
friends, had been confined to his bed for about two months due to a
heart attack.
He was a native of Nebraska, and came to
Texas in 1909 to make his home.
Deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs.
Della Braden of Blessing, and Mrs. Nelson of Collegeport; a brother in
Oklahoma; a niece, Mrs. A. R. Matthes, and a nephew, Paul Braden.
Funeral services were held in the Taylor
Bros funeral home in Palacios, Tuesday evening at four o'clock with Rev.
Gillespie officiating. The active pallbearers were Robert Thorp, Tick
Pierce, Albert White, Paul Wheeler, B. B. and Brownie Rhodes.
Among those attending the funeral were Mr.
and Mrs. C. E. Vawter and Tom Hale of Bay City, Mrs. Hugh Thompson of El
Campo, Mrs. Harry Cowger of Clemville, Misses Bernice and Jack Williams
of Markham. Blessing Correspondent
James William Shuey, was born near Nebraska City, Neb., Jan 7, 1873, and
passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Della Braden, in Blessing,
Texas, Oct. 12, 1936, aged 63 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Mr. Shuey moved with his parents to Kansas
in 1878. He came to Texas in 1909 and continued to make this state his
home, and was well and favorably known in the Blessing and Collegeport
communities. Besides the sister, Mrs. Braden, where he made his home for
some time, he is survived by one other sister, Mrs. Roy Nelson, of
Collegeport, one brother, S. P. Shuey, of Booker, Tex. He had been in
failing health for some time and confined to his bed for the past two
months.
Funeral services were held at the Palacios
Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. F. Gillespie,
assisted by M. A. Travis, of Alamo, Texas, an old friend of the family.
Burial was made in the Palacios Cemetery under the direction of the
Palacios Funeral Home.--Palacios Beacon.
It is hard at a time like this to express our feelings and our thoughts
in writing. Anything said or written would not be sufficient to fill the
place of a person so beloved by all his relatives and friends, and so we
can only try in our own inadequate way to express our sympathies to
those so bereaved at this great loss.
Will Shuey was "Uncle Will" to everyone,
young or old. When the occasion demanded, he was just as young as the
youngest or just as old and severe as the hoariest. In his long illness
he was always cheerful, ready to joke and laugh with any of his bedside
visitors, and though the last days of his life were spent indoors, he
made the most of it. He set an enviable example for those of us who
perhaps fear illness, and though a poor consolation, we are all thankful
that his passing was so very painless.
The memory of a man such as this is not
easily erased from the minds of those who knew him so well, and we
always will be able to recall the days when he was just old "Uncle
will," ready for anything and a real, "sure 'nuff" friend.--Blessing
School Paper.

Most importantly, Netina lived a life that reflected her love for God
and for her family. Her family remembers her starting every day with her
Bible and a cup of coffee, and taking the time to pray with them for the
needs in their lives. For the last few years of her life, she was a
member of Truth Church in Denison, Texas. She taught us by example how
to love God. She will be greatly missed – until we see her again in
Heaven.
Netina is preceded in death by her husband Chester Young, her parents,
Inez and Joe Frank Jenkins Sr., older brothers Joe Frank Jenkins Jr. and
Tommy Lawrence Jenkins, younger sister Jimmie Sue Clayton, and great
granddaughter Waverly Grace Martin. She is survived by her younger
sisters Thelma Nell (& George) Agnew and Ann (Jenkins) Reynolds,
brother-in-law James (& Joyce) Clayton, sisters-in-law Venus (& Tom)
Randolph and Dorothy (Jenkins) Krutilek, and by her 3 children: Sandra
Phillips, W. T. Wilkinson, and Tim (and Peggy) Wilkinson, plus 6
grandchildren: Jennifer (& Jason) Vickers, Jill Phillips, Julie (& Matt)
Burke, Ashley (& Chuck) Martin, Logan (& Taylor) Wilkinson, and Tyler
Wilkinson, plus 7 great-grandchildren: Morgan Taylor, Macy Vickers,
Emersyn Vickers, Carsyn Burke, Wrenly Martin, Evelyn Wilkinson and
Stella Wilkinson. She is also survived by step-sons Rick Young and Brian
Young, and their children and grandchildren, plus the family of Larry
Young – and by many other loved ones in the Jenkins, Wilkinson and Young
families.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00am Thursday, December
24, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am,

follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers are Logan
