George William Corporon and Suzanna Harding, later known as Anna Harding, were united in marriage on October 25, 1885, in Kansas. They both died in 1951, and were buried in the Palacios Cemetery. They were the parents of nine children: Gaines H., Ina P., Iona J., Lester M., George E., Ira M., Percy V., Richard L., and Reba L.
The family lived in Kansas until 1909. As one of the families who bought land from the Burton D. Hurd Land Company, they purchased 320 acres and moved to Citrus Grove. Later the Corporons owned only 100 acres. Times were hard, and it was difficult to operate as farmers and make a profit. Many of the families returned to their homes in the North, but the Corporon family chose to stay. The families that stayed gradually adjusted to the farming conditions of the Gulf Coast area.
One incident that stayed in the minds of Percy and Dick was the day they walked two or three miles from school, and left their one pair of shoes at the school house. It was Friday, and over the weekend a blue norther came in. On Monday morning the weather was freezing and ice was on the ground, and the boys had to walk to school barefooted. They learned a lesson, and never forgot their shoes again.
Four Corporon sons served during World War I--Gaines, Lester, Ira, and George. Gaines did not serve overseas because he became critically ill while in camp.
Gaines H. was a bachelor who lived to be ninety-six years of age.
Ina married Ted Howell, and, except, for visits, was never in Texas. They had no children, but took care of several foster children while living in California.
Lester also lived other places. He had two sons and died at the age of forty-eight.
George and his wife Lucile moved from Kansas to Texas in the 1930s. He farmed rice for a short time, and then moved to Lake Jackson to work for the Dow Chemical Company. They had two children, Dan and Shirley.
Ira M. married Carrie Jenkins and they had two boys and two girls: Bill, Chester, Ruby Lee, and Wanda. Wanda lived in California. Bill died in a tragic drowning accident in the Gulf of Mexico at Matagorda in 1970.
Percy V. married Luellen Fox and they had two sons, Duane and Larry. Percy and R. L. "Dick" farmed rice together for many years and were known as the "Corporon Brothers."
Richard L. "Dick" married Dorothy Crane and they had five children: Eugene; twins, Roy and Joy; Russell; and Weldon. Percy and Dick married girls who were natives of Wisconsin.
Reba married Ralph Fox, who was Luellen's brother, making Reba's two daughters and Percy's two sons double cousins. She married second, Herbert Price. Reba's daughters were Pauline and Margaret Ellen.
There were fourth and fifth generation children scattered over the United States, but several members of the Corporon family still live in the Citrus Grove-Collegeport area in 1984.

Gaines Corporon, the son of George Gaines Corporon moved west from Missouri in or about 1878, when his son G. W. was 12 years old. They moved from Black Bird Hill, Missouri, which is close to Kansas City, Missouri. Gaines Corporon married Susan Guffey in 1866. Their oldest son George William was 12 years old when they made the move to Grant Township, District No. 81, Osborne County, Kansas. Gaines ran away from home to fight in the Civil War when he was 14 or 15 years old. He joined the 8th Ohio [Iowa] Cavalry and fought with General Sherman in Georgia. They made several charges on bridges and held them until the infantry could catch up. He made his last charge when his horse got shot out from under him. His captain saw that they were about to be captured and sent out an Irishman to see how strong the Rebs were. His report was “Faith and Behold they are ten lines deep.” He made his last charge and the company was cut in the groups and so the captain ordered them to march by a well and drop their guns and ammunition down it. It was one of the hardest things Gaines had to do, he said, as he told the story to his grandson, Ira, when he was just a small boy. They were captured and taken to Andersonville Prison which was worse than war. They almost starved to death. He told of having to dig a well and trying to dig out of prison by digging a tunnel at the same time. They were digging and testing how far they had gotten by sticking a stick up through the ground. They made a mistake and stuck the stick up right in front of a colored slave one day. It almost scared him to death and of course he told the guard. Another time he told of wanting a drink so he went to the pond they were using for all the camp which was very dirty. He was told to not cross over a rope they had there to mark the spot so he was reaching just as far as he could and he slipped and fell into the pond. The guard saw him and raised the gun like he was going to shoot. Gaines was afraid that was it but the guard told him, “Go ahead and get a drink son I won’t shoot you.” Gaines escaped Andersonville Prison when he was out on a rail-repair duty. They were working on the tracks when they heard the Union Army getting close to them so the Rebs began to tell them to get on the hand cars. Gaines was on the ground in poor condition and he started to get up but the old man he was with told him to just stay down. He kept saying to Gaines “you know you aren’t able to go.” Finally he did understand what the old man was trying to tell him so he did just stay. They were found in such bad shape the doctor began to give orders for each one to have just so much food or medicine. They were so starved. They were sick and louse infested and sick of seeing their friends die. Gaines made his way home and married Susan Guffey who’s sister married a man by the name of Tom Newberry. This family also went to Kansas when Gaines and Susan did. Ira Corporon remembers the Newberry family even when he was a boy. Gaines told of moving to Kansas with a team of mares with a colt each. His boys G. W. and John would get on their backs as they nursed and sit on them again to begin breaking them to ride. One mare died on the way west and Gaines held the tongue of the wagon and pulled while the boys pushed the wagon to the next town to get another horse. The two colts were traded to a man for another homestead when they arrived in Kansas. In Kansas they lived on a homestead in a long sod house and as the children came along he just added on to the house to make it longer. He finally built a real good house with a cellar, frame and floors. He was the father of 10 children. His oldest son, George William married Susanna E. Harding in 1885. They were the parents of nine children, one of which is Ira that was mentioned in this story. Their children attended the Liberty Bell School House near Alton, Kansas. Ira remembers listening to tales of his Grandpa Gaines as he told them to the children.
