Mrs. Rebecca Miller
Rebecca, daughter of David and Ruey Core Miller, was born in Sulpher Springs, Crawford County, Ohio, March 11,1854, and died August 2, 1926, aged 72 years, 4 months, and 21 days. In her early life she removed with her parents to Defiance County. In 1877 she was united in marriage with John J. Miller, to which union were born 7 children, Curtis W. Elmer A., Melbern A., Ada L., Etta F., Mabel and W. Wayne. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Miller removed to Washington Territory, where they endured five years of hardships in a sparsely settled, undeveloped country. Here levies were constructed to resist flood waters, during the wet season, and row-boats were tied to doorsills to be used on the premises for expediency. The nearest white neighbor living 4 miles from the newly constructed home, and at periods of half years each the face of no white woman would be seen. These conditions necessitated their return to the native state of Ohio. Upon their return the family located east of town [Sherwood], where they lived until they removed to the North Harrison street property in Sherwood in 1922. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Sherwood Reformed church in which the funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev. Robrock. Mrs. Miller leaved to mourn their loss the husband, four sons, three daughter, eighteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Julia Crookton and one brother, William H. Miller.

[The following obituary does not have a date, but was printed in the Sherwood (OH) newspaper.]
John J. Miller
John J. Miller, son of Jacob and Verona Miller, was born in Defiance O., Sept. 23,1854. Most of his life was spent in Defiance and Sherwood and vicinity, although for a number of years he lived on the West Coast. He was well know in this section, where, for many years before his retirement, he had lived on a farm. Having been received into Zion Reformed church he, even in his advanced age, attended the services frequently as a devout worshipper. He was a member of the K. of P. Lodge. Three sons and three daughter, all of which survive, were born to him by his wife, Rebecca. She died Aug. 2, 1926. His second wife died in Defiance hospital, March 25, 1933. Many months ago, Mr. Miller, because of this weakness of old age, entered the Essex Convalescent Home in Defiance. His health and strength steadily declined and at 1030 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1, he peacefully fell asleep at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 9 days. Surviving are three sons, Curt and Wayne Miller, both of Sherwood, and Elmer Miller of Napoleon; three daughters, Mrs. Ada Mohley, Sherwood; Mrs. Mabel Lichty, Bryan; and Mrs. Etta Woodring, Cecil; a brother, Charles Miller, Bryan; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grand children. HIRONIMUS NEADERHAUSER 1841 - 1920
Hironimus Neaderhauser was one of the pioneer farmers of Northwestern Ohio. He died at his home in Defiance, Ohio, corner of Nicholas Street and Wabash Avenue, Monday November 8, 1920. He was born near Berne, Canton Berne, Switzerland, February 1, 1841. He reached the age of 79 years, 9 months and 7 days. He came to America with his parents when 10 years age. A little sister of his was buried in mid ocean on the stormy voyage in this sailboat of that era. He located with his parents in Tuscarawas County in the historic settlement of the Moravians. He later moved to Wabash County, Indiana, where he resided until 1861. He then returned to Ohio, locating at Belmore, Putnam County. In the Civil War he proved his devotion to his country by enlisting in Co. D, 57th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry. April 4, 1867, he married Miss Catherine Helmick of Noble Township, and settled in Tiffin Township in the Banner school district, which was then a wooded wilderness. But the products of the woods paid for the 200-acre farm on which he continued to reside for over half a century. Seven children came to gladden this home, three of whom preceded their father in death. Warren F. in 1878, Edward w. in 1905, and Frederick D. in 1912. With the sorrowing companion the following children survive John H. of Tiffin township, Samuel W. of San Diego, Cal, Miss Mary E. of Defiance, and Alice, wife of Robert Wear, Yunnan, China. There are nine grandchildren living. One sister and one brother survive namely Mrs. George W. Schooley, Howard, Ohio and John R. Neaderhauser of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. For nearly 65 years he was a loyal member of the Evangelical church. He was one of the founders of the Salem church and for 50 years served continuously as president of the local Board of Church Trustees. He served in every official capacity of a church layman. He was a staunch supporter of temperance and civic reforms. It was in 1864 that he cast his first presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln. He never afterward lost an opportunity to vote for the principles of that ideal American. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, November 10 at the Salem church. The comrades of Bishop Post of the Grand Army of the Republic of which the decease was a loyal member had charge of the services. Rev. D. R. Heil, his pastor, assisted by Rev. T.G Erier and Rev. D.D. Speicher, preached the sermon. Interment was made in the Noble and Tiffin cemetery. He now rests in the little cemetery by the bank of the Tiffin River where for more than a quarter of a century he decorated the graves of his departed comrades on every Memorial Day. We desire to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all our friends and neighbors who so kindly aided us with help and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father. Especially do we wish to thank the members of Bishop Post of the Grand Army for their kindly assistance in our bereavement. (Mrs. Catherine Neaderhuaser, John H. Neaderhauser, Samuel W. Neaderhauser, Mary E. Neaderhauser)

Ann Gurwell Partee
Ann Gurwell was born in Crawford county, Ohio, August 19, 1823, and removed with her parents to Williams county when quite young. November 19, 1841, she was married to George Partee and settled in Tiffin township, this county, in which township they lived until the time of her death, which occurred at her home February 13, 1894, aged 70 years, 5 months, and 24 days. There were ten children born to them, six of whom, with the aged husband and ten grandchildren, still survive her. She was converted to the Christian faith when but sixteen years of age, and throughout her long life endeavored to train her family in the truths it teaches. Neither has her labor been in vain. For the past twenty years she has been a member of the Church of God. Rev. Hunter, of that church, from Ney, preached the funeral sermon from the text Isaiah 40 8. February 19, 1891, Mrs. Partee received a paralytic stroke in her right side, disabling her almost entirely and rendering all speech unintelligible. From this time to her death she was practically helpless and a great sufferer, only partially relieved by a free use of opiates. All that could be done by a loving family and friends was done to care for the patient sufferer, the loving ministrations of her daughter-in-law, Mary, deserving especial mention. Since coming into the home about two and a half years ago, she was a constant and untiring nurse, watchful and careful of every need day and night. Together with the aged husband she waited by the bedside, and bore the care and duties of the household, and when the death angel came in the early morning was watching alone. "Aunt Ann", as she was familiarly called, had herself been a welcome guest in the room of many in sickness and suffering, and when her own time of departure came, she painlessly sank to rest. She simply ceased to breathe and was not. During all her long sufferings, nearly three years, the Bible was her constant delight and her wish to hear it read was freely gratified by her attendants. The funeral occurred the 15th day of the month from her home and was attended by a large company of sorrowing relatives and friends who yet "sorrow not as those who have no hope." The interment was in the Buck cemetery west of Evansport. The white-haired husband, aged seventy-five, who the same week also suffered the bereavement of a brother, awaits the summons to join her on the eternal shore of that country where sorrow and separation do not come.
