I have been researching my Eastport,
Washington, ME Harrington line for a number of years and have recently
discovered a possible Sagadahoc Co, ME connection. My direct line in Eastport is
as follows:
Andrew Harrington/Herrington I and Jane Frost Andrew Harrington
II and Abigail Clark Andrew Harrington III and Phoebe Ann Herrington (aka Phoebe
Keyes), b 1805 John Bent Harrington and Annie Augusta Capen Fred Alexander
Harrington and Mollie Pope Cushing Ralph Alexander Harrington and Melitia Edna
Silver Janet Ruth Harrington and Kenneth Francis McKeever me
VRs published in
the Eastport Sentinel list the marriage of Andrew Herrington and Phoebe Ann
Herrington; however, I have received information that she may be named Phoebe
Ann Keyes. The children of Andrew and Phoebe were apparently named for members
of the Jonas Temple Keyes family; i.e.,:
1. Israel Keyes Harrington (first
son named for Jonas' father or brother)
2. Cornelia Bush Harrington (after
Jonas' sister Cornelia Bush Keyes)
3. John Bent Harrington (after Jonas'
son-in-law John Bent, who married Dolly Temple Keyes)
Thus, I have been
researching the Keyes family records to verify that Phoee Ann was either a
sister, dtr, or niece of Jonas Keyes. A FTM webpage lists a Nancy Clary (b 20
Feb 1783 Georgetown, Lincoln, ME; d aft 1870), m1 Joseph Herrington 8 Jun 1803
Georgetown, Lincoln, ME; m2 Jonas Keys 26 Mar 1812 Eastport, Washington, ME; m3
Thomas Harriman 15 May 1815 Nobleboro, Lincoln, ME. My theory now is that Phoebe
Ann was the d/o Joseph and Nancy (Clary) Herrington and that Nancy was either
widowed or divorced when she married Jonas T. Keyes. Nancy appears to have had
one child with Jonas, Dolly Temple Keyes (b Eastport, ME). Nancy appears to have
divorced Jonas, as his death date is 1831 in Eastport. I speculate that Jonas
then raised Dolly (his natural dtr) and Phoebe (his step-dtr) and that may
explain why the family refers to Phoebe Ann Herrington as Phoebe Ann Keyes.
I
tried to email this question to Janet Heck, who is listed as researching
Harringtons; however, it was returned as undeliverable. If anyone reading this
list has a Joseph Herrington/Harrington in their records, b abt 1780 and married
Nancy Clary of Georgetown, ME would respond, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for
information on the family of Reuben (b c1770) and Betsy (Bridges) Higgins of
Bath, ME. The 1800 census of Canaan (Back settlement of Ducktrap later named
Lincolnville), ME identifies Reuben's place of origin as Bath; along with James
Higgins, who is believed to be his brother and is also cited in other sources as
"of Georgetown." Both Reuben and James later appear in "A Genealogical History
of Morrill, Maine" as having settled in that area. It is believed that Philip
Higgins of Eastham, Barnstable, MA, who settled in Bath, is the ancestor of most
of the Higgins families in that area.
I am trying to bridge the gap between
Philip and Reuben and have reason to believe that Philip's oldest son, Benjamin
(b c1749 Eastham, Barnstable, MA; d 9 Oct 1823 Camden, Knox, ME) is the father
of Reuben. Probate records show that Philip left his property in Bath to his
second son (Reuben, b c1750 Eastham, Barnstable, MA, d 3 Sep 1829 Bath, Lincoln,

names of the children of Benjamin and Sarah (Sally) (?) Higgins. I would

I live in RI and would appreciate someone within the City of

information on my great-grandfather, George Joseph Fortin.
George Joseph
Fortin, b 27 Apr 1859 Bath, s/o Jean Hector and Marie Rosalie (Chouinard) Fortin
(both b Canada). I would like to obtain a copy of his birth certificate. An
added benefit would be to identify other family members from the area.
George
lived in or near Bath until he married (at age 36) his 3rd wife, Amanda Kirouac
on 26 Aug 1895 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Lewiston, ME. I have not been able
to confirm whether he married his first cousin, Helene (Lena) Fortin on 14 May

Louise (Cote) Fortin and had two unnamed sons (b 1892 and 1894) who most likely
died (unconfirmed). I would like to identify his first two wives.
Can anyone

I am a descendant of
Stephen Mann (Dana Rowe, Irving, Arthur, Irving, Joseph E., Elisha, Leona Mann,
Stephen) and Michael McMahon. Stephen Mann m Susannah McMahon (both of
Eddington, ME), d/o Michael and Thankful (Horton) McMahon. Apparently both
Michael and Thankful came from Georgetown, ME, according to an excerpt in the
Bangor Historical Magazine (later known as the Maine Historical Magazine):
Michael McMahon was b 1741 Georgetown, ME, prob s/o Terrence McMahon (a soldier
in the French and Revolutionary wars). Michael m 1763 Thankful Horton and is
said to have settled at Eddington Bend (on the Penobscot River) in 1770. In the
spring of 1771, he, Stephen Bussell, and David Rowell were running a boatload of
fish over Gardner Falls (near Georgetown) when the boat swamped and McMahon and
Rowell were drowned. Children were probably:
1. Nathaniel, b 17 Jun 1708,
Dunnells Island, Kennebec River, ME, went to Eddington with his father and
settled there, m 20 Mar 1800 widow Nacy Wild Clapp -- 5 ch
2. Hannah (unm.)
3. Susannah m Stephen Mann of Eddington -- 9 ch (see lineage below)
4.
Joanna, b. 28 May 28 1773, m 14 Dec 1794 Samuel Turner of Brewer, ME; he d 5 Oct
1837 (age 82 yrs); she d 4 Oct 1850 (age 77 yrs) -- 6 ch
5. Elizabeth, m
David Burton of Eddington; tragically, she and her only child both drowned
crossing the ice at Reed's Ferry
Of all the children of Michael and Thankful,
only Nathaniel had issue with the surname McMahon:
1. Nathaniel (of
Eddington) m Hannah Spratt -- 6 or more ch
2. Samuel Wild (of Eddington) m
pub 26 May 1833 Lydia Aldrich -- several ch
3. Thomas D (of Eddington) m Mary
Spratt -- 5 or more ch
4. Asahel Wild, b 22 Mar 1810 (of Eddington) m1 4 Sep
1832 Lydia Rowell (of Greenbush); m2 1840 Elisabeth P. Aldrich -- 2 ch
5.
Abigail m Lawsuon Woodbury of Eddington.
Does anyone have any information on
the drowing of Michael McMahon or David Rowell or on the parents of Michael
McMahon or Thankful Horton? I'm trying to establish a link from Michael back to
the McMahon family of County Clare, Ireland, which would connect the McMahon
family in ME with the O'Brien family (descended from the Irish king, Brian
Boru).

Grover family, York, ME c1700-1770. I
am trying to answer several questions about the Grover family of York and then
Bowdoin in the early 1700s. These questions are: (1) Who were the parents of
Andrew Grover (n c1760) who later moved to Bowdoin? (2) Who did this Andrew
Grover marry? (3) Was he the son of Andrew Grover and Carenhupuck Newell?
Perhaps someone could tell me where to get the appropriate vital records.
Thanks.

I have a g-g grandfather, James Pratt, b
abt 1800 in Bowdoinham. He moved to Philadelphia where he married and had one
son, William A. in 1845. I have no clue as to James' family and would
desperately like to receive some direction from someone on identifying such. He
was a seaman and from his Seaman Protection Certificate he was 5 feet 5-1/4
inches tall with hazel eyes and dark brown hair; light complexion, a small scar
on his forehead, a white mark on his left cheek, a scar on the back of his right
hand, two scars on his right leg and a dimple in the chin. Surely, someone must
recognize him!!
