Prince George's County was originally divided into six "Hundreds" (districts): Collington, Mattapany, Mount Calvert, New Scotland, Petuxant, and Piscattoway.

1800-1848
When Congress took over the District of Columbia in 1800, Columbia Hundred ceased to exist, Rock Creek and Oxon Hundreds were significantly reduced in size and Hynson lost its northwestern corner. The state's efforts to abandon the use of hundreds with a succession of laws passed between 1798 and 1847 was met with resistance in Prince George's County. It was not until May 1848 that Prince George's County appointed supervisors of roads to election districts rather than hundreds. This change marked the end of hundreds in Prince George's County.
