Notes for CARL EMMETT REEDER:
Blue Springs was incorporated in 1909 1920 census places birthdate at
1882. He was a postmaster and ran a small store at Kelly, Al. near
Newton, Al. in Dale County.  the train stopped at the rear of his
store and they exchanged mail pouches.  This may have sparked an
interest in trains as he got a job with the Atlantic Coast Line
Railroad and moved to Waycross, Ga. in 1918.  He came to Waycross
alone, but never rented a room but slept wherever he could at night to
sve money to bring his family from Alabama.  He was here only a short
time before the rest of the family came, according to his daughter,
Helen Reeder Lachowsky.
The Reeders lived on Margaret Street until he built a house at 1315
Jane St. about 1924.
He was the conductor on a freight train and was killed at Dupont, Ga.,
near Waycross, when he slipped and fell under a train.  He was a Mason
and a Baptist.
Twyla Wilkinson Munn remembers seeing him in his dark blue conductors uniform with gold buttons, grip in hand, getting off the train when her mother (Aunt Mary) picked him up.  He would be working on the train from Waycross to Dothan, then ride as a passenger to Brundidge where Aunt Mary and Twyla met him at the station.  She told me this in a Jan. 19, 1998 telephone conversation.
