and my dad. The old Jack Wise homestead was a few miles out of Victoria.
My mom and we, all enjoyed visiting them there."

"Jesse Virgil Wise, better known as Granddaddy, first married Lucy Ella Chapman.
They had eight children. Ella died trying to give birth to the ninth. He then
married Dora Russell and had four children. One died as an infant. Jesse moved
his family to Texas for a couple of years, but returned to Alabama and eventually
settled in Columbus, Georgia. He died at the age of 92.

"In early marriage they homesteaded forty acres on Double Bridges Creek,
in Geneva Co., AL near Spears, AL, or about midway between Samson and Geneva
and north of AL Highway 52. Three or more of their children were born at
that home.
"Then they made a succession of moves, remaining at each place for varying
periods of time - first to Lytle, AL, then to "Holley's Place," on Pea River
six miles southwest of Samson, AL. They moved to Black, AL on January 1, 1918,
lived there about four years. Moved to "Bridges Place," near Black, AL, then to
Austin's Place, (living in the same house that Aunt Clea Brooks lived in when
she passed away - south of Black about 1 to 1 1/2 miles across the FL state line),
then lived in two or more other places in area of Spring Creek / Johnson Farms,
between Black and Geneva, AL, then moved to Monroe Paul Place, southwest of
Bethlehem School in Holmes Co., FL where they were living when both died."

"My dad installed machinery in cotton mills in Thomaston, GA. One was the
Martha Mill in Silvertown. I believe that mill was to manufacture fabrics for
Goodrich Tire Company, or maybe it was Goodyear Tire Company. The company
furnished us a house. We traveled around where the companies were building
these plants (cotton mills). My dad would oversee the installation of the
machinery, then we moved on to the next installation. Dad was always being
offered good jobs here and there, so we travelled all around. Mail carrier,
bridge builder, sewing machine salesman in South Alabama. From Troy, AL to
Columbus, GA, to Thomaston, to Cedartown, to Rockmart, to Cloverdale, AL and
back to Norfolk for the third and final time, in 1933."

'til morning. Dad rented one room at the hotel. Mom told him if that was all the
respect he had for her, just take her back home. He told her, 'I was just testing
you out,' and went and rented a second room. It keeps coming into my mind that
Judge Rowe married them. Wish I could be sure."
