Pinal County Towns and Cities

Pinal County (map below) was formed from parts of Maricopa and Pima Counties on February 1, 1875, during the Eighth Legislature. According to US Census Bureau estimates in 2019, the county population was 462,789 and designated as Arizona's third-most populous county. The county seat is in the town of Florence. Cotton, vegetables, and fruit are major agricultural products farmed in the county.

Parts of the Tohono O'Odham Nation, the Gila River Indian Community, and the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, and the entirety of the Ak-Chin Indian Community are located within Pinal County boundaries of 5,374 square miles. They occupy 23% of the county.

There are several mountain ranges in Pinal County, the most well-known being the Superstition Mountains. Superstition Mountain, near Apache Junction, is federally designated as Superstition Wilderness Area, a popular recreation destination. The famous Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine is believed to be located in the Superstition Mountains and each year people search for the mine. Some have died on the search. The "old-timers" say that anything that survives in this desert wilderness either sticks, stings, bites, or eats meat! At the foot of Superstition Mountain is the ghost town originally known as Goldfield, now known as the Goldfield Ghost Town where tourists gather to witness an old west gun fight, walk down Main Street and explore shops and historic buildings. Today you can even experience a zipline, take a scenic train ride or an underground tour of the old gold mine, and more. In the 1890s Goldfield had 3 saloons, a boarding house, general store, blacksmith shop, brewery, meat market, and a school house. When the gold mine ran out, the people abandoned the town.

The cities and towns listed on the left are linked to their respective government websites. Other Pinal County unincorporated areas, some being census-designated (indicated with *), are grouped at the bottom. This list is not all inclusive.
