UNFLINCHING COURAGE by Adele B. Westover and J. Morris Richards - (Available to borrow and read online at archive.org. You must log into your free account to "borrow" and read the book. The entire book is available at Ancestry.com if you are a subscriber.) Adele Bushman Westover was a genealogist and compiler of most of the material in this book about the history of Joseph City, Arizona and its people--factual and exact. Joseph City is located in Navajo County on Interstate 40 between Winslow and Holbrook. It was settled in 1876 by colonists who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is the oldest Mormon settlement on Route 66.

ORAL HISTORY STORIES OF THE LONG WALK Hweeldi Baa Hane' by the Dine' of the Eastern Region of the Navajo Reservation - Stories that have been passed down from grandfathers to sons and from great-grandmothers to their children's children.

WHO'S WHO IN ARIZONA, by Jo Conners, published in 1913.This online searchable book may be browsed and/or downloaded in various formats (at no cost), saved to your device and kept as a reference. There is a section on Navajo County on page 95 and the county is mentioned in other areas of the book as well.

Dates of available issues are listed next to each newspaper and may be browsed online and/or downloaded and saved, all from the comfort of your home. If you know the name of the newspaper, you might also try searching Google Newspaper Archives. You never know what you might find! Other newspapers listed with an asterisk (*) can be found through various paid subscription services. You can visit each site to find out if they have newspapers in the geographical area you are looking and sign up for a free trial, anywhere from 7-14 days.
