Will of William B. TAYLOR

July 22nd 1840

In the name of God Amen. I William B Taylor of the County of Mecklenburg and State of Virginia, being in a low state of health, but of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows.

Item First - I give unto my beloved wife Rebecca J. Taylor one Feather bed and furniture 8 plates, 1 dish, ½ doz. knives and forks, one pot, one oven, 1 pine chest and trunk, one sow and 3 shoats.

Item 2nd -.I will that my land be rented out until a sufficiency of money is obtained to pay all my just debts.

Item 3rd - I loan unto my beloved wife all my land (after my just debts are paid) during her life and after her death to go to my youngest brother Jesse Taylor in the Western Country.

Item 4th - I will that all the remainder of my property be sold to the highest bidder to pay my just debts.

Item 5th - I wish all the debts due me collected as soon as possible and pay over to my creditors. I want my wife to remain on the land though it be rented out, so long as she lives. I also will that she have 4 lbs of corn.

I appoint Thomas Wartman, Executor to this my last will and testament. Given under my hand this day and date above mentioned.

At a court held for Mecklenburg County at the Court house thereof on the 16th day of Novem 1840 The foregoing last will and testament of William B Taylor dec. was this day produced into court and proved by the oaths of John P Harper and Wm G Rook two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and Thomas Wartman the Exor therein named referring to take upon himself the burden of the execution thereof on motion of Benjma W Walker who made oath thereto and together with Mathew Williams and John P Harper his securities entered into and acknowledged this bond in the penalty of $500: - conditioned according to law certificate is granted him for obtaining letter of administration with the aforesaid will annexed in due form.
