Will of Mary NORMENT

Dated Dec. 31, 1817; Proved Sept 15, 1823

In the name of God Amen I, Mary Norment of the county of Mecklenburg and state of Virginia being in common health of body and sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the same and not knowing how soon I may be called of the stage of action do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following

Imprimis, as I have already given to my two sons Thomas Norment & James Norment and my two daughters Jane Ealam, and Joannah Puryear, to each of them that portion of my estate which I have allowed I shall leave them no part of my estate which I may possess at my death.

Item. I lend to my grandson Giles Puryear one Negro girl Malvina during the life time of his mother Joanna Puryear and at her death it is my will and desire that the said Negro girl Malvina and her future increase be sold and the proceeds thereof to be equally divided between all the children of the said Susanna

all the rest of my estate of which I may die possessed It is my will and desire shall be equally divided between my six children namely Elizabeth Johns, Mary Brame, Frances Hughs, Susannah Puryear, William C. Norment, and Nancy Smith which I give to them and each of them and their heirs forever.

Lastly I do hereby appoint my son Thomas Norment and my trusty friend Robert Smith, executors of this my last will and testament.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and waxed seal the thirty first day of December one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

At a court held for Mecklenburg County this 15th day of September 1823.

The within written last will and testament of Nary Norment decd. was exhibited in Court proved by two witnesses and ordered to be recorded and Thomas Norment one of the Executors therein named came into court and renounced the burden of the execution of Said will.

At another court held for the said county the 26th or 28th day of October 1823.

On the motion of John F. Finch who made Oath according to said certificate is granted him for obtaining letter of administration of the estate of the said Mary Norment decd. with the will annexed tohereafore with John B Smith, Robert __ Gregory & Elijah Gregory his securities as entered into and acknowledged their bond with penalty of three thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs
