In the Name of God Amen. I James Hamner of Mecklenburg County being afflicted with sickness but of a sound and deposing mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make and ordain this my last will and testament revoking all other wills. I do recommend my soul to God whence I received it humbly trusting for the full pardon of all my sins. Through Jesus Christ my Blessed Saviour and also what worldly goods and estate it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me. I lend give and bequeath as followeth –

I lend unto my well beloved wife Sarah Hamner my whole estate after paying my just debts during her life and after her death I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law John Calthorp and also my son-in-law Isaac Pulley and to their heirs five pounds sterling each of them.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Toone forty five pounds current money to her and her heirs forever.
I give and bequeath unto my son John Hamner forty five pounds current money to him and his heirs forever.
I give and bequeath unto my son George Hamner forty five pounds current money to him and his heirs forever.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Burton forty five pounds to her and her heirs forever that is current money after the death of my beloved wife and the above-mentioned legacies are paid of(f?) If there should be any more of my estate it is my will and desire it may be divided among my five children to wit: my son Henry Hamner, John Hamner, George Hamner, Elizabeth Toone, Rebecca Burton except it be my land land (sic)
It is my will and desire that of the money arising therefrom may be divided among my three sons only to wit: Henry Hamner, John Hamner, and George Hamner. I leave and appoint my son (sic) Henry Hamner and John Hamner and George Baskervill Hamner my Executors to this my last will and testament in witness whereunto I have set my hand and fixed my seal.

At a Court held for Mecklenburg County on the 14th day of January 1795. This will was proved by the oaths of Thomas Norville and James Ferrell witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Henry Hamner and John Hamner two of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto and together with Thomas Norville and James Ferrell their securities… 1000 pounds conditional …
