1820 Lee Hall - Land History

Noted in the 1820 Lunenburg County land tax list as a new house valued at $1000, the historic home of the Henderson Lee family, Lee Hall, was removed from its original site on Crooked Creek in Lunenburg County shortly after the beginning of the 21st century. The land history of this site began in 1751 with a patent of 2000 acres to John Edloe the younger.

A letter written by Mary "Stokes" Gregory Nov 24, 1859 to her brother mentions this transaction: "Uncle Daniel Gunn has bought Jno. Hardy's land and Ashley his, so Aunt Tabby [nee Lee & wife of Daniel Gunn/jgs] and Cousin Pattie [wife of Ashley Robertson/jgs] are both bettered so far as houses are concerned.  So many changes will take place before your return that you'll hardly know how to 'navigate.'"  [Gregory Family Correspondence, 1829-1888 ; and, Josephus Gregory Travel Diary, 1848-1849, Lunenburg County, Virginia, p.98 : J.
