George Raymer returned last Friday from Jennings, Kan, where he had been called on account of the death of his sister, Mrs F A Boulls, who died on the 15th of this month. Mrs Boullis was in a hospital at Lincoln when she died, having recently underwent an operation. She was taken to her home in Kan for burial which was made on Tuesday, Nov 19. Mrs Boulls was well known in Atkinson having been a former resident of this place, About 22 years ago with her husband she went to Kan.
In death she leaves her husband and 5 children: to mourn her loss besides her four brothers, Dan and Chas Raymer of Lincoln, Israel Raymer of Burtville, Penn, and George of Atkinson. A host of friends and old neighbors will sincerely mourn that she is gone.

CHILD BURN TO DEATH
Jan 1st, the 3 year old girl, Agnes, daughter of Mr and Mrs Patrick Boyle met with a very painful and serious accident.
While the parents were out of the room the little one played with matches. She lighted a lamp which exploded and caught her clothing afire. Before help could be had the poor little one was completely enveloped in one mass of flames, completely burning her hair, face, arms, body and legs.
Dr Oxford was called to attend the little one, but he gave the parents no hope for the girl's recovery. After having been made easy and lingering for a few hours, the little one died of the shock following burns of so gross a nature.
The body was placed at rest in the Catholic Cemetery at Deloit.

KILLED BY NEIGHBOR
Neligh, Nebr, Oct 7 -- A G Rakow, a prominent and prosperous farmer living 10 miles northeast of Neligh, was shot and instantly killed by a neighbor, F M Thornburg, at Rakows farm at 10 this morning.
Trouble over hay is said to have caused the tragedy. There had been ill feeling between the two men for some time. Last Saturday Rakow was in town and told a business man that he "Couldn't tell what might happen."
Sheriff Miller, County Attorney Rice and Dr Chamberlain left for the scene of the tragedy shortly after a telephone message had been received.
The killing was done with a revolver.
The dead man owned three sections of land. He is survived by a widow and a large family of children. He is about 50 years old. -- Norfolk News.

IS KILLED BY A TRAIN
Charles C Redman, a barber living at St Edwards, Nebr, was killed on the first section of passenger train No 5 on the Northwestern Wednesday night near the stock yards. He had ridden from Oakdale on the pilot of the engine in company with James mcKelvie, a harness maker of St Edwards. Redman fell from the engine pilot and was ground beneath the car wheels. The head was severed from the trunk, arms and legs torn to pieces, and only an unrecognizable mass of human flesh and bone and blood was left to tell the tale.
A brakeman saw the cars pass over him and flagged the engineer who stopped the train as soon as possible. Policemen were called and the bits of human flesh were gathered up and taken to the Biglin Undertaking rooms, where the undertakers worked the balance of the night and much of the next day getting the remains ready for burial. The man's parents who reside at or near St Edwards, were notified and sent word back to ship the remains to that place, which was done Friday.
Coroner Wilson empaneled a jury Thursday morning and held an inquest which continued for about six hours. McKelvy, who was with Redman when he fell from the engine, was the principal witness examined. The jury found death to have been accidental.
Redman was 32 years old and unmarried.

Amid the joys of Christmas ?ness to us able ? Dec 30th, ?respected friend and neighbor, Mr Sheldon Remington, had ? from this earth to his eternal rest. Mr Remington had long been a sufferer from heart trouble and when the angel of death ssemed to hover near, those who were near and dear to him, were called to his bedside, but all that medical skill, loving hearts and tender hands could do, could not stay the hand of death. He bore his suffering with great patience and fortitued and when, his suffering seemed to be the greatest, he spoke these words, "His Will, Not Mine", which will long be a comfort to those who areleft to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.
Mr Remington was a man of splendid personal qualities and his kindly ways and pleasant smile won many friends who will feel a personal loss in his death.
The deceased was born in the year 1848, in Mahaska Co, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, In 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Elmira Dunn Tandy... To this union were given 9 children, 2 having preceded their father to the better world.
In 1883 Mr Remington moved with his family to Nebraska, where he has since made his home, the last two years being spent in Chambers and vicinity.
The deceased is survived by his wife and 7 childrne, Mrs L W Lewis of Kearney, Mrs Chas Essley of Maxwell, Nebr, Mrs O E Gentry of Proctor, Colorado, Mrs W Headlee of Chambers, F O Remington of Silver Creek, Nebr, Chas E and F C Remington of Amelia. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren: and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Friday at Methodist Church Rev Ruttlage, of Amelia officiating, assisted by Rev Fisher of Amelia, Rev Dysart and Rev Truscott of Chambers. The body was shipped to Kearney where funeral services were again held Sunday and the remains laid to rest in Kearney Cemetery.

FRED RICHTER PASSES AWAY
Fred Richter, one of the pioneer and well known citizens of this county, died at a hospital in Omaha last Monday evening, after a very short illness of cancer of the stomach, at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 9 days. The remains were brought to this city last Tuesday evening and taken to his home near Opportunity and the funeral will be held this afternoon, interment in Scottville Cemetery.
Deceased was born in Germany on March 16,1851. He was united in marriage there to Miss Minnie Dockhorn and remained there for several years after his marriage. He came with his family to the US in 1883 and settled at Sharon, Wis, where he remained for 3 years and then came to this county in the fall of 1886. On his arrival in the county he took a homestead northeast of this city, upon which he resided up to the time of his death. He always had great faith in the future of the county and although he was compelled to leave here in 1895 and he spent that year and the two following in Platte County, he returned to Holt County in the fall of 1897 and made his home here up to the time of his death.
Mr Richter was the father of 14 children, 6 of whom with his wife are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving father. The children: are: Fred, Charles, Ernest Richter, Mrs Joseph Schollmeyer, Mrs Ralph Chase, and Mrs Ray Chase, all of whom are residents of this county and were present at the funeral of their beloved father.
Mr Richter was a man with a rugged constitution and had always enjoyed the best of health until last April when he was seized with a severe attack of the grip. He never fully recovered from that attack and while able to be up and around attending to his usual duties he lacked the vigor and strength that he formerly enjoyed. On July 18 he went to Omaha to consult specialists, being accompanied by his son Fred. Physicians there did not think his condition was serious and his son returned home the middle of the week. Ernest intended going to Omaha Sunday and calling the hospital he was informed that Mr Richter was doing nicely and he postponed going down. A change was noticed in his condition Saturday morning and his folks here were called by phone and Mrs Richter and her three sons left at noon for Omaha, driving to Columbus and catching a train there reaching Omaha Sunday Morning, but he had passed away the night before.
Mr Richter was one of the substational citizens of the county and by hard work and thrift had become financially independent. He was a thorough farmer and at each meeting of the Holt County fair could always be depended upon to secure a large share of the premiums offered for grain and livestock exhibits. His passing will be deplored by a large number of friends in this city and county.

TRIBUTE FROM ONE WHO LOVED HER
Sarah Bartley Rinker after a painful illness departed this life, Feb 8,1896 in Sheldon, Ill. She was born in Hanover, Jefferson Co, Ind, in 1849. To say this one was loved, and will be missed by a loving father, a tender and kind mother, heart broken sisters and brothers would fail to express the loss, for many are the hearts that ache at the sad, sad tidings.
Sister Sarah Rinker is dead - much might be written of this dear one's saintly life, her utter unselfishness, and devotion to loved ones. She was by nature charitable, merciful and kind, but oh, grace had done much to round out her character, for above all things it was her desire to be worthy to be called "A child of a King" even Jesus, who of us is not bettered by her saintly life, by her wonderful spiritual prayers bearing souls that she yearned to save into the presence of the King. Nothing could exceed the touching simplicity, the childlike earnestness of her prayers, enriched with the language of Scripture, which seemed so entirely to have wrought itself into her very being, as to have become a part of herself, and to drop from her life unconscioulsy inspiring and elevating those who listened until the most reckless would not dare say, "There is no God", Oh! My sister thou dost not need the aid of lettered stone or tongue, or pen to keep thy memory bright. Though to us thou art removed from sight, our hearts shall own thy faithfulness, thy feet were ever prone to walk the way of truth while faith, not sight led calmly on. Willingly thou didst go to meet thy Lord, yet not alone, the garnered sheaves of many years, thine alms and work o love, thy humble service which on earth received no need. All these whall speak of thee above, let us not murmer when God takes the best, He loved her much and took her home to rest.
Sister Rinker leaves 5 children, father and mother, 2 sisters, 3 brothers to mourn her loss. May God in his infinite mercy and wisdom guide and sustain these bereft ones, for she dies not alone. If death means change, thenlfie is so mcuh changed to the mourner that they may be said to have died in part, for that which constituted a great part of life is gone. No more is life the same. Both in our joy and in our sorrow it is unike what it was before. The day has lost half its brightness. When we feel that the eyes which has looked with our own so many years, will not open to it's beauty, and when in our grief we know that the heart which has shared in all our many sorrows beats no more we start bewildered, as if waking from a dream, and feel that we are strangers and pilgrims on the earth, life cannot be to us the same. Not alone, they who died, those who are left behind have in part tasted death also. Let each of us that remain think of the words she lived by, "What will it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul."

KILLED BY LIGHTNING
This Thursday morning as he was driving the cattle out onto the range at his father's ranch on the Sandy about 16 miles north west of here, James Robinson and the pony which he rode, were struck by lightning, and instantly killed. His father, who lives here, but was at the ranch at the time, did not find his son until nearly noon. Undertaker Coats of Stuart, was sent for and prepared the body for burial, and it was bro't home Thursday night. A short funeral service will be held at the house in the morning and remains will be shipped to the old Sac county home for burial. The death of James Robinson and the manner in which he met it cast quite a gloom over the entire community where he was well known and had a host of friends. We join the many friends of the grief stricken family in extending sympathy to them in their great bereavement.

FATAL FIGHT IN PENITENTIARY
Deer Lodge -- Warden Frank Conley of the Montana State penitentiary was dangerously wounded and his first assistant warden, John Robinson, killed when three life convicts, George Rock, W H Hayes, and another whose name is not given, made a dash for liberty, Robinson's throad was cut from ear to ear and the jugular vein was severed. Conley's throat was gashed and he was stabbed several times in the shoulder and groin before he was able to draw his revolver and shoot the assaliants.

Orlo Francis Root, only child of James and Ethel Mae Root, was born Feb 22,1907 and died March 29,1908, being one year, one month and one week old. Pneumonia was the cause of the little one's death, both lungs being so badly affected that it could not recover. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church in Stuart, Monday afternoon, Rev Light conducting the service. The child was buried in the Stuart Cemetery.

Edwin Ross, died at Valentine, last Sunday and the remains were brought to O'Neill Tuesday and were taken to Blackbird where funeral services were held in Marquette Chapel and burial was made in the cemetery nearby. The services were conducted by Rev George Bressier of O'Neill.
Edwin Ross was born in Boone Co, Iowa, and was 52 years, 8 months and 4 days old at the time of his death.
The deceased spent about 16 years as a resident of the northeastern part of the county, moving away about 8 years ago.
He leaves a wife, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Lorenza Ross, one of the pioneers of this county died in the insane asylum at Norfolk last Wednesday, the remains being brought to the city Thursday night and interred in the Protestant Cemetery, Friday. Mr Ross was about 82 years of age and had been an inmate of the insane asylum about 5 years. His son, Colmer Ross of Spencer and Mrs Twyford of Walthill were in attendance at the funeral.

Injuries he received when he was struck in the abdomen by a singletree caused the death one hour later, Saturday, of Hershel Rouse, 16 year old son of Mr and Mrs George Rouse,of Redbird, near here.
The boy was driving a team hitched to a stacker when the singletree broke and struck him in the abdomen. He was rushed to a hospital in Lynch and an operation was performed immediatley, but failed to save his life.
Funeral services will be held at the home at Redbird today.

ONE OF HOLT COUNTY'S MOST RESPECTED CITIZEN PASSED AWAY
ANOTHER OLD SOLDIER ANSWERS THE ROLL CALL
Levy P Roy, was born in Shelbyville, Ill,on the lst day of March 1836, and was married June 17,1855 to Miss Fannie Jeffers at Troy, MO, where he resided until 1857. He then moved to Kirksville, MO where he lived until 1880, when he moved to Holt County, Nebr, near Scottville. In the year 1886 he moved to southern known as Dry Creek Valley, their present home. There were born to them 11 children, 2 girls and 9 boys, of whom 8 are still living. The deceased went to O'Neill on Sat, Nov 21st and was feeling much better than he had been for some time, and returned in the evening.
On Sabbath morning, he ate a hearty breakfast, after which he walked out into the yard, came in and remarked to his wife that he would read awhile and then answer some letters. He seated himself in a chair, took up the paper to read, while thus occupied death came and claimed him as his victim.
There had been no indication that his end was so near. His loving wife, who was in the room at the time, chanced to look in the direction of her husband and noticing his ghastly appearance, hastened to his side only to find the lifeless form of her loving companion. He was Converted and joined the M E Church in the year 1857 at Kirksville, MO. His wife joining at the same time, and they have lived faithful Christian lives ever since, ever looking forward to a better and brighter home with their Redeemer. The deceased enlisted at Kirksville, MO ont he 16th day of Aug 1861 in Co H 7th Cavalry, and was discharged at Little Rock, Ark, Sept 21st, 1865, at the close of the war. He joined the GAR post at Dorsey, Nebr, and later was transferred to Mark Goodham Post GAR at Chambers, Nebr, where he was an honored member at the time of his death, which occurred on the 22nd day of Nov, 1896.
The deceased soldier, was ever loyal to the flag of his country, whether in time of war or in peace. He was a devoted husband, a kind and affectionate father and in every sense of the word a good neighbor. His home was at all times open for the entertainment of those who might chance to pass that way, and many a hungry and weary stranger will testify to the hospitality of that home. His sudden death has cast a gloom over the community as far as the departed one was known. Mark Goodham Post has received a severe shock. No more will that honored name be called and responded to as in days of yore. The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the GAR post on Tues, Nov 24th. Rev H G Kemp preaced the funeral sermon taking for his text Matthew 25:23 after which his body was laid to rest in the Chambers Cem with GAR honors. A large concourse of friends and neighbors followed the remains to their last resting place and mingled their tears with the grief stricken family. The business houses in town and the public schools were closed during the services in memory of the honored dead. The deceased leaves a loving wife and 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters, to mourn their sad bereavemetn. We can scarcely find language in which to express our symapthy for the grief stricken ones. They have the assurance that their loved one has gone where the ?cease from trobling, and the weary are forever at rest. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

Peter Ryan went down to Sioux City the first of the week, being called there by the serious illness of his brother, John.
A message was received from Mr Ryan yesterday that his brother died that afternoon and the body would be brought to this city for interment. The body will reach here on the Burlington tonight and the funeral will be held tomorrow morning.
