Mrs Levi Gamet, wife of the pastor of the Latter Day Saints Church at Inman, passed away at her home in Inman Monday night, after an illness of several months. She was 77 years old.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church this morning, conducted by Elder Chas Soderstein of Clearwater and interment made in Inman Cemetery.

Catherine Newton was born in Dimock, Susquehanna County, Penn, April 25,1841 and departed this life at his home in Gordon, Nebr, Jan 1,1914, aged 72 years, 8 months and 6 days, after an illness of one week.
When 14 years old she was converted and united with the M E Church at Springville, Penn, thus early in life laying the foundation for the beautiful christian life that gew and developed into the perfect type of womanhood and motherhood that made her a blessing to her family and to all who know her.
In her early life she was a public school teacher and taught in the public schools of her native state until she was married, May 25,1863 to Lieut Theodore P Mills, at Dimock, Penn. To this union two sons were born, WL and TP Mills, both residents of Gordon. Theodore P Mills died May 2,1865 from disease contracted in the army, leaving his young wife and two baby boys to realize the sorrows caused by the Civil War.
On Oct 24, 1868 she was united in marriage to Charles S Gates at Springville, Penn. To this union were born two daughters and a son, Mrs Bertha E Fullerton of Atkinson, Nebr, and Mrs Velma O Pfeiffer and Newton S Gates, both of whom reside at Gordon.
With her husband and family she came to Nebraska in the spring of 1884 and settled upon a homestead near Atkinson, where they resided for 16 years, braving the vicissitudes of pioneer life with all its hardships and privations, together with its joys, hopes, anticipations and fond realizations. In the spring of 1900, she and her husband moved to Gordon where four of her children reside and where she lived until God called her to her heavenly home on New Years Day 1914.
On Christmas morning she was taken sick with pleuro pneumonia and gew worse day by day until her death. Realizing that she must soon leave her loved ones she called them to her side and gave them her parting admonition and blessing, asuring them that the Lord was with her and that she was ready to meet her Savior and urging them to be as true to Christ as they had been to her. At her bedside when the heavenly messenger came were her loving husband and all the children, several grandchildren, her niece, Mrs R E Chittick of Stuart, Nebr, and a nephew John N Sturdevant of Spencer, Nebr,
The funeral was held from the M E Church at 2 pm Saturday, conducted by pastor Rev O E Richardson, assisted by visiting pastors as follows; Rev C E Calame of Gordon, Rev Benj Kuhler of Ainsworth, Rev J C Dillon of Chadron, Rev G W Gregory of Rushville. Interment was made in the Gordon Cemetery, her sons acting as pall bearers.
Mother Gates was a most devoted and consecrated Christian worker, manifesting a deep interest in every department of church work. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corps, the W C T U and W F M S, always present unless prevented by sickness, at all the church services, prayer meetings and SS.
Her home life was ideal and her home was the center for religious meetings, official and otherwise. It was in her home that the Northwest Nebraska Campmeeting Association was born and christiened on Christmas Day 1912, and Mother Gates was the maternal ancestor of this organization. Her life has been a benediction and inspiration to all who knew her.
She will be sadly missed in the church and community and there is a vacancy in the home that can never be filled on this earth but there is a precept and example left for the loved ones which if followed will lead to a grand reunion over there, where there is no pain, or death or separation. There are sorrow and tears in the earthly home at the vacant chair, but there is comfort in the assurrance that Mother has just crossed over to the other side and is beckoning loved ones. What a life! What a death! What a victory! Tears and sympathy for the bereft seem needless. They have comfort and assurance from One whose promises never fail. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.
We believe in the maxim, Flowers for the dead and merited praise for the living, and what has been said in honor of Mother Gates applies with equal force to the life and character of Father Gates who is left to mourn for a few days, but not as one who is without hope, for soon he too will cross over and there will be a heavenly reunion of father and mother- husband and wife. What a heritage for children the memory of such a father and mother. What an inspiration for others to lead the simple Christ life. Therein is true greatness and compliance with the will of the Father.

The remains of George Gaughenbaugh arrived here last Sunday night from Omaha where he passed away at St Catherine's Hospital on Saturday. About five weeks ago Mr Gaughenbaugh was injured in an auto accident at Harlan, Iowa, where he received a fractured knee cap and minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital in Omaha for treatment where he has been confined since that time.
George Gaughenbaugh, son of Moses and Malsenia Gaughenbaugh, was born at Centerville, Iowa, November 24,1871 and died in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, August 28,1926, aged 54 years 10 months and 4 days. He lived with his parents at Centerville until he was about 12 years old, when in the year, 1884 the family moved to Holt County, Nebraska.
In the year 1895 he was married to Miss Barbara Greebe, who died about 3 years later. Two children were born, one dying in infancy and the other, Bryon, died when he was about 17 years of age.
A few years later he was married to Miss Bessie Jacobs. Their four boys and one girl are still living.
He is survived by his aged mother, now over 90 years of age, his widow and children Donald, Mrs E O Clinkenbeard, James, Frank, and John, and his four brothers, Isaac of Centerville, Iowa; John and James of Emmet and Clark of Atkinson.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2;30 in the Methodist Church of this city, conducted by RevWinship and Rev J A Hutchins of this city. The remains were laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Miss Malcenia, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Gaughenbaugh, died at her home about 10 miles southwest of O'Neill last Monday morning following an illness of influenza that developed into pneumonia.
She was born May 28,1901 and was 23 years, 10 months and 7 days of age.
She leaves a father, mother, two sisters and one brother, to mourn her early departure.
The funeral services were held from the Catholic Church at Emmet, conducted by Father Byrne Wednesday morning. Burial was made in Calvary Cemetery at O'Neill.

Malsenia Jones was born in Macon Co, Missouri, Dec 22,1832, passed away at the home of her son, James, south of Emmet, Sept 30,1926
When she was 10 years old she moved with her parents to Appanoosa Co, Iowa, being among the first to settle in that country. She was living in Iowa when the Mormons went through on their way to Salt Lake City.
In March 1859, she was married to Moses Gaughenbaugh. She was the mother of 7 boys; Fordice who died in 1882; Curtis who died in 1909; George who passed away Aug 28,1926; Those living are Isaac of Centerville, Iowa; John of Emmet; Clark of Atkinson; James of Emmet.
In 1863 her husband enlisted as a soldier in the Union army and served for 18 months, leaving her with four small children to care for.
She joined the Methodist Church in 1866 and lived a cosntant Christian life with great faith for the future life.
In 1884 she moved with her husband and family to Holt County, where she lived until her death, Sept 30,1926, at the age of 93 years 9 month 8 days.
Her husband passed away July 17,1903.
She was ever moving with the frontier helping to settle and establish a new community.
She leaves to mourn her death, four sons, and one brother, Austin Jones of Rathbun, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Emmet, on Saturday, Oct 2nd at ten o'clock and the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in Prospect Hill cemetery at O'Neill.

Mrs Malsenia Gaughenbaugh died at the home of her son, James, south of Emmet, about 2:30 o'clock this morning at the age of almost ninety four years. she was born Dec 22,1832. She was ill for the past 3 or 4 weeks.
Mrs Gaughenbaugh was one of the early settlers of the county.

BRIEF OBITUARIES OF THOSE WHO HAVE ENDED EARTH'S PILGRIMAGE
The grim reaper has cut down two of our venerable pioneers and much esteemed citizens, and the bodies of Moses Gaughenbaugh and William C Alley now repose in the cemetery on the hill. After 6 months of patient suffering Mr Gaughenbaugh passed away on Friday, July 17, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 15 days, the funeral services being held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev Amos Fetzer of the Methodist Church, who spoke comforting words with Revelation 14:13 for a text: Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. Interment was made in the Prostant Cemetery. Friends of the deceased supply the obituary.
Moses Gaughenbaugh was born near Uniontown, Fiatt Co, Penn, on June 2,1825, where he resided until 1846. From there he went to Zanesville, Gurnsey Co, Ohio, where he remained ten years and then moved to Centerville, Appanoose Co, Iowa, in 1856, where he was married to Malcina Jones in 1859. He was the father of ten children, six of whom are living and four dead. With his wife and family he came to Nebraska in 1884, where he has since made his home. He has been a member of the Methodist Cpiscopal church for the past forty years.
He enlisted in co 1 36th Iowa infantry with volunteers.

DEATH OCCURRED AT HOME IN ATKINSON, NEBR, AND REMAINS BRO'T HERE FOR BURIAL - WAS A NOBLE AND VERY POPULAR YOUNG MAN

Robert Frantz Gerlaw, son of Frank and Jessie Gerlaw, was born near Auburn, April 27,1893. With his parents he moved into town in 1907, and entered Auburn High School, from which he graduated in 1911. It was in the same year that he began his high school studies that he united with the Avenue M E Church of this city. After graduation from high school he attended for one year the Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan. Then he spent 2 years in the U of Nebr, as a student in the law school. Here he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity adn took an enthusiastic part in athletics. For a year he engaged in independent farming and then finding himself much interested in agriculture, he took up the management of a cattle ranch in Holt County near Atkinson, where he was thoroughly interested and quite successful, being a great lover of livestock. It was his special hobby to see that the windmill was in good working order so as to provide plenty of water for the cattle.
It was during his school days that he became acquainted with Miss Theodocia Hopkins, youngest daughter of G W Hopkins. For several years it was his custom to carry her books to and from school and more and more their lives grew together. Their mutual fondness for music made them congenial and it was her custom to play his accompaniaments for singing. It was on April 18,1917, that they were united in marriage, the ceremony having been conducted by Rev Arthur E Perry of Nebraska City, a long time friend of the bride's family.
After the marriage they went immediately to Atkinson to make their home near the ranch before mentioned that they continued to operate. After settling there for their home, Mr Gerlaw took his certificate from the Avenue M E Church and Mrs Gewlaw from the First Presbyterian Church of Auburn and together they united with the First Presbyterian Church of Atkinson.
The epidemic of Spanish influenza claimed Robert for a victim. His illness began on Oct 29, but he did not give up to it until the following evening. The influenza went into pneumonia but this yielded to treatment. Then complications of Bright's Disease began and it was this that brought the untimely end. The best medical aid in the region was called in, and the services of a registered nurse obtained. Everything humanly possible was done but could not avail. It was during the afternoon of Monday, Nov 11, that he closed his eyes in the last sleep.
During his illness he was patient, and uncomplaining, and during most of the time entirely rational. Sunday morning he said to his wife, "let us sing" 'Over There'". Then with a clear and steady voice, every word in tune and time, he sang "The Sweet Bye and Bye" his wife bravely singing with him. He felt that God was calling him home, and he said, "Isn't it fine, Only it is too bad to leave you alone, Theo."
Brief services were conducted by the Rev M D Berg, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Atkinson, before the remains were removed.
To all who knew him he was "Bob". There was a fineness and a genialness of nature about him that captivated everyone. The merry twinkle of his eye, the kindliness of his voice, and manner, together with his unselfish thoughfulness toward others, made all who knew him, his friend. He was highly esteemed by his brothers in the Masonic Lodge No 124, who meet today to do him the last sad honor they can give as a fraternal body.
Hail to this bright and beautiful soul, so true and strong and good. Praise to God that his friendly kindly nature may still find friends over in that morning land; that his voice is not stilled but now may sing glad songs he could never know on earth; that his brave, vigorous spirit may still achieve and strive and succeed. Thanks be to God that tho our hearts ache without him here, he will be looking this way, and waiting, waiting for you.
Both families wish to thank the friends of Atkinson and of Auburn for their kind solicitude, for the beautiful floral offerings and other tokens of sympathy which they have given.
The funeral was held here from the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Frank Gerlaw on Wednesday afternoon and a large number of friends gathered, but owing to the Board of Health regulations they remained on the lawn while the services were conducted by Rev A E Perry of Nebraska City. At the conclusion of the services the remains were borne to Sheridan Cemetery where the services at the grave were conducted by the Masonic Order. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of S M Bixby, S W Eustice, H A Yost, and R E Cunningham and the hymns sung were "Pass Me Not", "Oh Gentle Savior", "No Night There", "The Sweet Bye and Bye".

BOY KILLED BY LIGHTNING
Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock, John, the 15 year old son of Conrad Gokee, of Clearwater who was fishing near that town, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. A younger brother, who was with him was also badly burned, but it is thought that he will recover.

Mrs Louisa M Goree, for many years a resident of Inman, died in a Norfolk hospital Wednesday following an accident which she suffered on Wednesday of last week.
The Inman Leader of last week tells of the accident as follows:
Word comes from Norfolk Wednesday that Grandma Goree was badly injured that morning as a result of being knocked down by an automobile. The report says that Mrs Goree was at the home of her daughter, Mrs Perry, and had just left the Perry house apparently to go to her home, but changed her mind and started back just in time to be struck by a car being driven out of the garage at the Perry home. Whiel the injuries are not thought serious she suffered a bad flesh wound on her leg. She was taken to the hospital where it is thought she will recover.
The deceased leaves four daughters and one son, Mrs Ella Caluson of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs Anna Swain of Rapid City, SD; Mrs Nettie Dorby of Rapid City, SD; Mrs Della Perry of Norfolk; Will S Goree of Inman.
Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Church in Inman, Saturday. Rev Taylor will conduct the service.

Inman Leader - The infant baby girl of Mr and Mrs Sherman Grazier born Wednesday morning died Thursday morning at 3 o'clock. The funeral will probably be held Friday. Mrs Grazier has been here for the past couple of months with her parents, Mr and Mrs George Coventry. Mr Grazier who is working for the railroad company at Tipton, Missouri, is expected here tonight (Thursday) and the funeral arrangements will then be made. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family in the loss of their first baby.

DIES FROM PARALYSIS
A telegram to Peter Greeley from his daughter in law at their home at Ocheltree, Kan, Sunday, summoned him to the bedside of his son, Morton, seriously ill in St Joseph's Hospital, Omaha.
Mr Greeley at once responded to the call, Mrs Greeley at the same time leaving their farm home in Kansas, and together were with the son and husband a few hours before his death, which occurred Monday, the 28th inst.
For several years the deceased had poor health, and it has been but the last two hears that he had come to experience real well days with apparent assurance of good health restored and the passing of many more years in useful and profitable enjoyment in the midst of family and friends.
A paralytic stroke, affecting partially the left side, occurring three weeks prior to his death, was not considered alarming by his physician until two weeks later. He then was sent to the Omaha hospital.
Morton Youmans Greeley was born June 14,1878 at Mukwonago, Waukasha County, Wis and moved with his parents to Holt Co, Nebr, two years later and where he has lived practically all of his life.
On April 16,1902 he was married to Miss Kittie Price, who died three years later. May 27,1913 he was married to Miss Lillian Dahms, who, together with their two children, Helen and Warren, aged 3 years, survive him; also his parents, Mr and Mrs Peter Greeley; two brothers and two sisters, Warren Greeley and Mrs Bertha Brown of Seattle, Wash; Mrs Arlie Moore of Spokane, and Howard Greeley of Ashland, Nebr,
The remains were accompanied to Atkinson Tuesday evening. The funeral awaits the arrival of the brother. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elizabeth Ellen Park was born at Beraidotte, Fulton County, Illinois, Dec 1,1845 and died at Inman, Nebr, Jan 18,1924, being 78 years, 1 month and 17 days old at the time of her death. When a small child she moved with her parents to Sheffield, Ill, there she grew to womanhood. She was married to George W Green, OCt 18,1865 at Sheffield, Ill, where they lived for 19 years, moving the same year to Sabetha, Kan, where they lived for 4 years, coming to Inman, Nebr in the spring of 1888, where they have since resided.
Mrs Green became a member in early childhood of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and remained faithful of the same all her life, in the later years of her christian life she took much pleasure in the Bible and communion with her Savior. She certainly enjoyed her Christian experience.
To this union were born 8 children, 1 son dying in infancy, 7 who with the husband remain to mourn her loss. Those living are -- Mrs Wilson Bittner and Mrs Ed Clark of Inman; Mrs Grant Davis of Wayne; Edgar B of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Bert A of Colome, SD; Earl of Winner, SD; Walter of Wayne. There are 38 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church last Sunday. Rev AAHerber preaching the sermon and interment made in the Inman Cemetery.

DANIEL GREENFIELD KILLED WHEN CAR GOES OVER BLUFF
Daniel W Greenfield, a wealthy citizen of Scotia, was fatally injured when his car plunged down a steep bluff two miles north of town. He was never conscious after the accident. He was not found for 8 hours afterwards as the spot where the car lay was out of sight of the road. He survived 36 hours.
Mr Greenfield came to Greeley County in the early 70's and was well known in this part of the state. For many years he conducted the Old Commercial Hotel in Scotia and will be remembered by many old time traveling men, with whom he was very popular.
He was a Civil War Veteran, a member of the Famous Iron Brigade, was wounded at Gettysburg, and lay on the field unconscious for many hours. He was a man of iron will and powerful vitality. He leaves a widow, a son and daughter, R Greenfield of Scotia and Mrs Anna Crosby of Estes Park, Colorado. Mr Greenfield was 72 years of age - Omaha Bee of Sunday, May 16th

DEATH OF J D GRIMES
O'Neill Frontier -- J D Grimes, chairman of the county board and an old time resident of Chambers township, dropped dead in the yard at his home near Chambers last Sunday morning. Mr Grimes had a severe attack of heart trouble a couple of weeks ago and at that time his physician informed him that he was suffering from neuralgia of the heart, but he recovered from the attack and was feeling as good as ever the morning of his death. He attended a meeting of the county board here last week and while he said he was weak, otherwise felt all right. The funeral will be held next Friday morning from the family home at Chambers. Deceased was 61 years of age and leaves a wife, daughter and six sons to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband and a father. The county officers prepared the following resolution of condolence, which was signed by all the members of the county board and the county officials and sent to the stricken family.
"Whereas God is His infinite wisdom, has called home Hon J D Grimes, chairman of the county board of supervisors of Holt County, Nebraska, whereas, in his death the county has lost a faithful officer, who was fearless and equitable in the discharge of every duty, therefore be it.
"Resolved, that we the officers of Holt County, Nebr, in token of our esteem for Mr Grimes, extend to the grief stricken family our heartfelt sympathy, and while we cannot repair their loss we can and do in a measure share their sorrow.
