HOLT COUNTY OBITUARIES

You may submit your Holt County Obituaries for posting to this page. We can only post obituaries that are older than 1932, or where you have written permission from the newspaper to reprint/post them. You may submit an 'extract' for an obituary for current obituaries. Thank you for following these guidelines. Submit your obituaries to the State Coordinator.

"These are from the Rouse History that Mrs Riser and I compiled. She had a lot of the newsclippings cut out of the newspaper. That's why no name of the paper or date on some of these. She is currently in the O'Neill nursing Home." - Doris Counts

Although the obituaries listed here are from Holt County newspapers, the actual deaths and/or burials may have been in other counties or states.

Elwood, Mary Mack
Oct 11,1912, Atkinson Graphic

Mary Mack was born at Addison, NY, Oct 20,1822 and died at Atkinson, Nebr, Oct 2,1912, lacking only 18 days of being 90 years old.

At the age of 19 years she was married to Willard H Elwood with whom she lived 58 years, until death claimed him 14 years ago, since then living with her daughter, Mrs Dora Hobbs, until her decease. With her husband she moved to Edgar, Penn, where they lived for 19 years until Mr Elwood's death.

Two children: were born to them, one dying in infancy. In these later years, the daughter, Mrs Hobbs, has kindly, faithfully, tenderly and lovingly ministered to her wants with a daughter's affection.

Early in life Mrs Elwood joined the Methodist Church and together with her husband walked the course of life in Christian fellowship. Theres was an unusually pleasant life together. They seldom missed the church service and foudn the gospel of Christ greatly enhanced the joys of the wedded life and as well kept the heart in peace.

And when the journey of life must be taken up alone the deceased found her way to the house of God on Sunday, even after the mind and body had become too feeble to reckon other distances and recognize other places ; but for nearly two years past she was too feeble even for this beloved task. On Wednesday morning just as a new day was awakening to life, her soul left the feeble tenement of clay, and there dawned for her the new morning of the eternal day; and we trust through faith, there is the eternal mansion with loved ones gone before to shout her welcome home. She came to her coronation like unto a sheaf of grain fully ripe.
