Weeks of hard and earnest cultivation ... of whiskers . . . had its reward. To Frank M, Sabine went the honor and first prize of $25 for having grown the best crop of whiskers in the Hall County Whisker Club.
William Sassen was awarded second prize of $15; Lloyd Faidley third prize of $10; Irving Augustine fourth prise, a $5 Gillette razor; S. E. Mickleson, fifth, and W. H. Birk, sixth, each a $1 Gillette razor; and Floyd Scott seventh prize of $2.50.
Honorable mention and prizes of $1 each were awarded to Jack Lane, Harry Whitefoot, Leslie Liebhart, Ernest J. Harder, Albert Winrolph, E. W. Linneman, Gil Nielsen, Wm. Speetzen, George Williamson, John H. Jones,
Julius Peters, Paul Miller, Paul N. Kirk, J. D. Kikendall, C. W. Kremer, Thomas Dillon, W. C. Malone, Oscar Harris, B. M. Miller and L. A. Laughlin.
Ladies from Ravenna, St. Paul, Central City and Aurora, serving as judges, made their decisions early Tuesday morning, July 5. The competition was very keen, but the selection of prize winners seemed to meet with unanimous approval.
Donors of the prizes were: Mr. Joseph-son, Hotel Yancey, $50; R. E. Murphy, $5; Clayton's and Gillette Razor Co., three $1 razors; and Sinke Cigar Co,, boxed cigars.
