I'm looking for more info on my
mothers relatives from Florida. A Caroline Bird (born Oct 1852 in Live
Oak FL, married Charles Robinson, born Sept 1851). Caroline's father was
Archibold Bird -or-Byrd (born 1815 in Live Oak FL who married Margaret
something (nickname Miriah, born 1832). My grandfather is from
Pensacola, so I'm assuming that of the two "Live Oak, Florida"s, this
county seems the most likely. My mother's father believed (with some
conviction and recollections of stories) that he was related to Adm
Richard Byrd (as a distant cousin). Any suggestions or information would
be appreciated thanks.

I would like to contact anyone who is
a descendant or relative of my grandparents, George W. Strickland and
Vercie Hathaway. They were married in Vernon, Florida on March 8, 1906
and came to what is now Okaloosa County about 1915 and remained there
until their death. Both are buried in Almarante Cemetery, Laurel Hill,
FL. George W. Strickland was born on January 7, 1881 in SE Alabama near
Ozark (possibly Wicksburg, Alabama). I believe his father’s name was Eli
and mother’s name was Sophronia. George died July 26, 1948. Vercie
Hathaway was born June 22, 1884 in Chipley, FL and died October 25,
1956. She was orphaned at an early age and was reared by a cousin,
James(?) Newton. She had siblings Mary Lillian, born Oct. 5, 1888; Carey
Leroy, born Jan 30, 1892; William Dewey, born Sep 7, 1897. Carey Leroy
was legally adopted by the Newtons. Carey L. Newton lived in Crestview
and died at the age of 65 in 1957.

I'm searching for my
McDERMOTT ancestors. My grandfather, John or Johnnie McDERMOTT, states
that he was born in Washington Co., Florida, ca. 1874. His sister, Mary,
was also born in Florida, possibly Washington Co., ca. 1871. A third
sister, Ida, married a STANLEY/STANDLEY. John was adopted by Christian
GILLIS CAMPBELL, widow of John CAMPBELL. He is found living in her
household in the 1900 census of Walton Co. Mary was adopted by James
McLEON and Catherine GILLIS McLEAN. Mary is found in the 1880 census of
Walton Co., living in the McLEAN household. I do not know the given
names of my natural great grandparents, but am guessing that they may be
John McDERMOTT and Annie LEE McDERMOTT or possibly another Mary
McDERMOTT. Any help would be much appreciated.
