Notes on Some Confederate SoldiersPosted with permission from Vincent R. Bronson. Note: Mr. Bronson, for a number of years, has been working on a book about Osceola County's Confederate soldiers. The information below is just a part of the information which he has compiled. Confederate Soldiers buried in Osceola County were from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, and England. They are buried throughout the county. Allendale was named for Major J H Allen of Kentucky Campbell City was named for Alfred Sidney Campbell who was shot on Missionary Ridge. John Milton Bryan, a former Florida Sergeant, was legislatively, largely responsible for to formation of Osceola County in 1887. Col Jacob Aderhold and James Rosser Graves were two of Kissimmee's early mayors. W J Brack, Orlando's first mayor is buried in Mount Peace Cemetery. William Reynolds Johnston, from South Carolina, was Osceola's first judge. He named his son Osceola Johnston. Rev T J Bell was the first Baptist preacher in Kissimmee and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev Milton Clark, lost a leg at Spotsylvania. Alfred Iverson was a General, Greenleaf Andrews a Lt Col, Richard Singeltary a Lt Col, and Eliphalet Sharpe was a Capt. Richard Bass, Edmund Fennel, George Bronson, James Padgett, and Berry Sullivan were boy soldiers serving in the Home Guard and Cow Cavalry. Isaac Barber and Steward Tyner were captured at Gettysburg and imprisoned at Ft Delaware until the wars end. Charles Franklin, Robert Savage, William Slade, and John Tumblin survived the Pennsylvania campaign. After the surrender, James Hampton and Henry McLaughlin walked home. William Burrel Yates, who signed the Florida Ordinance of Secession, is buried in an unmarked grave in Crabgrass Cemetery. William H Brown is buried in a vacant field near Good Samaritan Village. Robert Barnwell Savage, a former POW, lies in an unmarked grave in Rose Hill Cemetery. John F Willis is buried deep in a sand scrub near Yeehaw Junction. Copyright © 2005: Vincent R.
